Tapezierte Interieur-Anordnungen. Narrative des Wohnsubjekts um 1800
Internationaler Workshop an der Universität Bremen
04.–05. Mai 2012
Der Workshop legt den inhaltlichen Schwerpunkt auf die Schnittstelle des
Beziehungsgeflechts zwischen Tapete, BewohnerInnen-Subjekt und Wohnraum.
Untersucht werden Didaktiken und Narrative von Tapeten-Interieurs um 1800
sowie Fragen ihrer geschlechtlichen und/oder kulturellen Kodierung im
Raumgefüge. Zur Diskussion stehen die implizite Wirkmächtigkeit von
Geschmackstrends sowie Geschlechter- und Körperdiskursen auf BildtapetenEnsembles. Ein weiteres Augenmerk liegt auf der Interdependenz von Reisetopoi
und Gender-Diskursen im Medium Wanddekor, das auf sehr komplexe Weise die
großen Themen Reise, Bildung und (Erfahrung von) Körperlichkeit oder Bewegung
in das scheinbar private Wohnhaus transponiert. Im Austausch mit verschiedenen
Fachrichtungen und Disziplinen soll erörtert werden, auf welche Art und Weise
Bildtapeten erzählen oder Bild-Räumlichkeit erzeugen und inwiefern in der
Interaktion mit den betrachtenden Subjekten kulturelle Verhaltenscodes
produziert und gegebenenfalls (bewohn- oder bereisbare) Wissensräume
konstruiert werden.

Wallpapered interiors. Narrative on resident-subjects around 1800
International workshop at the University of Bremen
4th – 5th May 2012
The main focus of the workshop is on the interface of the relationships between
wallpaper, the resident as a subject and the living space. Didactical aspects and
narratives created by wallpaper in interiors around 1800 will be explored, in
addition to questions concerning its gender-related and/or cultural coding within
the spatial ensemble. The discussion will centre around the implicit impact of
trends in taste, as well as gender and body discourse, on scenic wallpaper
ensembles. Another focus of attention is on the interdependency of travel topoi and
gender discourse within the medium of wall décor, which conveys the extensive
themes of travel, education and (the experience of) corporeality or movement into

the seemingly private sphere of the residential home in a very complex manner.
Through an exchange between different faculties and disciplines, the workshop
seeks to discuss in what way scenic wallpaper creates a narrative or generates
(pictorial) spatiality and to what extent in the interaction with the observing
subjects, cultural codes of conduct are developed and where knowledge spaces
(which are habitable and can be travelled to) are constructed.
