The past few days have helped remind us that summer is within our reach. It is hard to believe we are on the
last two months of the 2015-16 school year. With approximately 40 days of school left there will be many
days of review, final projects, field trips, special events, etc. With the warmer weather brings soccer,
lacrosse and baseball season. It may be hard for some students to remain focused so we ask your assistance
to ensure students are concentrating on school through to the last week.
April was certainly another busy month at Notre Dame. We are so proud of the many accomplishments
celebrated by our extremely gifted and talented students such as:

-performing One Act’s Competition at LTCHS
-17 badminton players advancing to Provincials

-Annual Grad Service Project
Congratulations to everyone involved in these outstanding achievements.
If your son or daughter will be employed this summer, please have them consider signing up for Notre
Dame’s Summer School Work Experience beginning mid-May. Students can earn one (1) credit for every
25 hours worked this summer. St. Gabriel’s Online School also offers a number of online courses that can
be taken over the summer. More information is available in this newsletter.
With Graduation only weeks away, it is essential for our Grade 12 students to ensure they are keeping up
with their studies and have confirmed grad requirements with the career advisory team. Please refer to the
Graduation tab, on our school website, for the dates of upcoming events, especially the Grad Mass at St.
Mary’s on June 5th at 4:00 pm and Grad Rehearsal on June 29th at 4:00 pm.
We also invite everyone to join us in the Fine Arts Room on May 5 th and 6th for the final performance of our
One Act Plays and to our final School Council Meeting on Monday, May 16 th at 7:00 pm.
May is the month when Catholics traditionally focus on Mary, the Mother of Jesus. The practice dates back
at least 700 years and is still observed around the world today. May is seen as the beginning of new life and
the start of summer, which makes this a logical time for the celebrations of Mary, who brought life into the
world. May is also the month we celebrate the love our Mothers have for us.
Watch our website for detailed information on a Cancer Fundraiser coming up in May.
Take time during these busy months to enjoy time with family and friends.
God bless,
Rose McQuay

Fine Arts
Our exciting school year is wrapping up quickly, but we have many more
Fine Arts events to invite you to:
Glimpse will be showing at the Hub on Ross (4936 Ross St. Red Deer)
for the month of May. Glimpse is the name of this year's student Art
show. Join us on May 6 from 4:30 - 6:00 pm for a come and go
reception at the Hub, to kick off the visual art show. The small gallery at
the Hub will feature a selection of some of the best-of-the-best student
visual art from Notre Dame.
The annual Zones One Act Festival was held on April 27-30, at Lindsay
Thurber High School. Join us for the One Act Performances at Notre
Dame: May 5 and 6 at 6:30 pm. Pay what you can donations at the
door, with proceeds going to our Grad Service Project (Parkland
School).
Congratulations to Mr. Brehaut, Miss Ornella and their very talented
band students. Both the Concert and Jazz bands received scores of
Superior (the highest possible score) and won first place in their
categories at the Kiwanis Musical Festival in April. The concert band's
next performance is at the Alberta Band Association Festival at the Red
Deer College on May 19 at 10:30 am. This performance is open to the
public.
You can enjoy the musical talents of our concert band, jazz band and
choir at their year end concert, at the Red Deer College Main Stage
on June 6 at 7:00 pm. Free Admission. All are welcome!
Spring Evening of the Arts is on May 10. Join us, at 6:30 pm in the
Notre Dame Gathering Area, and enjoy a taste of all our Fine Arts
disciplines: jazz band, visual art, choral, dance and drama.
Free Admission and all are welcome.
