December, 2008 1/3 Hi Marc, this is a quick little résumé for you to pass on to your client……….. Here’s an overview of a Fashion Week in Paris. Paris.…for an inspiring young Fashion Designer….. I understand you have an inspiration to become a fashion designer, I can relate to that………Paris was my first source of Fashion Inspiration 35 ? years ago……….and still is today a great mystical inspiration……….. First of all, you are staying in the most ‘’artsy / creative’’ arrondissement of Paris……my favorite…….so I will guide you starting from this location……. Unfortunately, you may not be able to assist to Prêt-à-Porter or Textile Fairs…..the biggest in the world, because you need an official registration. However, I will guide you to visit the : Musée de la mode et du costume à Paris: http://www.paris.fr/portail/Culture/Portal.lut?page_id=5854 just make sure you visit their website for opening hours and exhibitions……….then you should visit ; L’École de la Chambre Syndicale de Haute Couture à Paris: http://www.modeaparis.com/vf/ecoles/index.html again, make sure you visit their website for public visits availability……… Also you have Le musée de Réattu that may still have the exhibition of Christian Lacroix or other special couturier…….. http://www.museereattu.arles.fr/ again, make sure you visit their website for opening hours. You will for sure be more then thrilled to walk into all the most glamorous, elegant and prestigious shops in the world………that alone is an education for fashion trends, color palettes and textile innovations……. here’s a overview of a Fashion Week in Paris con’t 2/3 So starting in your arrondissement arrondissement, nt, vicinity - 3/4/10/11/12……( 3/4/10/11/12……( Le Marais – Saint--Louis – République – Bastille )………….one Chatelet –île de la cite – Saint of the most beautiful street of Paris, in my opinion, is Rue des Francs Bourgeois…………I have spent hours and hours on this street, letting the inspirations sink in as I would be sketching away….… ..you will see : shops like Abou D’Abi, Rayure, Ventilo, Comptoir des Cotonniers, Camaieu, Dileme, Etam, Des filles à la vanille, Les Antiquaires de la Mode, Arayal, Roucou Paris, Complicité,……Ch Création,….………and more……..on Rue Vieille du Temple, don’t miss Aria, Tsu-Tsu…….and more………you will have all kinds of other chic boutiques you can walk in, they usually have fantastic music of the world that we don’t seam to hear anywhere else……..walk towards the west -Le Centre Georges de Pompidou / Place du Chatelet—more unusual boutiques in this futuristic amazing architecture…..……….. Next arrondissements as you are still walking towards the west…..1/2/9/ ( Tuileries Saint--Honoré –Opéra –Vendôme -Haussmann )…… )……the Louvre –Tuil eries –Saint Saint most beautiful Department stores in Paris:, you must see Galerie LaFayette Department Store , it has an amazing Tiffany ceiling and then Le Printemps Department Store... this is a land mark for Paris with its luxurious 5 or 6 floors - blvd Haussman et Chaussée-d’Antin,……. also there is .. La Samaritaine Depart. Store on rue de la Monnaie, and all the beautiful thousands of boutiques in the ‘’Forum des Hall’’……..are a must………then don’t shop on …….Rue St-Honoré, Rue de la Boucle…..you will see again, Naf-naf Shop, Kookai, Madrag, Laura Aime, ……….. Still going direction west……..you are now in arrondissements: 8 / 17 ( Champs Élisées – MadeleineMadeleine-MontaigneMontaigne-François 1er - Faubourg StStHonoré – Ternes – Champerret………) Shops are very elegant in this area….make sure you browse on rue du Faubourg St-Honoré, you will find Anna Lowe, Bcbg Max Azaria, Elegance, (what a collection) Elsa Field,….another posh street is ..…Les Champs Élisées….you will shop Marella, Morgan, Reneta……Patrizia Pepe Firenze…….many Italian sartoria……… here’s a overview of a Fashion Week in Paris con’t 3/3 As you are crossing over to La Rive Gauche, you have have arrondissement: 16 – 15 – 7 ( Trocadero –Champs de Mars –Les Invalides – Passy – Auteuil – Grenelle – Victor Hugo )…… …..nice shopping like a ‘Paris ‘ can offer, however , trends are more difficult to interpret in this area, it is very touristic, ‘’Tour Eiffel ‘’..so therefore I have nerver done my R&D here, only sight seeing…….. Now here is a very popular area where fashion designers love to shop….arrondissements shop….arrondissements : 6/ 5/ 14/ 13 ( Saint Germain – Quartier Latin – Luxembourg – Montparnasse – Italie ) Le Faubourg St-Germain et Le St Germain des Prés area is just absolutely charming. You even have the ‘Le Musée Réattu / L’Expo Christian De la Croix’ very famous artist/designer…rue de Furstenberg… Look out for these famous streets: Boulevard Saint-Michel, Rue de Rennes, Boulevard Saint-Germain, Rue Bonaparte, Rue Du Four, Rue Des Canettes, Rue Saint-Placide, You will see the same stores as before, but with different merchandise………..boutiques like Axara, Etam, Caroll, Christine Laure, Couleurs d’ailleurs, Armand Thiery, Alain Manoukian, Heteroclite, Kirane, Moloko, Pull Sion, Zapa,…..Ambre, Un jour Ailleurs…………..and many, many more……… You will notice that shop owners have cute little ‘toy’ dogs sitting in baskets on their counter, they will actually pay more attention to their dogs then the costumers…….take it with good humor and a smile………..it is what it is……. ….bring your sketch pad………!!
