TOTAL RESPECT - TJENBÉ RÈD FÉDÉRATION (Federation rooted in the AfroCaribbean communities fighting against all forms of racism, homphobia
and AIDS) celebrates the memory of Henri Maurel, former activist
for the rights of LGBT people (lesbian, gay, bi- and trans-sexual)
who died on Wednesday [1].
He turned into a music station the radio ‘‘Fréquence gaie’’,
which was previously an instrument of personal and collective liberation
for numerous LGBT people at the end of the 80s and start of the 90s
(the famous “Lune de fiel” - Bitter Moon - broadcast, hosted by David & Zaza,
resulted in weekly commentaries in a great many high schools schoolyards
in France).
However, in 1985, Henri Maurel also created a club, ‘‘Les Gais
pour les libertés’’ (Gays for Freedom), which soon was defending the idea
of civil partnerships for heterosexual and homosexual couples, setting out
the basis for the future PACS (civil solidarity pacts)
