Das siebente Siegel
Retrospektive Retrospective Schweden Sweden Det Sjunde Inseglet Das siebente Siegel The Seventh Seal Ein frühes Schlüsselwerk Ingmar Bergmans. An early key work of Ingmar Bergman‘s. All the important motifs of his later films are inherent to this game of chess between knight and death. Sweden at the time of the plague in 1351. The knight Block returns home from the crusades, accompanied by his knave. On his travels he encounters death personified, who challenges the knight to a game of chess over life and death. Should death win, Block must die unless he finds God. Thus Block embarks on a tireless quest that ultimately fails. “The Seventh Seal” is a key work of Ingmar Bergman‘s that subsumes his very personal themes: questioning the existence of God, as well as questions pertaining to the meaning of life, love and death. Simultaneously the film reflects the history of Swedish film. Its use of landscapes, the rough sea and the personification of death all unquestionably stand in the tradition of Swedish silent films after World War I, and are reminiscent especially of Victor Sjöström‘s “Körkalen” (1921). 1957, 92 Min., 35 mm, Schwarzweiß black & white, englische Untertitel English subtitles Regie Director Ingmar Bergman Drehbuch Screenplay Ingmar Bergman Kamera Camera Gunnar Fischer Schnitt Editing Lennart Wallén Musik Music Erik Nordgren Rollen Cast Max von Sydow (Antonius Block), Bengt Ekerot (Der Tod), Nils Poppe (Jof), Gunnar Björnstrand (Jöns), Bibi Andersson (Mia), Inga Gill (Lisa, Frau des Schmieds), Maud Hansson (Hexe), Inga Landgré (Karin, Blocks Frau), Gunnel Lindblom (Mädchen), Bertil Anderberg (Raval), Anders Ek (Mönch) Produktion Production Allan Ekelund, AB Svensk Filmindustri Web www.bonnier.com Festivalkontakt Festival Contact The Swedish Institute Regisseur Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007) zählt zu den bedeutendsten Filmautoren, die das europäische Kino hervorgebracht hat. Director Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007) is one of the most important film authors of European cinema. When the Lübeck Film Club organized the Nordic Film Days for the first time, a total of three films of his were on the programme: “Prison / Fängelse” (1948), “Summerplay / Sommarlek” (1950) and “Sawdust and Tinsel / Gycklarnas afton” (1953), at a time when he was standing at the very beginning of an international career. Since then no other filmmaker‘s oeuvre has accompanied the Nordic Film Days Lübeck as that of the threetimes Oscar winner, the only director ever to have been honoured by his colleagues as ‚Best Film Director of all Times‘ at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival. NFL showed retrospectives in his honour in 1978 and 1988. Mi 29. Okt. 19.45 h - CS 2 122 CS = CineStar | FH = Filmhaus 50. Nordische Filmtage Lübeck 2008
