Ongoing Initiatives to Record our History
“With a Few Guns!” LCol (Retd) Brian Reid continues to conduct interviews and gather
documentation to cover all aspects of Gunner participation in operations in Afghanistan
– all rank levels, all types of stories.
DHH “Popular History” of Canada’s Fight in SW Asia – This book will cover all arms
and services but I’d like to see lots of Gunner input. I strongly urge all to participate with
DHH to record the spectacular performance of Gunners in Afghanistan
Volume III of the Gunners of Canada. – This book will follow Vol I and II, and will
cover our Gunner history from the mid-sixties until post-Afghanistan. We have at least
three potential historians interested in writing this history, and RHQ/Heritage/RCAA are
writing up a “Statement of Work” so that we can evaluate and select the most fitting
historian(s).
Archiving - Documentation, video clips, photos and electronic information – for the
three projects above, all will be retained in public archives and the RCA Museum, and
selected records will be published on the Artillery.net website.
Bilingual History - All of the above will be bilingual, and we’ll translate Vol 1 & II

“With a Few Guns!” LCol (Retd) Brian Reid mène présentement des entrevues et amasse
de la documentation pour pouvoir couvrir tous les aspects de la particiâtion des Artilleurs
dans les opérations en Afghanistan – tous grades et histoire de tous genres.
“Histoire populaire” du Canada en Asie du Sud-ouest de DHP – Ce livre parlera de tous
les services mais il devrait y avoir beaucoup de présence pour les artilleurs. J’encourage tout
le monde à participer avec DHP pour montrer la participation spectaculaire des Artilleurs en
Afghanistan
Volume III des Artilleurs du Canada – Ce livre suivra les Vol I et II, et couvrira l’histoire des
Artilleurs pour la période du milieu des années 60 jusqu’après la période post-Afghanistan.
On a au moins trois historiens potentiels intéressés à écrire cette page d’histoire, et l’AARC
élabore une le requis pour pouvoir évaluer quel historien serait le plus approprié pour faire ce
travail.
Archives – La documentation les vidéo-clips, les photographies et les information
électroniques – les trois projets mentionnés plus haut resteront dans les archives publiques et
au Musée ARC. Cettaines choses seront publiés sur le site web: Artillery.net.
Histroire bilingue – Tous les ouvrages seront bilingues et nous traduirons aussi les volumes
Vol I & II.

DHH “Popular History” of Canada’s Fight
in SW Asia
The Directorate of History and Heritage at National Defence Headquarters is in the
process of researching and writing a three-volume "popular" history of Canada's fight
in southwest Asia. The official history will come later.
 The first volume will cover the Operation Apollo period;
 The second, ISAF operations in Kabul; and
 The third will focus on operations following the “Return to Kandahar" in 20052006.
These histories will look at operations from a CF perspective, but they will drill down to
specific unit or branch stories/developments as appropriate.
DHH will work collegially with LCol (Retired) Brian Reid, in Kemptville ON, who will be
the main point of contact for all Gunners:

experiences, I would urge you to cooperate to the greatest extent possible.

La Direction Histoire et patrimoine - une histoire
« populaire » de la participation canadienne aux
combats en Asie du sud-ouest
La Direction Histoire et patrimoine, Quartier général de la Défense nationale, prépare
une histoire « populaire » de la participation canadienne aux combats en Asie du sudouest (l’histoire officielle viendra plus tard).
 Le premier tome couvrira la période de l’Opération Apollo,
 Le second les opérations de la FIAS (ISAF) à Kaboul, et
 Le troisième portera sur le « retour à Kandahar » en 2005-2006. Ces volumes traiteront des
opérations du point de vue des FC, mais on y trouvera aussi le récit d’événements intéressant
les unités et les branches.
La DHP appuie le projet afghan de l’artillerie ainsi que son historien, qui reste le
contact principal des artilleurs, mais il est possible qu’elle vous approche pour obtenir
votre aide ou pour une entrevue sur vos expériences. Dans ces cas, nous
apprécierions énormément que vous coopériez dans toute la mesure du possible.
