Pour une gélule de calibre n° 0 : rifabutine 150 mg.
Excipient : cellulose microcristalline, laurylsulfate de sodium, stéarate de magnésium, gel de
silice.
Composition de l'enveloppe de la gélule: gélatine, dioxyde de titane, oxyde de fer rouge.

(INDICATIONS THERAPEUTIQUES)
Ce médicament est préconisé dans la prévention et le traitement des infections à mycobactéries
aviaires ainsi que dans le traitement de la tuberculose pulmonaire multirésistante.
3. ATTENTION !
DANS QUELS CAS NE PAS UTILISER CE MEDICAMENT
(CONTRE-INDICATIONS)
Ce médicament NE DOIT PAS ETRE UTILISE dans les cas suivants :
- insuffisance rénale,
- allergie connue à ce médicament ou aux rifamycines,
- en association avec le saquinavir.
EN CAS DE DOUTE, IL EST INDISPENSABLE DE DEMANDER L'AVIS DE VOTRE MEDECIN
OU DE VOTRE PHARMACIEN.
MISES EN GARDE SPECIALES
Ce traitement ne peut être administré que sous SURVEILLANCE MEDICALE RIGOUREUSE.
Celle-ci comporte habituellement :
- un examen médical,
- des examens biologiques précisant notamment les paramètres hématologiques (numération
et formule sanguine) et ceux de la fonction hépatique et rénale.
PRECAUTIONS D'EMPLOI
Prévenir votre médecin en cas de maladie du foie au long cours sévère.
Prévenir votre médecin si vous ressentez des troubles de la vision, des douleurs oculaires,
ou si vous avez l'oeil rouge.
2. WHAT IS THIS MEDICINE USED FOR
(THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS)
This medicine is recommended in the prevention and treatment of Mycobacterium avium
infections as well as in the treatment of multi-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis.
3. WARNING!
WHEN NOT TO USE THIS MEDICINE
(CONTRA-INDICATIONS)
This medicine MUST NOT BE USED in the following cases:
- renal failure,
- known allergy to this medicine or to rifamycins,
- combined with saquinavir.
IF IN DOUBT, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO ASK YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST FOR ADVICE.
SPECIAL WARNINGS
This treatment can only be administered under STRICT MEDICAL MONITORING. This usually
includes:
- a medical examination,
- biological tests specifying in particular the haematological parameters (complete blood
count) and those of hepatic and renal function.
PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
Inform your doctor in case of severe long-term liver disease.
Inform your doctor if you feel vision disorders and ocular pains, or if you have a red eye.
IF IN DOUBT, DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST FOR ADVICE.

INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER MEDICINAL PRODUCTS AND OTHER INTERACTIONS
The concomitant use of an oral contraceptive is inadvisable (the efficacy may be diminished):
another contraceptive method must be envisaged.

L'utilisation concomitante d'un contraceptif par voie orale est déconseillée (l'efficacité peut

antiproteases and methadone, YOU MUST SYSTEMATICALLY INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR
PHARMACIST OF ANY OTHER CURRENT TREATMENT.

PREGNANCY – BREAST-FEEDING
In case of pregnancy, suspected pregnancy or breast-feeding, inform your doctor rapidly.

En cas de grossesse, de suspicion de grossesse ou d'allaitement, prévenir rapidement votre médecin.
D'UNE FAÇON GENERALE, IL CONVIENT AU COURS DE LA GROSSESSE OU DE

4. COMMENT UTILISER CE MEDICAMENT
POSOLOGIE
DANS TOUS LES CAS SE CONFORMER STRICTEMENT A L'ORDONNANCE DE VOTRE
MEDECIN.
- La prévention des mycobactérioses aviaires comporte habituellement la prise orale de 2
gélules une seule fois par jour.
- Le traitement des mycobactérioses aviaires comporte habituellement la prise orale de 3
à 4 gélules une seule fois par jour.
- Le traitement de la tuberculose multirésistante comporte habituellement la prise orale de
3 à 4 gélules une seule fois par jour.
MODE ET VOIE D'ADMINISTRATION
Voie orale.
Les gélules doivent être avalées entières avec un peu d'eau.
FREQUENCE ET MOMENT AUQUEL LE MEDICAMENT DOIT ETRE ADMINISTRE
La prise de médicament doit être journalière et continue.
Si vous devez interrompre ce traitement, prévenez votre médecin.
5. EFFETS NON SOUHAITES ET GENANTS
(EFFETS INDESIRABLES)
COMME TOUT PRODUIT ACTIF, CE MEDICAMENT PEUT, CHEZ CERTAINES PERSONNES,
ENTRAINER DES EFFETS PLUS OU MOINS GENANTS.
- des douleurs musculaires et articulaires,
- une éruption cutanée,
- une modification du goût,
- des troubles digestifs : nausées, vomissements,
- de la fièvre,
- une coloration rouge des urines, des selles et des larmes (avec risque de coloration des
lentilles de contact souples),
- des troubles oculaires à type de brûlures et de rougeur des yeux,
- des troubles visuels.
Ces troubles peuvent survenir même si le traitement a un effet favorable. Il faut les signaler
au médecin qui se charge de votre traitement.
SIGNALEZ A VOTRE MEDECIN OU A VOTRE PHARMACIEN TOUT EFFET NON SOUHAITE
ET GENANT QUI NE SERAIT PAS MENTIONNE DANS CETTE NOTICE.
6. CONSERVATION
- NE PAS DEPASSER LA DATE LIMITE D'UTILISATION FIGURANT SUR LE CONDITIONNEMENT
EXTERIEUR.

Ce médicament doit être conservé à une température inférieure à 25°C.

8. CONSEILS/EDUCATION SANITAIRE
Que savoir sur les antibiotiques ?
Les antibiotiques sont efficaces pour combattre les infections dues aux bactéries. Ils ne sont
pas efficaces contre les infections dues aux virus.
Aussi, votre médecin a choisi de vous prescrire cet antibiotique parce qu'il convient précisément
à votre cas et à votre maladie actuelle.
Les bactéries ont la capacité de survivre ou de se reproduire malgré l'action d'un antibiotique.
Ce phénomène est appelé résistance: il rend certains traitements antibiotiques inactifs.
La résistance s'accroît par l'usage abusif ou inapproprié des antibiotiques.
Vous risquez de favoriser l'apparition de bactéries résistantes et donc de retarder votre
guérison ou même de rendre inactif ce médicament, si vous ne respectez pas:
- la dose à prendre,
- les moments de prise,
- et la durée de traitement.
En conséquence, pour préserver l'efficacité de ce médicament :
1) N'utilisez un antibiotique que lorsque votre médecin vous l'a prescrit.
2) Respectez strictement votre ordonnance.
3) Ne réutilisez pas un antibiotique sans prescription médicale même si vous pensez combattre
une maladie apparemment semblable.
4) Ne donnez jamais votre antibiotique à une autre personne, il n'est peut-être pas adapté
à sa maladie.
5) Une fois votre traitement terminé, rapportez à votre pharmacien toutes les boîtes.

4.HOW TO USE THIS MEDICINE
POSOLOGY
ALWAYS USE EXACTLY AS INDICATED IN YOUR DOCTOR'S PRESCRIPTION.
- The prevention of Mycobacterium avium infections usually requires an oral administration
of 2 capsules once daily.
- The treatment of Mycobacterium avium infections usually requires an oral administration
of 3 to 4 capsules once daily.
- The treatment of multi-resistant tuberculosis usually requires an oral administration of 3
to 4 capsules once daily.
METHOD AND ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION
Oral route.
The capsules must be swallowed whole with some water.
FREQUENCY AND TIME WHEN THE MEDICINE SHOULD BE ADMINISTERED
The administration of the medicine must be daily and continuous.
If you must interrupt this treatment, inform your doctor.
5.UNDESIRABLE AND UNPLEASANT SIDE EFFECTS
(ADVERSE EFFECTS)
LIKE ANY ACTIVE PRODUCT, THIS MEDICINE MAY, IN SOME INDIVIDUALS, INDUCE A
RANGE OF UNPLEASANT SIDE EFFECTS.
- muscular and joint pains,
- skin rash,
- modification of taste,
- digestive disorders: nausea, vomiting,
- fever,
- red colour of urine, faeces and tears (with risk of colouring of soft contact lenses),
- ocular disorders such as burning and redness of eyes,
- visual disorders.
These disorders may appear even if the treatment has a favourable effect. They must be
reported to the doctor in charge of your treatment.
IN CASE OF OCCURRENCE OF ANY SIDE EFFECT NOT MENTIONED IN THIS LEAFLET DO
NOT HESITATE TO INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST.
6. STORAGE
- DO NOT EXCEED THE EXPIRY DATE CLEARLY MARKED ON THE OUTER PACKAGING.

8. HEALTH ADVICE/EDUCATION
What should you know about antibiotics?
Antibiotics are effective to treat infections caused by bacteria. They are ineffective against
viral infections.
Your doctor has decided to prescribe this antibiotic because it is particularly appropriate for
your case and current disease.
Bacteria have the ability to survive or multiply in spite of the action of an antibiotic. This
phenomenon is called resistance: it makes certain antibiotic treatments inactive. Resistance
increases with inappropriate use or misuse of antibiotics.
If you do not comply with the following your risk favouring the appearance of resistant
bacteria and therefore, delay your recovery or make this medicinal product inactive:
- dose to be taken,
- time of administration,
- and duration of treatment.
Therefore, in order to preserve the efficacy of this medicinal product:
1) Only use an antibiotic when your doctor prescribes it.
2) Strictly follow your prescription.
3) Do not reuse an antibiotic without medical prescription even if you believe you are fighting
an apparently similar disease.
4) Never give your antibiotic to another person; it may not be appropriate for his/her disease.
5) Once you finished your treatment, take all the used boxes back to your pharmacist for a
correct and appropriate destruction of this medicinal product.
