protection, new materials, biomedicine and information technology

example, printing machines from Koenig & Bauer, the third largest
printing machine manufacturer in the world or the famous "MERO
nodes" in the Eden Project in Cornwall, in the Lehrter train station in Berlin or in hi tech constructions in Dubai
or Singapore.
The Marienberg Fortress, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wuerzburg Residence, the baroque city center
and the Old Main Bridge are world famous tourist attractions that draw a multitude of visitors every year.
Around 27,000 students from all over the world are a guarantee for vitality and cultural diversity simultaneously more and more older people are also discovering the advantages of a city that stands out
because of its pleasant climatic conditions and an extensive range of leisure time activities.
Wuerzburg lies in the heart of Germany and Europe. With the freeways A 3, A 7 and A 81 the most
important European traffic axes intersect in Wuerzburg, to the north of Wuerzburg there are also the
freeways A 70 and A 71. Moreover, this network is supplemented by five federal highways (B 8, 13, 19, 22
and 27), that assure short distances between the municipal area and the freeways.Three airports - in
Frankfurt am Main, Nuremberg and Stuttgart - are only about 60 to 95 miles away. As an ICE junction city,
Wuerzburg also has at its disposal superb train connections. Depending on these connections, the airports
can be reached in one to three hours.
The Julius Maximilian University Wuerzburg is numbered among the ten leading universities in Germany
and has a tradition extending back over more than 600 years. 400 professors instruct about 20,000 students
in ten faculties. In a number of scientific fields the University of Wuerzburg also belongs to the international
elite of all academic institutions.
The University of Applied Sciences Wuerzburg-Schweinfurt is a university of the modern knowledge
society and the third largest technical university in Bavaria. With its 21 courses of studies for bachelors and
masters degrees, it offers future and market oriented education programs with excellent career opportunities.
In the research sector the Biozentrum (Theodor-Boveri-Institute for Bioscience) of the university has an
outstanding reputation. The founding of the Rudolf-Virchow Center for Experimental Biomedicine is one of the
highlights on the path to becoming a hi tech site, just as the Center for Telematics or the Research Center
Magnetic Resonance Bavaria. Besides the technical universities, other renowned research institutes also
furnish an innovation-friendly climate: the South German Plastics Center, the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate
Research and the Center for Applied Energy Research are other important parts of a mosaic that is
responsible for the optimum interlinking of science and the economy. The points of emphasis lie in the areas
of materials, structural and surface technologies, life-sciences and informatics/commercial information
technology.
