IBM Watson Technologies for Natural Language Processing Project-­‐course for third-­‐year Polytechnique students Organizers: Leo Liberti (X), Josiane Gain (IBM France) Supervisors: Olivier Barrot (IBM France), Léa Deleris (IBM Research) IBM Watson was announced in 2014 as the first commercial platform for cognitive computing. This description is both an overstatement and a simplification. Watson is an ecosystem of methods for Natural Language Processing (NLP) packaged into a software framework (called BlueMix) which makes it relatively easy to use them. Watson provides some very innovative primitive functionalities for producing software with natural language analysis capabilities. This project-­‐course will take place over a period of six months starting September 2015, and will be supervised by two IBM affiliated supervisors who work with Watson Technologies with a variety of industrial clients. Students will work in groups, and will be evaluated based on the presentation of a report about the work carried out during the project. Plus précisément, Watson est un écosystème d'environnements et de méthodes de programmation cognitives incluant le traitement du langage naturel (Natural Language Processing) et disponible par l’intermédiaire d’une plateforme Cloud de construction d'applications à base de microservices (appelée BlueMix). Watson fournit plusieurs fonctionnalités élémentaires pouvant être assemblées afin de créer des solutions plus élaborées (assistant virtuel, analyse sémantique, machine learning, analyse et exploration de données non structurées). Ce cours de projet se déroulera sur une période de six mois à partir de septembre 2015, et sera supervisé par deux collaborateurs IBM qui intègrent les Technologies Watson au sein de clients industriels de différents secteurs. Les élèves travailleront en groupes et seront évalués sur la base de la présentation d'un rapport sur le travail effectué au cours du projet.
