A French scientist in IPCC
The French climatologist Valérie Masson Delmotte accesses the post copresident of the group No. 1 of IPCC that addresses climate knowledge.
October 8, 2015
A French scientist to the new office of the IPCC
The plenary meeting of intergovernmental experts on the evolution of
Climate Change (IPCC) meeting in Dubrovnik from October 5 elected members
of the executive committee of the new IPCC Bureau, the Presidency is
entrusted to the Korean researcher Hoesung Lee. France and Europe are well
represented.
The French climatologist Valérie Masson Delmotte accesses the post copresident of the Group No. 1, which focuses on climate knowledge. Valérie
Masson-Delmotte is an internationally recognized scientist, specialist past
climates and climate variability, belonging to the Laboratory of Climate
Sciences and the Environment.

2015 Thesis Prize
Quentin Libois, who performed some of his work at Concordia, is one of
seven winners of the 2015 Thesis Prize from the University Grenoble Alpes.
His work done LGGE led by Ghislain Picard were conducted in close
collaboration with Laurent Arnaud (LGGE) and Marie Dumont, Samuel Morin,
Matthew and Eric Brown Lafaysse CNRM-GAME.
His work focused on radiative transfer of solar energy in the snowpack and
its consequences on the metamorphism of snow, with the ultimate aim to
better quantify the snow-albedo climate feedbacks involving snow. By
combining the experimental station of Concordia Dome C and modeling with
SURFEX / ISBA Crocus-Quentin reaped exceptional measures and obtained
several original results published in four articles first author to date.
These results allowed several fundamental advances in optics of snow and a
better understanding of the processes governing the evolution of the
seasonal snow surface on the Antarctic Plateau. All this was summarized in
5 minutes in a video he made for the bid price:

Exhebition in Science City
At a time when the 21th World Climate Conference (COP21) in Paris is
announced as decisive in relation to the future of the planet,
Universcience present climate, the expo 360°.
This exhibition–course on climate change offers to the general public a
dual approach:
• A complete decryption of current scientific evidence, debates current and
future impacts;
• A vision of the future by contemporary artists, through installations and
photographs.
Global warming, melting of Arctic sea ice, rising sea level … these issues
are regularly addressed in news, Climate, the expo 360° provides key for
the visitor to understand all the issues. Until March 20, 2016 at the Cité
des Sciences et de l’Industrie.

The train Climate
On 18 October, in Brest railway station, the climate train will be stopping
from 10 am to 18 pm with an exhibition on board and many scientifics
available for answer to all yours questions. The IPEV will also be present
with the presentation of research vessel the Marion Dufresne who is in the
service of climate research.
This is an exceptional opportunity for everyone to see more clearly on
climate change and its effects and better understand how to act.

… make the link between bacterial diversity and the carbon cycle in the
Southern Ocean.

Researchers at the Laboratory of Microbial Oceanography (LOMIC / OOB, CNRS
/ UPMC) and the Laboratory of Oceanology and Geosciences (LOG, CNRS /
Université du Littoral Cote d’Opale / University of Lille 1) collected
during the campaign KEOPS2 in the Southern Ocean, a unique data set
combining carbon flux measurements and microbial biodiversity. The
researchers were able to show that there was a link between the diversity
of marine bacterial communities and their productivity.
Video conference between François
Hollande and Concordia
September 30, Yves Frenot, director of IPEV, introduced video conferencing
Mr. President of the Republic, François Holande with Concordia station in
the Antarctic.
On the occasion of the inauguration of the Climate Dome of CNES , Ségolène
Royal, Minister of Ecology, Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, Minister of Education
and Thierry Mandon, Secretary of State for Higher Education and Research,
inaugurated the climate Dome, Wednesday, September 30 at 11 am in the
presence of the President of the Republic. Set in the courtyard of the
Hotel of Roquelaure, the pavilion has space activities dedicated to Earth
observation.
European Researchers’ Night
IPEV participate in the 10th edition of the European Researchers’ Night who will
take place at Océanopolis, September 25, 2015 from 19h to midnight. During this
event, IPEV will presents the Marion Dufresne research vessel for scientific
research.
