DICE...
SGS TOY SAFETY SEMINARS
THE AGENDA
HOW TO PROTECT YOUR BRAND BY IDENTIFYING
PRODUCT SAFETY CONCERNS
10.00 am - 17.00 pm
SGS recognizes that in today’s litigious environment,
meeting legal regulations is not always sufficient to protect
against product failures or design defects. Many product
recalls occur on products that either comply with legal
standards or have standards developed for them.
The Toy Safety Directive in Europe sets essential
requirements for toys insisting that they be safe taking
into account the normal behaviour of children. While
complying with the EN71 series gives presumption of
compliance with the essential requirements of the Toy
Safety Directive, other hazards may exist that can be
identified with an EC type-examination performed by a
Notified Body. The General Product Safety Directive also
requires other products placed on the market to present
little or no risk to consumers, regardless of the product’s
compliance with existing standards. These directives, as
well as other safety initiatives outside of Europe, have

With European and National Legislations become stricter
every day, it is important to understand how the forthcoming
changes will affect your business, this is particularly true
of the new EN71 Part 9 organic compound requirements.
These seminars focusing on the Toy industry provide
information on how product safety can fit into a new
product development process. Information is also
presented on the technical aspects of Product Risk
Assessment processes that can be used to identify
potential hazards not addressed by standards. In addition,
our experts will give you an update on the latest
developments of EN71 Part 9 and how you could comply
with the standard technically. Implementing strategies
like those presented in this seminar can yield significant
cost savings by minimizing costly recalls, reducing your
test expenditure and speeding up your time to market,
whilst also protecting your brand.
