Daniel Aubin and Roger Nash
Daniel is Sudbury’s Poet Laureate. Prise de Parole recently
published his second book of poems,NÉOLOGIROUETTES. He is
a talented actor who also writes about arts and culture for Le
Voyageur. He works as the communications officer for la Galeries du Nouvel-Ontario.
Roger was the city’s first poet laureate. He is a Canadian
philosopher, poet, and professor Emeritus in the Department of
Philosophy at Laurentian University. He has published numerous books of poetry.

Welcome to Wordstock
On behalf of the Sudbury Arts Council, I
welcome you to Wordstock. We hope you are able
to attend some of the readings and workshops and
have a chance to get to know the city’s talented
playwrights, authors, novelists, and non fiction
writers. Telling and listening to our own stories is
more important than ever. If we inspire you this
weekend, we will have done our job.

Join Sudbury Living editor Vicki Gilhula as she presents a
collection of stories that celebrate writers who are no longer with
us but set a fine example: Florence Howey, Kit Coleman, Basil
Scully and Eric Munsterhjelm.

Conversation with writers Colin Hayward and Chris Nash. These
writers, originally from across the pond, have written fiction and
non fiction.

Cabaret: Songs from the (Post) Mistress

Reception to follow in the Cafe Lounge @ 9 pm
Experience the magic of this whimsical cabaret night
during which you will hear 11 songs taken from the
theatre play THE (POST) MISTRESS. The original music
and texts are written by author and musician Tomson
Highway.
Venez vibrer à la magie d’une soirée musicale au cours
de laquelle vous entendrez 11 chansons tirées du spectacle The (Post) Mistress (Zesty Gopher s’est fait écrasé
par un frigo). La musique et les textes originaux sont
écrits par l’auteur et musicien cri, Tomson Highway.
Le spectacle sera présenté en anglais.
Tomson Highway enjoys an international career as playwright, novelist, and pianist/songwriter. His best known
plays are THE REZ SISTERS, DRY LIPS OUGHTA MOVE TO
KAPUSKASING, ROSE, ERNESTINE SHUSWAP GETS HER
TROUT and THE (POST) MISTRESS. His best-selling novel
is KISS OF THE FUR QUEEN.
Patricia Cano graduated from Theatre and Spanish
Literature at the University of Toronto. In 2001, Patricia
played the lead role in the world premiere of Tomson
Highway’s musical ROSE, and since that time has travelled the world performing Cree Cabaret with Tomson. In
2010/2011, Patricia was an actor with the National Arts
Centre English Theatre Company. She had performed
THE (POST) MISTRESS in English and French.
Jean-Yves Begin was one of the first graduates of Laurentian University’s jazz program. He studied the saxophone with Allan Walsh. He has recorded extensively for
CBC Television and Radio.

Publishing Business: Laurence Steven of Scrivener Press has
published many Northern Ontario authors and writers. He will take
the mystery out of the business of getting published.

deux ans, un organisme multidisciplinaire qui regroupe de jeunes

imaginaire telle une pignata.

Roger was the city’s first poet laureate. He is a Canadian philosopher, poet, and professor Emeritus in the Department of Philosophy at Laurentian University. He has published numerous books
of poetry. In 2009, he won the PEN/O.Henry Short Story Prize for
THE CAMERA AND THE COBRA.
Charlie aka The Bard of the North Shore lives in Massey.
He has a loyal following within northeastern Ontario, as well as
readers across the country who enjoy his poetry. He recorded
poems on the CD, THE BEST FROM BIRCH LAKE ROAD.
Kim teaches English at Marymount Academy. A poet and short
story writer, Kim has published two books of poetry. She is also a
member of the Writers Union of Canada (WUC) and PEN Canada.
Her most recent book of poems THE NARCOLEPTIC MADONNA
was released in November 2012.

Greater Sudbury Public Library presents programming for tweens
and teens.

Matthew Heiti/Staged Words: Matthew holds a BFA in Acting
from Ryerson University and an MA in Creative Writing from the
University of New Brunswick. He is the writer in residence at
the STC and this season his play about the Nickel Belt Baseball
League, MUCKING IN THE DRIFT, will premiere there. He runs the
Playwrights’ Junction, a workshop for developing writers. He is
a Genie-nominated screenwriter and his novel, THE CITY STILL
BREATHING will be published by Coach House this fall.
In July, he will be directing Encore Theatre’s production of THE
MONUMENT. He is an actor and appeared recently in Encore’s
LENIN’S EMBALMERS.
Greater Sudbury Public Library staff present a children’s
storytelling session in English and French.

– Sonia Lamontagne et Daniel Groleau Landry.
Originaire de Fauquier dans le Nord de l’Ontario, Sonia Lamontagne a complété ses études de premier cycle en littérature, en
psychologie et en éducation à l’Université Laurentienne. Après
avoir consacré deux années à l’enseignement, elle poursuit ses
études en rédaction professionnelle et édition à l’Université
d’Ottawa.
