Monique Delamare Managing Director TIGF SA TIGF has expertise centred around two sectors : Gas Transport and Storage. TIGF is a company with a staff of 582 based in South-West France for the last 70 years, whose head office, "Espace Volta", is located in Pau. At the heart of the interconnections between France and Spain, half-way between the North Sea gas reserves and those in Algeria, TIGF occupies a strategic position in Europe. TIGF views its gas transport and storage activity from a perspective of ongoing improvement of the services offered to its customers. transport The Transport activity allows shipper customers to send volumes of natural gas from one point on the grid to another. The gas can be used directly in the area by the public distribution networks or by industrial customers connected directly to the grid. It can also simply transit through the local TIGF area to be consumed elsewhere. As a gas transmission operator, TIGF is bound to provide a public utility service (OSP decree of 19 March 2004). While transport consists schematically of collecting natural gas at the grid source and routing it to a designated user, flow control requires specific methodology. Orchestrated from Pau, the gas movements involved are based on a detailed daily weather forecast, and also on consumption logs. storage TIGF operates two underground natural gas storage facilities on the Lussagnet and Izaute sites. Both underground storage sites hold almost one quarter of the underground natural gas storage capacity in France. They supply the entire TIGF grid along with a portion of the other French grids. Due to their geographic position, Lussagnet and Izaute are at the junction of Southern European gas trade. Injected into the storage facilities during the summer, natural gas is then extracted during the wintertime to supply consumers. Storage thus makes to possible to ensure continuity of supply, while providing any extra gas required to cover users’ needs at all times. Highlights of 2015 February a new shareholder for TIGF: Predica (Crédit Agricole Assurances) March first biomethane connection and injection contract April Trading Region South (TRS) June TIGF celebrates 10 years and 70 years in the Transport sector November first injection of biomethane December gas connection of Artère de l’Adour pipeline biomethane Biomethane is a gas with similar characteristics to natural gas, produced by recycling household, organic or agricultural waste and sewage treatment plant sludge. In December 2015, TIGF, with a key role in the development of this new sector, commissioned the Biovilleneuvois injection station in Lot et Garonne, capable of injecting 595 m3(n)/hr into its Transport grid, which is the largest biomethane injection capacity in France to date. In this way, TIGF is positioning itself as a major player in the French biomethane sector, through its ability to mobilise technical and commercial entities for the benefit of injection project initiators. Moreover, six further projects are at the study stage, and will come to fruition from 2017. The gas sector is evolving and this change should be used as an opportunity to progress in our business lines. Gas has an important role to play in this transition as it is a non-toxic form of energy (...). It is a natural partner in the development of renewable energies which, by their very nature, are intermittent, without pitting energies against each other.
