Résumé des fonctions
Sous la supervision de la directrice adjointe au premier cycle, le/la titulaire du poste est responsable
de : la coordination de l'ensemble des laboratoires de premier cycle relié à la biomécanique, ainsi qu’à
l’apprentissage et contrôle moteur; la supervision des expérimentations et de l’adaptation de celles-ci
aux exigences de programme de l’École ; s’assurer que les démonstrations et les travaux dirigés sont
courants et solides sur les plans scientifique et pédagogique. Enseigner aux démonstrateurs,
démonstratrices, étudiants et étudiantes les pratiques sécuritaires propres au milieu des laboratoires.
S’assurer que les démonstrateurs et démonstratrices respectent les lois régissant le SIMDUT et la santé
et sécurité au travail.
ƒ Connaissances en sciences de l’activité physique normalement acquises au moyen de formation
universitaire (maîtrise minimum)
ƒ Connaissances et expériences étendues des protocoles et procédures de laboratoires
ƒ Capacité à communiquer de façon claire et précise des procédures et des concepts complexes

Expérience dans l’utilisation de systèmes informatiques et des logiciels tells que Windows, traitement
de textes, tableurs, bases de données, courriel et Internet, etc.…

Fortes aptitudes en relation interpersonnelle

Bilinguisme (expression orale et écrite)
ƒ Comme le titulaire de ce poste sera responsable d’assurer que les expériences proposées fonctionnent
dans une atmosphère d’enseignement de laboratoire, il/elle doit être en mesure d’intégrer
l’équipement et les installations existantes et l’enseignement des méthodologies scientifiques qui
permettent aux étudiants une expérience d’apprentissage adaptée et complémentaire à la partie
théorique du cours.

ƒ Doit être en mesure d’analyser les expériences qui ne fonctionnent pas, identifier les problèmes et les
résoudre tout en maintenant la validité du travail expérimental tant du point de vue d’enseignement
que scientifique.

Doit être Physiologiste de l’exercice certifié selon les critères de la Société canadienne de
physiologie de l’exercice (SCPE); Doit maintenir cette certification en accord avec les règlements de
la SCPE pendant la durée du contrat

More specifically, the incumbent
1. Coordinates the day-to-day operations of assigned teaching laboratories.
2. Must be available to professors during lab operation to coach and respond to students’ questions
and problems.
3. Coaches and supervises graduate student demonstrators and the laboratory facilitators involved
with undergraduate laboratories
4. Oversees the testing of new experiments to ensure that they work and meet the intended
pedagogical objectives.
5. In consultation with professors, develops experiments which demonstrate important concepts
and ensures congruence between lectures and lab materials.
6. Maintains and updates the laboratory manuals.
7. Creates, maintains and updates a departmental web page for undergraduate laboratories and for
general management of laboratory logistics
8. Manages teaching resources by maintaining and ordering essential laboratory equipment and
supplies.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
I.
Laboratory instruction activities (80%)
1. Teaching theory of an introductory laboratory course (3 credits- 12.5 weeks of theory: 3 h
lecturing, 2.5 h preparation, 3 h marking), in addition to practical laboratory sections of that
course and other upper year courses. The laboratory sections include preparation (content and
communication of equipment needs), lecturing and marking (20 weeks of labs: approximately 6
h lecturing, 3 h preparation and 6h marking).
2. Coordinates the day-to-day operation of all course laboratories in both English and French. This
includes the coaching and supervision of student demonstrators, planning demonstrations for the
school year as well as offering remedial instruction to student demonstrators and professors
where needed.
3. In consultation with professors, develops experiments which demonstrate important concepts
and ensures congruence between lecture and lab materials.
4. Oversees the testing of new experiments to ensure that they work, meet the intended
pedagogical objectives, are feasible with the existing installation and equipment and are
repeatable by students according to their level of knowledge of the discipline. Corrects existing
experiments which are not working properly.
5. Creates and maintains laboratory manuals, incorporates suggested and required changes,
updates information as necessary, ensures format consistency for new and existing labs.
Oversees the complete re-organization of lab manuals as required by curriculum changes.
6. Reviews and edits the laboratory manuals in conjunction with the professors: proofreads and
corrects the language and the technical phraseology of the laboratory manuals. Updates these
manuals at regular intervals.
7. Creates, maintains and updates laboratory course web pages to allow students and professors
access to electronic information such as lab protocols, lab schedules and equipment loans.
8. Supervises and assures proper training of part-time support staff involved with laboratory
activities.

9. Coordinates (with the Office of Undergraduate Programs, Academic Secretariat) and conducts the
1st and 2nd year human kinetics presentations for all visiting tours, open houses and the
University of Ottawa Day.
II.
Consulting and advising duties (10%)
1. Must be available to professors during lab operation to coach and respond to students’ questions
and problems. Must establish office hours outside of lab-time to respond to student/professors
questions and concerns.
2. Participates in monthly meetings with professors teaching labs to ensure an efficient coordination
of laboratory activities and to oversee possible problems.
3. Provides recommendations to the lab committee relating to the allocation of resources and the
planning of purchases.
4. Recommends the purchase of new equipment to the Lab Committee, to the Faculty Manager,
Computing and Technical Support and to the Assistant Director of Human Kinetics.
III. Other duties (10%)
1. Ensures laboratories are conducted according to safety and health standards.
2. Works closely with all members of the School to organize laboratories and laboratory teaching
materials.
3. Coordinates the maintenance of the equipment.
4. Supervises students that are responsible for the loan and maintenance of equipment.
5. Performs any other tasks requested/delegated by the Assistant Directors, Undergraduate and
Graduate Studies.
