In das Produkt kann ein IDE-Gerät (3.5" oder 5.25") eingebaut werden; der Betrieb ist über

Vorsicht, Lebensgefahr!
Bevor Sie das Gehäuse öffnen, trennen Sie es von der Netzspannung, ziehen
Sie den Netzstecker! Das Ausschalten über den Netzschalter genügt nicht!
Aus Sicherheits- und Zulassungsgründen (CE) ist das eigenmächtige Umbauen und/oder
Verändern des Produkts nicht gestattet.
Der Aufbau des Produkts entspricht der Schutzklasse 1. Als Spannungsquelle darf nur eine
ordnungsgemäße Netzsteckdose (230V/50Hz) des öffentlichen Versorgungsnetzes verwendet
werden.
Geräte, die an Netzspannung betrieben werden, gehören nicht in Kinderhände. Lassen Sie
deshalb in Anwesenheit von Kindern besondere Vorsicht walten.
Gehen Sie vorsichtig mit dem Produkt um - durch Stöße, Schläge oder dem Fall aus bereits
geringer Höhe wird es beschädigt.
Partitionieren und Formatieren
Wenn Sie im externen Gehäuse eine unformatierte "neue" IDE-Festplatte eingebaut haben, so
ist die Festplatte vor der Verwendung zu partitionieren.
Starten Sie unter Windows die "MS-DOS-Eingabeaufforderung" (z.B. unter
Start/Programme/Zubehör zu finden).
Falls eine Meldung erscheint "...Größe der Festplatte übersteigt 512MB...", so bestätigen Sie
sie mit "J".
Wählen Sie "5. Aktuelle Festplatte wechseln", wählen Sie die neue Festplatte aus. Legen Sie
dann über den Menüpunkt "1." eine neue Partition an.
Ältere FDISK-Versionen haben Probleme bei der Erkennung von Festplatten, die größer als ca.
64GByte sind. Die Kapazität wird falsch angezeigt. Ignorieren Sie die falsche Anzeige und fahren Sie in der Partitionierung fort.
On the external hard disk only one single partition should be set up. Although it is possible to
have more than one partition, this could, in rare cases, lead to problems.
However, if you would still like to set up several partitions, it can lead to problems on hard disks
with more then 64GBytes, since older FDISK versions do not recognise them properly.
The entry of the partition size has to be made in "percent" (entering e.g., "5000" for
5000MByte/5GByte does not work). Just enter "10%" to create a 8GByte partition on a
80GByte hard disk.
Finally a restart of Windows is necessary.
After the restart, the hard disk and/or individual partitions can be formatted in the Windows file
explorer (select correct hard disk/partition, do not format hard disk/partition with important
data). Or you can restart the MS-DOS prompt and format the hard disk/ partition with the MSDOS command "format".
The product should be kept out of reach of children.
Safety Instructions
Leave the product switched off and wait until it has reached room temperature. This
might take several hours.
Verwenden Sie das externe Gehäuse niemals gleich dann, wenn es von einem kalten in einen
warmen Raum gebracht wird. Das dabei entstehende Kondenswasser kann unter Umständen
das Produkt zerstören.
Lassen Sie das Produkt zuerst uneingeschaltet auf Zimmertemperatur kommen. Dies
kann u.U. mehrere Stunden dauern.
Achten Sie darauf, dass die Isolierung des gesamten Produkts weder beschädigt noch zerstört
wird.
Eine Wartung oder Reparatur darf nur durch eine Fachwerkstatt durchgeführt werden.
Überprüfen Sie vor jedem Gebrauch das Produkt auf Beschädigungen!
Falls Sie Beschädigungen feststellen, so darf das Produkt NICHT an die
Netzspannung angeschlossen werden! Es besteht Lebensgefahr!
Es ist anzunehmen, dass ein gefahrloser Betrieb nicht mehr möglich ist, wenn
- das Gerät sichtbare Beschädigungen aufweist,
- das Gerät nicht mehr funktioniert und
- nach längerer Lagerung unter ungünstigen Verhältnissen oder
- nach schweren Transportbeanspruchungen.
Tipps & Hinweise
IDE-CDROMs, CD-Brenner oder DVD-ROM-Laufwerke werden danach bereits im WindowsDatei-Explorer bereits angezeigt. Ggf. ist jedoch ein Neustart von Windows erforderlich, bevor
die Laufwerke korrekt verwendet werden können.

Das Produkt gehört nicht in Kinderhände.
Für CDROMs, CD-Brenner oder DVD-ROM-Laufwerke steht ein Audiokabel zur Verfügung, das
das Audiosignal auf die zwei Cinchbuchsen auf der Gehäuserückseite führt ("rot"=rechtes
Audiosignal, "weiss"=linkes Audiosignal, "schwarz"=GND/Masse).
Windows 98 (hier ist der Betrieb über den 1394-Port nicht möglich) bzw. 98SE dagegen
erkennt die neue Hardware und fordert einen Treiber von Ihnen. Legen Sie dann den TreiberDatenträger ein und folgen Sie allen Anweisungen von Windows.

Reinigung
Egal, ob Sie den USB- oder 1394-Anschluss verwenden, läuft die Installation gleich ab.
Bei Windows ME oder XP sind die benötigten Treiber bereits in Windows enthalten, der mitgelieferte Treiber-Datenträger ist nicht erforderlich! Folgen Sie einfach den Anweisungen von Windows.

Characteristics
Stellen Sie die Master-/Slave-Steckbrücke des IDE-Geräts auf "Master" ein. Verbinden Sie es
dann mit dem 80poligen Datenkabel und dem 5.25"-Stromanschlusskabel.
Verwenden Sie entweder den USB-Anschluss oder den 1394-Anschluss. Die
gleichzeitige Benutzung beider Anschlüsse kann das Produkt zerstören!

Partitioning and Formatting
If you have a "new" IDE hard disk installed in the external housing, you have to partition the
hard disk before you use it.
Start "MS-DOS prompt" under Windows (can be found under e.g., start/programme/tools).
If the note "...size of hard disk exceeds 512MB..." appears, confirm it with "Y".
Choose "5. Changing of present hard disk", select the new hard disk. Then create a new partition via menu item "1.".
Older FDISK versions have problems with the recognition of hard disks which are larger than
approx. 64GBytes. Their capacity is displayed incorrectly. Ignore the incorrect display and continue partitioning.
Handhabung
Befestigen Sie an der Frontseite des Gehäuses die jeweils zum IDE-Gerät passende
Frontblende.
Schließen Sie dann das Gehäuse wieder.

An IDE device (3.5" or 5.25") can be installed into the product, it can be operated via a USB
interface (USB2.0/1.1) or a 1394 interface ("FireWire").
Öffnen Sie das Gehäuse; auf der Rückseite sind dazu am linken und rechten Gehäuserand zwei
Schrauben zu entfernen.
Ziehen Sie dann das Kunststoff-Gehäuse nach hinten weg. Der Metalldeckel lässt sich abnehmen,
indem Sie ihn hinten (bei den Steckern) 1-2mm anheben und dann nach hinten hin herausziehen.
Schrauben Sie das IDE-Gerät mit 4 passenden Schrauben fest, achten Sie darauf, dass die
Schrauben nicht zu lang sind!
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Auf der externen Festplatte sollte nur eine einzige Partition angelegt werden. Mehr als eine
Partition ist zwar möglich, dies könnte in seltenen Fällen aber zu Problemen führen.
Wenn Sie trotzdem mehrere Partitionen anlegen möchten, so kann es bei Festplatten mit mehr
als 64GByte zu Problemen kommen, da ältere FDISK-Versionen diese nicht richtig erkennen.
Die Eingabe der Partitionsgröße muss dann per "Prozent"-Angabe erfolgen (die Eingabe von
z.B. "5000" für 5000MByte/5GByte funktioniert nicht!). Geben Sie einfach "10%" ein, um bei
einer 80GByte-Festplatte eine 8GByte-Partition zu erzeugen.
Anschließend ist ein Neustart von Windows erforderlich.
Nach dem Neustart können Sie die Festplatte bzw. die einzelnen Partitionen im Windows-DateiExplorer formatieren (richtige Festplatte/Partition auswählen, formatieren Sie keine Festplatte/Partition mit wichtigen Daten!). Oder Sie können erneut die MS-DOS-Eingabeaufforderung
starten und die Festplatte/Partition mit dem MS-DOS-Befehl "Format" formatieren.
Vermeiden Sie folgende widrige Umgebungsbedingungen am Aufstellungsort oder beim
Transport:
- Nässe oder zu hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit
- Extreme Kälte oder Hitze, direkte Sonneneinstrahlung
- Staub oder brennbare Gase, Dämpfe oder Lösungsmittel
- starke Vibrationen, Stöße, Schläge
- starke Magnetfelder, wie in der Nähe von Maschinen oder Lautsprechern
Einbau eines IDE-Geräts
Zur Reinigung des Produkts reicht ein trockenes, weiches und fusselfreies Tuch.
• USB- und 1394-Geräte erlauben das Ein- und Ausstecken während dem Betrieb.
Sie sollten dabei aber beachten, dass evtl. Dateien beschädigt werden könnten, wenn Sie
beim Laden/Speichern das Verbindungskabel herausziehen.
Bei Windows ME/XP erscheint ggf. ein Pfeil-Symbol in der Menüleiste, über das man
Windows anweisen kann, das USB-/1394-Gerät zu "trennen", die Datenübertragungen also
so zu beenden, dass man das Verbindungskabel gefahrlos abstecken kann.
• Bei USB2.0 und 1394 sind (abhängig von der Geschwindigkeit des IDE-Geräts) mehrere
MByte/s möglich.
Wird das externe Gehäuse an einem USB1.1-Port betrieben, so ist eine
Datenübertragungsgeschwindigkeit von bis zu 1MByte/s erreichbar.
• Die rote LED hinten am Gehäuse leuchtet bei aktiver USB-Verbindung. Die grüne LED leuchtet bei USB2.0-Verbindung.
• Das zweipolige Anschlusskabel an der LED der Frontabdekkung (für Festplatten) wird wie folgt angesteckt:

Caution, deadly peril!
Before opening the housing, separate it from the mains voltage, pull the mains
plug. To switch the device off via the mains switch is not enough.
The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible because of
safety and approval reasons (CE).
The structure of the product complies with safety class I. As voltage source only a regular
mains socket (230V/50Hz) of the public supply grid may be used.
Devices run with mains voltage should be kept out of reach of children. Please be extra careful when children are around.
Please be careful with the product – shocks, impact or a drop even from low heights can damage it.
Installation of IDE device
Open the housing, on the back there are two screws that will need to be removed on the left
and the right edge of the housing.
Then pull the plastic housing off towards the back. The metal lid can be taken off by lifting it
on the back (near the pins) by 1-2mm and then pulling it towards the back.
Handling
Never use the external housing immediately after it has been brought from a cold into a warm
room. Condensation water that forms might destroy your device.
Make sure that the insulation of the entire product is neither damaged nor destroyed.
Maintenance or repairs may only be carried out in a specialist workshop.
Check the product for damage before each use.
In case you notice any damage, the product must NOT be connected to the
mains voltage. There is deadly peril.
Safe operation must be presumed to be no longer possible, if
- the product exhibits visible damage
- the product does not operate any longer
- the product was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time.
or
- the product was exposed to extraordinary stress caused by transport
Avoid the following adverse ambient conditions where you place the device or during transport:
- dampness or too high humidity
- extreme cold or heat, direct sun irradiation
- dust or flammable gases, vapours or solvents
- strong vibrations, shocks, impact
- strong magnetic fields, such as near machines or speakers
When setting up the product make sure that the cables are not folded or crushed.
Fix the corresponding suitable front cover to the IDE device on the front cover of the housing.
Cleaning
Set the master/slave plug-in jumper of the IDE device to "Master". Then connect it with the
80-pin data cable and the 5.25" power connection cable.
To clean the product, a dry, soft, lint-free cloth is sufficient.
For CD-ROMs, CD burners or DVD-ROM drives there is an audio cable available, which leads
the audio signal to the two cinch sockets on the back of the housing ("red"=right audio signal,
"white"=left audio signal, "black"=GND/earth).
Screw the IDE device tight with 4 suitable screws, make sure that the screws are not too long.
Close the housing again.
Connection to the PC and Driver Installation
Either use the USB connection or a the 1394 connection. The simultaneous use
of both connections can destroy the product.
No matter whether you are using the USB or the 1394 connection, the installation is the same.
With Windows ME or XP the necessary drivers are already included in Windows, the driver data
carrier is not required. Simply follow the instructions of Windows.
Windows 98 (this is where the operation via the 1394 port is not possible) and/or 98SE recognise the new hardware and asks you to insert the driver. Insert the driver data carrier and follow all instructions of Windows.
After that, IDE-CD-ROMs, CD burners or DVD-ROM drivers will already be displayed in the
Windows file explorer. However, a restart of Windows might be necessary before the drives
can be used correctly.
Tips & Notes
• USB and 1394 devices are hot-swappable, that means they can be connected or disconnected while the computer is running.
However, you should be aware that files might get damaged if you pull the connecting cable
during loading/saving.
With Windows ME/XP a symbol with an arrow might appear on the menu bar, via which
Windows can be asked to "disconnect" the USB/1394 device, which means data transfer is
stopped and the connecting cable can be disconnected without any risks.
• With USB2.0 and 1394 (depending on the speed of the IDE device) several MByte/s are possible.
If the external housing is operated via a USB1.1 port, a data transfer of up to 1MByte/s can
be reached.
• The red LED at the back of the housing lights up during an active USB connection. The green
LED lights up during USB2.0 connection.

Attention, danger de mort !
Avant d’ouvrir le boîtier, débranchez la fiche de la prise de courant ! Eteindre
seulement par l’interrupteur ne suffit pas !
Pour des raisons de sécurité et d’homologation (CE), il est interdit de modifier la construction
et/ou de transformer le produit soi-même.
Le produit a été construit conformément à la classe de protection 1. Pour l’alimentation en
courant, seule l’utilisation d’une prise de courant homologuée du secteur public (230V/50Hz)
est autorisée.
Il faut maintenir les appareils électriques hors de la portée des enfants. Soyez vigilant en leur
présence.
Soyez prudent lors du maniement du produit – chocs, coups et chutes même d’une faible hauteur provoquent un endommagement.
Création de partitions et formatage
Si vous avez encastré dans le boîtier externe un disque dur IDE "neuf" non formaté, il faut partitionner le disque dur avant de l’utiliser.
Démarrez "l’invite de commandes MS-DOS" (vous pourrez la trouver par exemple sous
démarrage/programmes/ accessoires).
Si le message "...disque dur dépasse 512MB...", apparaît, confirmez-le avec "J".
Choisissez "5. Changer disque dur ", choisissez le nouveau disque dur. Créez ensuite une nouvelle partition sous l’option "1."
Les versions FDISK plus anciennes ont des problèmes à reconnaître des disques durs dépassant environ 64GOctets. Une fausse capacité est affichée. Ignorez l’affichage erroné et continuez la création de partitions.
Sur le disque dur externe, nous vous conseillons de ne créer qu’une seule partition. Plusieurs
partitions sont possibles, dans de rares cas, cependant, ceci pourrait entraîner des problèmes.
Si vous voulez quand même créer plusieurs partitions, des problèmes pourraient se poser dans
le cas de disques durs de plus de 64GOctets, parce que les versions FDISK plus anciennes ne
les reconnaissent pas correctement.
Dans de tels cas, l’entrée de l’étendue de la partition doit se faire en «pourcentages» (entrer
par ex. "5000" pour 5000 MOctets/5 GOctets ne fonctionne pas !). Entrez tout simplement
"10%", afin de créer une partition de 8 GOctets sur un disque dur de 80 GOctets.
Ensuite il faut redémarrer Windows.
Après le redémarrage vous pouvez formater le disque dur respectivement les partitions individuelles dans l’explorateur de fichiers Windows (choisissez le disque dur correct/la partition correcte, ne formatez aucun disque dur/aucune partition contenant des données importantes !). Ou
bien vous pouvez redémarrer l’invite de commandes MS-DOS et formater le disque dur/la partition avec la commande MS-DOS "format".
Entretien/Maniement
L’appareil ne doit être utilisé que dans des pièces non humides en intérieur.
Maintenez le produit hors de la portée des enfants.
N’utilisez jamais le boîtier externe tout de suite quand il vient d’être mis d’une pièce froide
dans une pièce chaude. L’eau de condensation qui en résulte pourrait, dans des conditions
défavorables, détruire le produit.
Laissez donc le produit débranché prendre la température ambiante avant de le mettre
en marche. Ceci peut éventuellement prendre plusieures heures.
Prenez soin à ce que l’isolation de l’ensemble du produit ne soit ni endommagé ni détruite.
Tout entretien et toute réparation doivent impérativement être effectués par un atelier spécialisé.
Vérifiez avant chaque utilisation le bon état du produit !
Si vous constatez des endommagements, le produit ne doit PAS ETRE connecté à la tension du réseau ! Il y a danger de mort !
Il est probable qu’une utilisation sans danger n’est plus possible quand
- l’appareil présente des dommages visibles,
- l’appareil ne fonctionne plus et
- après un long stockage dans des conditions défavorables ou
- après des conditions de transport défavorables.
Pour ouvrir le boîtier, retirez deux vis qui se trouvent sur le côté droit et gauche au dos du boîtier.
Ensuite tirez le boîtier en plastique vers l’arrière. Le couvercle métallique se laisse enlever, en le
soulevant par l’arrière (là où se trouvent les prises) de 1 à 2 mm et en le sortant vers l’arrière.
Evitez d’utiliser l’appareil dans des conditions suivantes contraires à son bon fonctionnement
à l’emplacement de l’appareil ou lors du transport:
- humidité ou humidité de l’air trop élevée
- froideur extrême ou chaleur, exposition directe au soleil
- poussière ou gaz inflammables, vapeurs ou solvants
- fortes vibrations, chocs ou coups
- des champs magnétiques forts, comme dans la proximité de machines ou de hauts-parleurs.
Fixez le panneau avant allant avec l’appareil IDE sur l’avant du boîtier.
Faites attention en mettant le produit en place à ne pas plier ni coincer les fils électriques !
Positionnez le strap enfichable Master/Slave (maître/esclave) de l’appareil IDE sur "Master".
Connectez-le ensuite au câble de transmission des données à 80 pôles et au câble de raccordement au courant 5.25".
Nettoyage
Encastrement d’un appareil IDE
Pour les cédéroms, les graveurs de CDs ou les lecteurs DVD-ROM, un câble audio est à disposition qui guide le signal audio vers les deux douilles cinch au dos du boîtier. ("rouge"= signal
audio droit, "blanc"=signal audio gauche, "noir"=GND/masse).
Revissez l’appareil IDE avec 4 vis appropriées, veillez à ce que les vis ne soient pas trop longues !
Ensuite, refermez le boîtier.
Connexion au PC et installation du pilote
Utilisez soit le port USB, soit le port 1394. Si vous utilisez les deux ports simultanément, vous risquez de détruire le produit !
Peu importe, si vous utilisez le port USB ou le port 1394, l’installation est toujours la même.
Sous Windows ME ou XP les pilotes nécessaires sont déjà compris dans Windows. Le cédérom
joint n’est donc pas nécessaire ! Suivez tout simplement toutes les indications de Windows.
Windows 98 (ici, la mise en service sur le port 1394 n’est pas possible) ou 98SE par contre ne
reconnaît pas le nouveau matériel et a besoin d’un pilote. Insérez la disquette/ le CD pilote et
suivez toutes les indications de Windows.
Ensuite les cédéroms IDE, les graveurs de CDs ou les lecteurs DVD-ROM apparaissent déjà
dans le l’explorateur de fichiers de Windows. Il faut éventuellement ensuite redémarrer
Windows, avant de pouvoir utiliser les lecteurs correctement.
Pour nettoyer le produit, il suffit d’utiliser un chiffon sec, doux et non pelucheux.
Trucs & astuces
• Les appareils USB et 1394 permettent la connexion et la déconnexion pendant le fonctionnement. Vous devriez cependant veiller à ce que des fichiers pourraient éventuellement être
endommagés si vous déconnectez le câble de raccordement lors de la charge ou de la
mémorisation de données. Sous Windows ME/XP, un symbole-flèche apparaît le cas échéant
dans la barre de menus, au moyen duquel vous pouvez indiquer à Windows de «séparer»
l’appareil USB-/1394, donc de terminer la transmission de données pour que l’on puisse
déconnecter sans danger le câble de raccordement.
• Pour les USB2.0 et 1394 (en fonction de la vitesse de l’appareil IDE) plusieurs MOctets/s sont
possibles. Quand le boîtier externe est exploité sur un port USB1.1, une vitesse de transmission de données de jusqu’à 1MOctets/s peut être atteinte.
• La LED rouge au dos du boîtier s’allume quand une connexion USB est active. La LED verte
s’allume lors d’une connexion USB2.0.
• Le câble de raccordement à deux pôles du voyant LED du panneau avant (pour disques durs) est connecté comme suit :
