Forts d’une expérience de 40 ans dans le domaine de la
ferronnerie, les ateliers Georis ont pu se forger une réputation
qui dépasse largement nos frontières. Fondée au début
des années 60, l’entreprise est aujourd’hui une référence
en matière de chaudronnerie : ensembles mécano-soudés,
pliage et cintrage de tôles, cintrage de profils et de tubes.
Ce savoir-faire lui a valu, il y a quelques années, d’amorcer
un nouveau virage grâce à une collaboration fructueuse avec
le designer Xavier Lust, auteur notamment des modèles
Le Banc et La Grande Table pour l’éditeur de mobilier MDF
Italia. Quelques années après avoir terminé des études
d’architecture d’intérieur à Bruxelles, j’ai développé une
technique de déformation de surfaces qui permet de créer
des volumes novateurs et autoportants, explique le designer.
Ma participation au salon du meuble de Milan, en 2000, a
été un succès et s’est soldée par une collaboration avec des
marques italiennes. C’est en cherchant un atelier capable de
produire ce mobilier que j’ai rencontré la famille Georis. Et les
éditeurs italiens ne se sont pas opposés à ce que la production
se fasse en Belgique, explique Xavier Lust. En effet, aucun
fabricant italien n’était parvenu au niveau de maîtrise et de
savoir-faire obtenu par les ateliers Georis. Réinterprétant ainsi,
sur les conseils du designer, les techniques traditionnelles de
déformation des feuilles métalliques, les ateliers Georis se sont
très vite créés une notoriété dans le monde du design. Nous
ne travaillons qu’avec Xavier Lust, continue Roger Georis,
Directeur. Le courant est tout de suite bien passé (…) Lorsqu’il
a une idée, il nous la soumet, nous en étudions la faisabilité
et fabriquons un prototype. Une fois l’accord passé avec une
société de diffusion, nous pouvons commencer la fabrication
en série. Grâce à lui, nous touchons un nouveau marché
international. Les meubles, insiste encore Roger Georis, sont
réalisés en acier et en aluminium, des matériaux qui peuvent
être refondus et recyclés. De cette collaboration inattendue
est donc née une nouvelle conception des produits ainsi
qu’une nouvelle finalité au savoir-faire des ouvriers spécialisés.
Au-delà d’une répercussion commerciale et médiatique, un
regain de motivation du personnel a été clairement remarqué
par la direction. Entre le pliage de tôle et le produit fini, la
satisfaction est au rendez-vous.
Drawing from its experience of 40 years in the ironworks
business, the Georis workshops have been able to forge a
reputation which goes way beyond our borders. Founded at
the beginning of the 60's, the company is today a reference as
far as boilermaking is concerned : mechanically-welded units,
folding and bending of sheet metal, the bending of sections
and tubes. This know how enabled it, a few years ago, to begin
a new direction thanks to a profitable collaboration between
the designer Xavier Lust, responsible notably for the models
Le Banc and La Grande Table for the furniture producer MDF
Italia. A few years after having finished studying interior design
in Brussels, I developed a technique for the deformation of
surfaces which enables you to create self standing innovative
volumes, explains the designer. My participation at the
furniture fair in Milan, in 2000, was a success and ended in
collaboration with Italian brands. It was when looking for a
workshop capable of producing this furniture that I met with
the Georis family. And the Italian producers weren’t against
the fact that the production would take place in Belgium
explains Xavier Lust. In fact, no Italian manufacturer had come
close to the level of perfection and know how of the Georis
workshops. Reinterpreting the traditional techniques of sheet
metal deformation following the advice of the designer, the
Georis workshops very soon created a notoriety in the design
world. We only work with Xavier Lust, continues Roger Georis,
Director. There were good vibes between us from the start
(…) Whenever he has an idea, he hands it to us, we study the
feasibility and make a prototype. Once the go-ahead has been
given by the distribution company, we can start manufacturing
a series. Thanks to him, we reach a new international market.
The furniture insists Roger Georis, is made out of steel and
aluminium, materials which can be recast and recycled. Out of
this unexpected collaboration, a new conception of products
was born as well as a new purpose for the know how of
the specialist workforce. Beyond any commercial or media
repercussions, a revival in the motivation of the personnel has
clearly been noted by the management. Between the bending
of sheet metal and the finished product, there’s a rendez-vous
with satisfaction.
