2016 LOCAL RULES AND CONDITIONS OF COMPETITION FOR RIVERMEAD TOURNAMENTS Play is governed by the 2016 Rules of Golf of Golf Canada and, where applicable, by the following Local Rules and Conditions of the Competition, subject to changes, additions or deletions for particular tournaments by the Play Committee. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, THE PENALTY FOR BREACH OF A LOCAL RULE OR CONDITION OF COMPETITION IS: MATCH PLAY — LOSS OF HOLE • STROKE PLAY — TWO STROKES LOCAL RULES OUT OF BOUNDS is defined inside the course by white stakes. All fences bordering the course are considered to be boundary fences unless otherwise marked. RIVERMEAD ROAD – On holes #1, # 2 and 3, the metal stakes are considered to be an immovable obstruction, not a boundary fence, and relief may be taken for swing and stance , but not for the line of sight of the intended shot. (Rule 24-2) GROUND UNDER REPAIR is defined by white lines. Fire ant hills and French drains are deemed to be ground under repair. Maintenance staff may from time to time use other signs to define temporary ground under repair. If a player's ball lies in such an area or if such an area interferes with a player's stance, he may take relief. Other areas may be marked with stakes and rope; they then define a maintenance area where a mandatory drop is required, no closer to the green and without any penalty. For example, this could include recently installed sod, etc. Tree and grass nurseries, young trees clearly marked as such and flowerbeds as well as freshly planted and newly sodded turf are areas where a player MUST take full relief. Where a swinging club might cause damage to trees that are staked, marked or "guy-wired", the player MUST lift and drop the ball, without penalty, not nearer the hole at the closest place to avoid such damage. EMBEDDED BALL THROUGH THE GREEN — Through the green (on fairways and in the rough), a ball that is embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground, other than sand, may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole. When dropped, the ball must first strike a part of the course through the green. STONES IN BUNKERS are movable obstructions (Rule 24-1 applies). DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES are allowed for use, provided they measure distance only but no other conditions that might affect play (e.g., gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc.) See Rule 14-3.
