What to Bring/Prepare
•
Current head shot and resume. (Head shots and resumes should be 8x10 inches. Resumes
should be stapled to the back of the head shot on all four corners.)
•
For appointments, please prepare a short song (1-2 minutes) in the style of the show. Please
bring any additional rep, in case we’d like to hear a second selection. (DANCERS and
APPRENTICES attending the SATURDAY auditions in LEXINGTON may prepare 16-32 bars.)
Accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music.
•
For dance calls and callbacks, please wear form-fitting dance attire. Ladies should bring
character heels and high-heel tap shoes. Gentlemen should bring jazz or character shoes and
tap shoes.
•
If you are called back, you may be asked to prepare material from the show. All sides and
musical selections requested will be available on our website in early March. We will let you
know what to prepare at your initial appointment.
Casting/Contract Offers
•
Final casting decisions and contract offers will not be made until the end of our Audition Tour
(mid-April). After each audition weekend, we will post a list (PDF), on our website, of those
performers who we are strongly considering for the show. (See Casting Breakdown for
information on available roles.)
•
Salary information will be given upon contract offer. The Lex does not provide Actor housing,
with the exception of our Equity contracts. For out-of-town Actors without local housing, a
travel/housing stipend will be provided and we will assist you with finding accommodations.
•
All rehearsals and performances are mandatory. (See Performance/Rehearsal Dates for more
details.)
Rehearsal/Performance Dates
•
Ensemble (Dancers) Rehearsals begin July 8-11. The full Cast (including Equity Principals)
rehearses July 13-22. Performances are July 23-26.
•
Our typical rehearsal day will be 2:00pm-10:00pm. For local Actors with day jobs – if your role
permits - we will try to keep your rehearsals in the 6:00-10:00pm hours. However, the full Cast
should expect to be called for the entire rehearsal day on Friday, July 17; Saturday, July 18;
Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23. Also, the full cast will be called for Tech
rehearsals from 12:00pm-12:00am on Monday, July 20 and Tuesday, July 21.
•
Any conflicts must be submitted on your audition form and approved prior to signing your
contract. (Conflicts may or may not be approved by management and may affect casting. All
rehearsals and performances are mandatory.)
Apprentices
•
Performing Apprentices may audition in LEXINGTON ONLY. You may audition on Saturday,
March 7, at 6:00pm (preferred) or on Saturday, March 14 at 10:00am (for those with conflicts
on the 7th.)
•
Apprentices may be entering high school Freshmen (Fall 2015) through graduating Seniors
(Class of 2015).
•
ALL Apprentices will DANCE first, and should prepare 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the
show, in case you are asked to sing. Please refer to (What to Bring/Prepare), as you will need
all of the items listed there.
•
Apprentices may not be called to every rehearsal, but should take a look at the
Rehearsal/Performance Dates section for an idea of what your schedule might be like.
Apprentices will likely be called when the Ensemble and/or Full Cast is called.
•
Some Apprentices may be cast in only a few scenes/numbers in the show and then may work
backstage (likely as running crew or dressers) for the remainder of the show. Some
Apprentices may be cast in the entire show.
•
Apprentices are NOT paid positions.
Video Submissions
•
We have received some questions regarding video submissions for those who are unable to
attend an audition in person. It is our preference that Actors audition in person, so that we can
explore the full range of your talent. However, if you are unable to attend and would like to be
considered, you may submit a video.
•
Videos should be emailed to [email protected], with the subject line:
VIDEO SUBMISSION – Your Name.
•
Video submissions should contain a slate of your name, where you live and the name of your
song selection. Please sing a 1-2 minute selection in the style of the show. If you dance,
please demonstrate the following:
o Jazz or ballet phrase containing a battement, pirouette, chaine turns, and a leap.
o Tap: time steps, pick-ups, rolling shuffles, shuffle graboffs
•
Please also attach your current resume and headshot to the email with the video submission.
•
You do not need to fill out the online form. We will contact you if we need additional
information.
•
Video Submissions are DUE NO LATER than APRIL 1. We will not consider videos received
after April 1.
