DESIRES AND PLEASURES...
Rendez-vous unique dédié à l’image de mode, le Festival
International de la Photographie de Mode investit pour la
huitième année consécutive, la ville de Cannes, qui devient
à cet effet une véritable galerie d’Art en extérieur.
Des images monumentales s’installent dans toute la ville :
sur la Croisette à Cannes, la rue d’Antibes, comme au cœur de
la palmeraie voisine, la roseraie du port Canto, où est présentée,
comme chaque année, l’œuvre de l’invité d’honneur du Festival
avec une exposition de ses photographies en grand format.
Cette année, le Festival International de la Photographie de mode
est particulièrement heureux d’inviter Jacques OLIVAR grand
photographe de mode dont le travail emprunt d’une particulière
élégance, affirme une grande personnalité.
Dans le même temps, le Palm Beach Casino, partenaire essentiel
de cet événement, accueille sur ses cimaises la sélection 2010
de la création photographique contemporaine. Quatre-vingt-dix
photographes de mode venus de tous les horizons présentent
leurs créations sur tirage papier [1 m x 1,50 m]. Sur la terrasse du
Palm Beach Casino, une sélection de 32 photographies, parmi
l’œuvre de Jacques OLIVAR témoigne de la très grande force de
ses images, tirées sur bâches [3 m x 3 m] et installées sur des
structures rétro éclairés, ainsi l’exposition est visible jour et nuit.
Le jury 2009 du Festival International de la Photographie de
Mode, composé de personnalités du monde de la photographie,
Olivier BENSIMON, directeur artistique, Fred RAWYLER, directeur
artistique, Jean-Luc MONTEROSSO, directeur de la Maison
Européenne de la Photographie à Paris et Eric COLMET DAAGE,
rédacteur en chef du Magazine photo, décernera aux lauréats trois
prix récompensant la créativité, l’imagination et l’audace de leur
composition. Leur aptitude à nous faire rêver.
Le Grand Prix de la Photographie de Mode 2010 pour un auteur
confirmé, le Prix du Jeune Talent de la Photographie de Mode 2010.
Cette année le festival inaugure le prix du Photographe de beauté
2010.
S’émancipant des pages des magazines pour la monumentale
galerie d’exposition en plein air du Festival International de la
Photographie de Mode, la photographie de mode s’épanouit ici
pleinement et s’affirme, séduisante ou provocatrice, au regard du
promeneur, du professionnel ou de l’amateur de mode et d’art
photographique comme véritable création d’auteur et de désir.

The International Festival of Fashion Photography, a unique
rendezvous dedicated to fashion, takes place in Cannes for
its eighth consecutive edition.
Monumental pictures are exhibited in the town: in the
Croisette in Cannes, as in the heart of the neighbouring
palm grove, the Port Canto rose garden where is presented,
as each year, the Festival guest of honour’s work as well as
an exhibition of his/her large format printings.
This year, the International Festival of Fashion Photography
is pleased to invite the great fashion photographer Jacques
OLIVAR whose graceful work indicates a great personality.
In the meantime, the Palm Beach Casino, main partner of
this event, hosts on its cymas the 2010 selection of
contemporary photography creation. Ninety fashion
photographers from different backgrounds present their
creations on 1 m x 1.50 m printings. On the terrace of the
Palm Beach Casino, a selection of 32 photographs among
Jacques OLIVAR’s work shows the great strength of his
pictures, printed on 3 m x 3 m sheets and put on
spotlighted structures, so that the exhibition can be seen
day and night.
The jury of the 2010 edition of the International Festival of
Fashion Photography is composed of key figures belonging to
the world of photography such as Olivier BENSIMON,
artistic director, Fred RAWYLER, artistic director, Jean-Luc
MONTEROSSO, director of The European House of
Photography in Paris, and Eric COLMET DAAGE, Photo
Magazine editor. They will give three awards according to
the creativity, imagination and daring of the artists’ work –
their ability to fire one’s imagination.
The 2010 Fashion Photography Special Prize will be
awarded to a confirmed artist and another 2010 Fashion
Photography Prize will be given to a Young Talent.
This year, the festival will give for the first time the 2010
Beauty Photographer Prize.
Fashion photography, freeing itself from the pages of the
magazines for the monumental open-air exhibition gallery,
fully blossoms and asserts itself as the real creation of an
artist and of desire, whether seductive or provocative, from
the viewpoint of the walkers, the professionals, or the
fashion and art photography amateurs.

AUTOBIOGRAPHIE DE JACQUES OLIVAR
Je suis né à Casablanca, je n’ai connu ni Michael Curtiz, ni
Humphrey Bogart, ni Ingrid Bergman, mais j’ai respiré l’odeur
épicée des souks.
J’ai écouté parler arabe et goûté de leur sagesse. J’ai dormi dans
les grottes d’Aglou. J’ai fait l’école buissonnière pour retrouver
la chaleur des plages dorées de la corniche casablancaise.
Écouté des nuits entières, à la radio, les premiers accords de
cette merveilleuse musique américaine, le rock, si nouvelle, si
fulgurante. Elle semblait avoir parcouru des distances infinies
dans la galaxie, relayée par les antennes des bases aériennes du
nouveau monde stationnant au Maroc, et ceci à des millions
d’années lumières avant d’envahir l’Europe. On m’a enfermé dans
une école, j’ai fait le mur. J’avais 8 ans et on m’a repris. Je me
suis sauvé à 9 ans, à 10 ans, à 11 ans, à onze ans et demi, à 12 ans.
Puis mes parents sont morts et plus personne ne m’a jamais
repris. De ma mère gitane et andalouse, j’ai hérité sa musique,
et de mon père je n’ai rien hérité. Alors je me suis mis en route.
Pendant ce temps, Alfred Hitchcock tournait à Marrakech
« L’homme qui en savait trop » faisant partie de ces chefs
d’œuvre en Technicolor qui m’ont tant inspiré. Icare m’a séduit
en un éclair, mais ses ailes ont fondu au soleil. En chemin, j’ai
rencontré Isabel et nous avons fugué encore une fois. En Crête,
j’ai fait de la musique et traîné sur les plages au sable ocre, vécu
dans des maisons au sommet des monts Olympe avec leur vue
biblique, refait cent et une fois le monde avec mes pareils,
vagabonds de l’arc-en-ciel. Et ni mon fils, ni ma femme, ni
moi-même ne sommes jamais retournés à l’école : zone de
formatage et de clonage universel. J’ai coupé du bois et ramassé
les olives des oliviers millénaires.
Et puis, surtout, Tanger. Son vent d’est, venu du fond de la
Méditerranée, se heurte aux falaises des deux caps et repart
chargé de récits d’espions qui ont fait l’histoire où s’entrecroisent,
dans de mystérieux trafics, des prostituées délicates, des jeunes
gens très beaux, des écrivains illuminés, fous d’indépendance.
Pour le jeune garçon que j’étais, c’est un spectacle inoubliable
qui marque à jamais l’imaginaire adolescent. Les banques
éphémères, casinos et tripots clandestins où l’or des mafias coule
à flots, où la contrebande se frôle à tous les coins de rue, à tous
les coins de ruelle. Où le Levant souffle jusqu’à déraison. Où
s’entrelacent vérités et mensonges sur une vertigineuse trame de tolérance. Il y a eu Jean Genet qui fut enterré
à Larache. Son ami, le brillant et très sombre écrivain Mohammed Choukri. Ainsi que les poètes de la Beat
Generation, Timothy Leary, Jack Kerouac, Peter Orlovsky, Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, Neal Cassady.
Je les ai tous soigneusement rangés dans mes bagages. Puis Paris m’a accueilli chaleureusement, avec tendresse,
en enfant prodigue. J’ai aimé faire des images et Paris les a aimées. De Steinbeck je garde pour mes images les
visages impassibles devant la fatalité. De Tennessee Williams, l’image de la fragilité et de la solitude des gens

du sud. De Dos Passos, son amour pour le récit. De Garcia Lorca, je garde la douleur cuisante de 4 poignards
et des voix qui résonnent sur le Guadalquivir. Sans eux, je n’aurais probablement jamais fait de photographie,
en tous cas, pas de cette façon-là. J’ai photographié des personnes admirables. J’ai travaillé pour des personnes
admirables. J’ai côtoyé tout au long de mon parcours des personnages exceptionnels.
J’ai fugué à 9 ans, à 10 ans, à 11 ans, à onze ans et demi, à 12 ans et, cette fois, on ne m’a jamais repris.

JACQUES OLIVAR’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY
I was born in Casablanca, I never met Michael Curtiz or Humphrey
Bogart, or Ingrid Bergman, but I breathed the spiced smells
of the souks.
I listened to people speaking Arabic and tasted their wisdom. I slept
in the caves of Aglou. I played truant to go and find the heat of the
golden beaches of Casablanca coast. I listened all nights long, at the
radio, to the first notes of this wonderful, new and so meteoric
American music that is rock’ n’ roll. It was as if it had travelled
infinite distances in the galaxy, relayed by the aerials of air bases
of the New World stopping in Morocco, and light years away before
sweeping across Europe. I was locked up into a school, I escaped.
I was eight and I was caught. I run away when I was 9, 10, 11,
eleven and a half, 12. Then my parents died and I was never caught
again. From my Gipsy and Andalusian mother, I inherited her music,
and from my father, I did not inherit anything. So I hit the road.
Meanwhile, Alfred Hitchcock was making a film in Marrakech,
“The Man Who Knew Too Much”, one of the Technicolor masterpieces
which inspired me so much. Icarus seduced me in a flash, but his
wings melted with the sun. On my way, I met Isabel and we escaped
once more. In Crete, I played music and hanged about the ochre sand
beaches, I lived in houses at the top of Olympia mounts and their
biblical views, I tried to solve the world’s problems a hundred of times
with my peers, rainbow wanderers. Neither my son, nor my wife, nor
myself, did go back to school – this universal area of formatting and
cloning. I cut wood and picked up olives of thousand-year-old olive
trees.
Then, such an important place, I went to Tangier. Its east wind,
coming from the bed of the Mediterranean sea, hit the cliffs of the
two capes and blows away, full of stories of spies who made history
where, in funny business, refined prostitutes, very good-looking people,
visionary writers, craving for independence, all meet.
To the young boy I was, it’s an unforgettable sight which marks
forever the adolescent imaginary: the short-lived banks, casinos and
clandestine dives where mafias’ gold flows freely, where you can find
smuggling anywhere. Where the East wind blows until going insane, where truths and lies intertwine in a breathtaking
tolerance system. There was Jean Genet, who was buried in Larache. His friend, the brilliant and sombre writer
Mohammed Choukri. As well as Beat generation poets such as Timothy Leary, Jack Kerouac, Peter Orlovsky, Allen
Ginsberg, William Burroughs, Neal Cassady. I carefully packed them all in my bags. Then, Paris welcomed me, warmly,
tenderly, as the prodigal son. I loved making pictures, and Paris loved them. From Steinbeck, I retain for my pictures
these faces which are impassive in front of fate. From Tennessee Williams, I retain the image of the fragility and
loneliness of Southern people. From Dos Passos, his love for story-telling. From Garcia Lorca, I retain the sharp pain
of 4 stabs and voices which echo on the Guadalquivir River. Without them, I certainly would never have taken pictures,
at least not as I do. I took pictures of wonderful people. All along my career, I met great persons.
I run away when I was 9, 10, 11, eleven and a half, 12 and, this time, I was never caught again.

à la Côte d’Azur, le Palm Beach, lui,
est à l’origine de son élégance et de son
rayonnement. Construit dans le plus pur
style Art déco le Palm Beach, posé tout
contre la mer, fut l’un des plus prestigieux
établissements de jeux de la Riviera. C’est le
cadre rêvé pour recevoir des œuvres vouées
à la beauté, à la grâce et à la fantaisie. Pour
le Festival international de la photographie
de mode, la salle des Colosses, halls et
couloirs ainsi que l’espace de la villa se
transforment en galerie d’art.
La terrasse qui surplombe la mer et la ville
de Cannes est revêtue pour l’événement de
structures cubiques, rétro éclairées, exposant
de façon grandiose les œuvres de l’un des
photographes mis à l’honneur.
If the Côte d’Azur got its color from the
Mediterranean Sea, the Palm Beach Casino is the
origin of its elegance and its reputation. The Palm
Beach Casino was built according to the purest style
of Art Deco, right next to the ocean, and got to be
one of the most prestigious gambling venues of the
Riviera Coast. It is the perfect setting for work
dedicated to beauty, grace and fantasy.
Just for the purpose of the International Festival
of Fashion Photography, the Colosses room, halls
and hallways as well as the Amirauté room will
turn into art galleries.

et la Slovénie. Il travaille dans le domaine de la mode et

Jean-Noël est né à Paris. Il est photographe pour les plus

Jean-Noël was born in Paris and works for the greatest
fashion creators. Besides his photographer activity, he

“The Festival created by Marcel Partouche is one of the
greatest successes of a man who dedicated his whole life to
his passion for photography. Marcel Partouche gave a new
boost to Cannes city in an “ultra-contemporary” way, by
bringing fantastic exhibitions of the new “greatest names”
of photography to the Croisette and the Beach Casino,
each year in July and August.”

works between London, Madrid, Paris and Dubai in the

Né en 1964 en Allemagne. Commence très tôt une carrière
d’artiste peintre puis découvre la photographie. Ses œuvres
ont été exposées dans le monde entier. Il s’est fait un nom
dans l’univers de la mode et de la beauté en travaillant
pour les plus grands créateurs.
« Le festival est un pont entre le monde de la publicité et
celui de la mode, c’est une interface qui connecte deux pôles
généralement assez opposés. C’est une occasion de plus de
montrer mon travail, mais cette fois dans un cadre féérique,
en plein air, dans une atmosphère très particulière. »

He was born in 1964, in Germany. He becomes very early
a painter, before discovering photography. His work was
exhibited all over the world. He made a name for himself
in the world of fashion and beauty by working for the
greatest fashion creators.

are usually quite different. It’s another opportunity to show
my work, this time in a magical, open-air place, and in a
very special atmosphere.”
Pino Leone (Venezuela)
Né en 1961 au Venezuela. Habite en Italie et à Miami
Beach. Il débute sa carrière en tant que photographe
pour l’armée puis se spécialise dans la mode au service
des grands magazines. Il réalise un projet personnel sur
la nudité au sein des volcans.
« Le Festival est un événement très bien organisé, dans un
endroit magnifique. C’est une opportunité formidable de
rencontrer des photographes très talentueux qui viennent
du monde entier. »

He was born in 1961, in Venezuela. He lives both in Italy
and in Miami Beach. First, he works as a photographer for
the army, before specializing in fashion, working for famous
magazines. He makes a personal project about nude among
volcanoes.

Né en Pennsylvanie, Greg Kadel va étudier la biologie
marine et les beaux arts à New York. A l’issue de ses
études, il se découvre une véritable passion pour la
photographie et la réalisation de films. Greg Kadel a
ainsi créé des images qui ont marqué les plus grands
magazines de mode tels que Allure, Harpers’s Bazaar,
i-D, Vogue Italie, Vogue Allemagne, Vogue Japon,
Vogue Chine, mais aussi pour Vogue Homme, Muse,
Visionnaire et Numéro France. Il a également été un
concepteur d’images emblématiques pour des marques
de mode telles que Diane Von Furstenberg, Georges
Rech, Hermès, Lowe, Max Mara, Oscar de la Renta,

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Greg Kadel moved to NY
to study marine biology and fine art. Upon completion of
his studies, he discovered his passion for photography and
film making and for nearly a decade, Greg has been
creating influential images that have graced the pages of
Allure, Harper’s Bazaar, i-D, Italian Vogue, German Vogue,
Japanese Vogue, L’Uomo Vogue, Muse, Numero, Visionaire
and Vogue China. He has also been an image maker for
the likes of Bebe, Biotherm, Diane Von Furstenburg, Elie
Tahari, George Rech, Guilty Brotherhood, Hermes, H&M,
John Richmond, Lancome, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, L’Oreal,
Max Mara, Oscar de la Renta, Salvatore Ferragamo,
Shiseido, St. John, Valentino, and Victoria’s Secret.
His images have been described as “classic with a modern
flair” and he is respected for his unique ability to bring the
best out of his subjects. He currently spends his time
working between New York, Paris and Los Angeles.

Le jury 2010 du Festival International de la Photographie de
Mode, composé de personnalités du monde de la
photographie, Olivier BENSIMON, directeur artistique,

Le Grand Prix de la Photographie de Mode 2010 pour un auteur
confirmé, le Prix du Jeune Talent de la Photographie de Mode
2010. Cette année le festival inaugure le prix de la
Photographie de beauté 2010.

The 2010 jury of the International festival of Fashion
Photography, composed of some key people from the world of
photography, Olivier BENSIMON, artistic director, Fred
RAWYLER, artistic director, Jean-Luc MONTEROSSO, director
of The European House of Photography in Paris, and Eric
COLMET DAAGE, Photo Magazine editor, will give three
awards according to creativity, imagination and daring of the
artists’ work – their ability to fire one’s imagination.
The 2010 Fashion Photography Special Prize will be awarded
to a confirmed artist and another 2010 Fashion Photography
Prize will be given to a Young Talent.
This year, the festival will give for the first time the 2010
Beauty Photographer Prize.

Cette année le 8e Festival International de la
Photographie de Mode s’installera à Cannes
du 15 juin au 25 août 2010 pour permettre à tous
les publicitaires du monde présents à la Semaine
de la Publicité, du 20 au 26 juin 2010, de visiter
les expositions. L’inauguration du Festival aura lieu
le vendredi 25 juin 2010 au Palm Beach Casino.
This year’s 8th International Festival of Fashion
Photography will take place in Cannes from June
15th to August 25th 2010 so as to allow advertisers
worldwide attending the Advertisement Week from
June 20th to June 26th 2010 in Cannes as well,
to come and visit the exhibits. The Festival’s grand
opening will take place on Friday, June 25th
at the Palm Beach Casino.
