Monsieur le maire Iveson,
Membres de la communauté,
Amis de la francophonie albertaine,
Bonjour!
Au nom de l’ACFA, je me réjouis d’être parmi vous pour cette cérémonie du Lever du
drapeau franco-albertain afin d’entamer les célébrations entourant les Rendez-vous de la
Francophonie.
La francophonie a toujours occupé une place de choix à Edmonton. Nous avons la
magnifique Cité francophone qui favorise nos rassemblements, le Campus Saint-Jean, un
centre de santé bilingue, de nombreuses écoles francophones et d’immersion française,
et nous avons désormais un Quartier francophone!
I would like to take the opportunity to thank Mayor Iveson. I must say that we really
appreciate that the city of Edmonton has agreed to let the Franco-Albertan flag fly over
Edmonton’s City Hall for the duration of “Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie”, from
March 7 to 23. For us this is an important symbol showing the place and the importance
of “La Francophonie” in this city. We had a wonderful relationship with your
predecessor, mayor Mandel, and following the meeting we had two weeks ago, I am
convinced that we will continue to build a constructive relationship between the City of
Edmonton and Alberta’s Francophonie. I reiterate the commitment of the ACFA to be a
partner of the City to ensure access to French-language services for French-speaking
Edmontonians.
Aujourd’hui, nous avons l’opportunité de hisser bien haut notre drapeau et de teinter le
ciel albertain de bleu, blanc et rose. C’est un moment pour s’affirmer fièrement et
démontrer une communauté francophone forte en Alberta. Profitez bien des Rendezvous de la Francophonie et bonnes célébrations!
