CHER BRUsselaar, stay human!
2011. Lors de mon séjour aux
États-Unis pour un doctorat en “Sciences
Politiques et Relations Internationales”,
je dédie mon temps libre à monter les
images du projet “Nice Meeting You”.
2011. During my stay in the
US for a PhD in “Political Science and
International Relations”, I spend my spare
time editing the raw images of a project
called “Nice Meeting You”.
NMY est un projet de coopération
internationale qui avait amené 10
volontaires Italiens - plus un videomaker! à passer 2 semaines (été 2010) auprès du
champ de réfugiés Palestiniens de Bourj
El Barajneh, banlieue-sud de Beirut, Liban.
NMY is a project of international
cooperation that had given 10 Italian
volunteers - plus a videomaker! - the
chance of spending 2 weeks (summer
2010) at the Palestinian refugee camp of
Bourj El Barajneh, south-Beirut, Lebanon.
Une des rares réponses à mes
tentatives de promouvoir l’initiative
arrive de Vittorio Arrigoni, un journalisteactiviste qui - à l’époque et depuis 2 ans
- se trouve dans la Bande de Gaza pour
donner un témoignage du drame - en
termes de vie réelle - de ses habitants.
Personnage pittoresque et militant,
Vik parle d’utopie, son blog est la principale
(seul!) source d’information indépendante
de dedans l’opération “Plomb durci”.
I write to many people to get the
initiative noticed, one of the very few
answers arrives from Vittorio Arrigoni, a
reporter-activist that - at that time for 2
years - has lived in the Gaza Strip to testify
the dramatic livelihood to which the locals
are forced on a daily basis.
Vittorio ‘Vik’ is a picturesque and
committed utopian. During the operation
“Cast lead”, his blog is one of the main
(only!) independent source of information.

comme forme d’échange: l’échange

His email encourages me to continue
telling people’s essence and suffering,
to speak of what keeps them together
beyond what keeps them separated, to see
sharing as a form of caring and exchange:
exchange as a form of knowledge.
Quelques semaines après, Vik est
kidnappé par un groupe salafiste, qui veut
que Hamas libère un de ses leaders.
A few weeks later, Vik is kidnapped
by a Salafi group, that claims the liberation
of one of its leaders by Hamas.
Il est exécuté le 15 avril 2011.
A’ 36 ans.
He is executed the 15 of April 2011.
He was 36.
“STAY HUMAN” était son devise.
“STAY HUMAN” was his motto.

Avec la puissance de son travail, des
inoubliables bandes sonores d'un copain
d'école, du rêve de penser à nouveau les
différentes cultures de travail, il entra dans
l'histoire du cinéma européen.
With the strength of his work, his
schoolmate's unforgettable soundtracks,
and the dream of rethinking relations
between different cultures of work, he
entered the history of European cinema.

Le projet s’adresse à petits groupes
(3-5) de jeunes d’Anderlecht et vise à
leur apprendre des notions basiques
de videomaking via smartphone.
Ça leur permettra de raccolter les
temoignages des habitants les plus
âgés à propos des transformations du
quartier dans les derniers 50 ans.
The project addresses small groups
(3-5) of teenagers from Anderlecht
and aims at teaching them basic notions of videomaking via smartphone.
The acquired skills will allow them
to collect the point of view of the older
generations with respect to the last 50
years of change in the neighborhood.
Un site web organisera le matériel
filmé en archive historique de la vie
du quartier et de la ville en générale.
A website will turn the raw material in a digital historical archive of the
city’s life and transformations.
Sous réserve de disponibilité de
fonds additionnels, les images seront
aussi utilisé par Slash Prod pour produire un documentaire professionnel
de 15-30 minutes et d’autre matériel
promotionnel pour favoriser la diffusion, l’impact et la libre réplique de
l’initiative.
Subject to availability of additional
funds, the raw footage will allow Slash
Prod to edit a professional 15/30-min
documentary of the initiative and additional communication with the goal
of promoting the circulation, the impact, and the copyright-free replica of
the project.

MOTIFS
Pour les jeunes d'Europe, la gare du Midi est le
point d'arrivée low cost de
la capital du continent, pour
beaucoup de bruxellois(es)
c'est le départ vers Paris ou
Londres.
Pour certes ce qu'il y a
au-de-lá peut toujours être
exploité, pour certains autres
c'est quelque chose que on
a envie de découvrir à travers la médiation de l'art, du
sport, des coutumes, au lieu
de celle-là des rhétoriques et
des filtres.
For young European professionals, Midi station is the
low cost arrival to the capital
of the continent, for many
people who live in Brussels
it is the departure to Paris or
London.
For some, what is beyond the station can always
become a real estate exploitation, for others what
is beyond can be discovered
thanks to the mediation of
arts, sport, and habits, rather than rhetorics and filters.
Communautés turques
et marocaines ont rempli
les maison en briques rouges des familles de mineurs
italiens mais la logique des
préjugés et de la faute de
rencontre parfois croise les
générations.
Turkish and Moroccan
communities have filled the
red brick buildings where the
families of Italian miners used
to live, but the logic of biases and the lack of encounter
can cross generations.
Le projet vise à donner à des personnes, jeunes
et moins jeunes, des instruments pour pouvoir raconter
eux mêmes, sans filtres, l'histoire de leur quartier.
Pour que ça raconte le
présent de cette ville.
Ça serait déjà un bon
résultat.
The project aims at giving
young and less young people concrete tools that allow
them to tell themselves, out
of filters, the neighborhood
history.
For this history would tell
the present of this city.
That would be a great
achievement already.

Dans une ville complexe
et moderne, telle que la capitale belge et de l’Europe,
plusieurs identités cohabitent, souvent sur une base
d’indifférence mutuelle.
In a complex modern city,
such as the capital of Belgium and Europe, multiple
identities live together, most
of the times on the basis of a
mutual indifference.
La vidéo est aujourd'hui
l'instrument le plus puissant
pour raconter - à travers un
univers numérique - la vie
au-de-là du numérique.
Si le noyaux de ce projet
de communication se trouve
à Anderlecht, ses motivations
et objectif principal est de
(re)joindre gens au-de-là de
toute barrière géographique,
sociale et culturelle.
Videomaking is the most
powerful instrument to talk
- within today digital environment - about life beyond
the digital world.
If the core of this communication project lies in
Anderlecht, its motivations
and main goal is to reach and
connect people beyond any
geographical, social and cultural division line.
Une grande partie du
travail préparatoire visera à
construire un réseaux inclusif, développer partenariats
dans toute la ville, repérer
idées, ressources et fonds
supplémentaires pour garantir un travail de production et diffusion de qualité.
Most of the preparatory
work will target the establishment of an inclusive network, the development of
partnerships, the finding of
ideas, resources, and extra
funds to guarantee the best
quality work of production
and dissemination.

est aujourd'hui possible et
atteindra ses objectifs, à
n'importe quel prix en termes de travail.
Following a public call for
projects by the King Baudoin Foundation, and thanks to
the generosity of the Alain
de Pauw funds, the project
"Once Upon a Time in Anderlecht" is now on track and
will reach its goals, no matter how much work this will
take.
Pourtant, la communication, surtout la communication sociale, ne connaît
pas de formules magiques: sa
visibilité et son impact social
sont fort liés aux ressources
- humaines, relationnelles,
aussi que financières - que
l'ensemble des acteurs en jeu
est capable de déployer.
Nonetheless, communication, in particular social communication, knows no magic
words: the visibility and the
impact of it are intertwined
with the - human, relational,
as well as financial - resources that the whole of stakeholders is capable of deploying.
