CA Performance Optimizer
At a Glance
The IT infrastructure is the backbone of your enterprise, touching nearly every facet of your business. Failure of your
critical systems introduces tremendous business risk yet designing, sizing, implementing and maintaining dependable,
high performance architectures has been a costly challenge until now. Without insight into performance and capacity,
it is impossible to budget effectively and guarantee service levels to the business. CA Performance Optimizer helps to
establish realistic end-to-end performance goals across the enterprise and to set budgets appropriately to meet the
needs of the business.
Key Benefits/Results
CA Performance Optimizer solution
provides insight into the performance of
your mission-critical business applications
allowing you to:
• Identify “time to live” for infrastructure.
• Predict performance and capacity bottlenecks.
• Compare different architecture and
infrastructure alternatives to find the
optimal configuration.
• Leverage load test data to understand how
applications will perform in full production.
Key Features
Solution Kits from CA Performance Optimizer
provide hundreds of integrated reports,
allowing you to communicate results,
forecasts and insights to stakeholders in
business terms. CA Performance Optimizer
provides detailed end-to-end insight for:
• Design stage modeling.
• Migrations from test to production.
• Component throughput in complex
environments such as SAP.
• The impact of shared storage, servers or
network on applications and user experience.
• Data center relocations.
• Modeling system utilization prior
to deployment.
• Transaction volume analysis, including thread
utilization and response time breakdown.
Business Challenges
Lack of insight when moving from test to production
Load testing is a key component of mission critical product releases and most
organizations apply this type of testing as the final checkpoint before applications are
deployed in the production environment. Due to limitations of time, finances and
resources, guesswork comes into play when trying to determine the most effective
configuration for the test environment in addition to extrapolating from the selected
test results the optimal build for the final production configuration. In today’s cost
conscious environment, IT is being forced to provide better answers, decrease the
guesswork and deliver defensible results all while mitigating overall costs associated
with their test and production infrastructure. IT groups are often required to create test
environments that are small subsets of production, with limited infrastructure and
workload data. The differences between these environment can mask the actual
performance that will be experienced in production creating a lack of performance and
capacity transparency when moving into full production.
Solution Overview
CA Performance Optimizer (part of the CA Capacity Management solution suite) allows
users to leverage the data generated by monitoring or load testing solutions for the creation
of “models” that accurately portray how the application will behave as change is applied.
The solution is designed to identify bottlenecks and illustrate parts of the infrastructure
that are over-provisioned and can be safely consolidated; while providing answers to your
questions on response time, integration, infrastructure and risk. CA Performance Optimizer
allows you to model your application’s architecture, infrastructure, workload and resource
needs during the requirements and design stage, providing the opportunity to make
changes in application development when it’s easier and more economical. Whether in test
or production, CA Performance Optimizer provides your architects and IT management a
detailed view of end-to-end application performance, including transaction and network
component level data and the solution’s predictive modeling allows users to simulate all
the behaviors of the applications and infrastructure, providing exceptional insight into
performance operations without the time and expense associated with creating a test
environment that exactly mirrors production.

Related Products/Solutions
Once a CA Performance Optimizer model
is created, there are nearly limitless
opportunities to apply “what-if” scenarios
to it. If you want to know what happens
when workload increases dramatically,
CA Performance Optimizer can accurately
predict the impact of change on your
applications and performance, and the impact
of those changes on “time to live”. If you are
considering consolidation, virtualization or a
change in hardware, you can create scenarios
to determine in advance how applications will
perform without adding risk to your production
environments. CA Performance Optimizer’s
library of over 7000 infrastructure components
allows for the creation of complex models and
execution of simulations and what-if scenarios.
CA Capacity Management Suite, of which
CA Performance Optimizer is part of, uniquely
provides advanced salability and capacity
analysis with end-to-end, cross-enterprise
support and capabilities in order to provide
the prescriptive insight needed to make
informed business decisions:
CA Virtual Placement Manager.
Prescriptions for workload assignments and
virtual machine right-sizing.
CA Capacity Manager. Wizard-based
“what if” scenarios provide informed
decision support.
CA Current Capacity Reporter.
Consumption and utilization reporting.
CA Capacity Command Center. Capacity
dashboard and automated resource scoring.
