Mining Claim # SO 1150869 (100 acres)
A quartz vein is located a few hundred feet north
of the north shore of Quinlan Lake.
ACCESS
Access to the property is via Highway 62, north from the
village of Madoc to the village of Bannockburn. Turn east to the
hamlet of Cooper. At Cooper, turn north and proceed on the gravel
road for 5.2 km, then continue north on a single lane gravel road
for 475m. Park before the creek. Cross the creek and proceed to
the showing on the ATV trail (appoximately 600m). The ATV trail
goes directly to the occurrence.
MINERALIZATION
A quartz vein located a few hundred feet north of the north
shore of Quinlan Lake has been intermittently exposed by
overburden stripping and a few bedrock pits for 112 metres. The
quartz vein is 10 to 20 feet wide at surface. Contacts of the quartz
vein are not presently exposed. The quartz vein is open along
strike. The extent of mineralization within the quartz vein cannot
be presently determined due to limited bedrock exposure.
Overburden in the vicinity of the quartz vein is shallow; less than a
few feet. Malachite staining is common in the quartz vein. Sulfides
are not abundant in the quartz vein. Maximum observed sulfide
concentration was approximately 10 96 by volume. Sulfide grain size
ranges from fine grains to large blebs up to 1.5cm in diameter.
Hematite staining is common within the quartz. Dingman (1986)
documents a second, smaller quartz vein parallel to the larger vein.
This second vein is located 25m west of the larger vein. Only the
larger vein was examined by the author.
PAST EXPLORATION WORK
No record was found describing the previous intermittent
overburden stripping.
A grab sample collected from the quartz vein by Lumbers
assayed 0.08 ounce per ton gold and trace silver (ODM Geological
Report 67, 1969, p. 68).
The average of nine grab samples collected by Dingman was
671 ppb, with the highest being 3800 ppb (assays by OGS;
Assessment File 63.4869, Toronto, 1986). Dingman does not give
sample descriptions. Dingman documents an assay of 0.18 ounce
per ton gold in his report.
PRESENT WORK
Late in the summer of 1992, the occurrence was visited by O.
Bolton, L. Landsborough and the author. The large quartz vein was
located, examined and several grab samples were taken. In total,
half a day was spent on the claim.

Sample analysis was done by Barringer Laboratories,
Mississauga, Ontario. Assays were by Gold Fire Assay FA/AA, 2
assay ton, 60 gram sample size.
Sample locations are shown on the attached sketch map.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The quartz vein should be overburden stripped and washed
with a high pressure water pump. Subsequently, the vein should be
thoroughly sampled. Samples should be analyzed for gold and
copper. Geological mapping and humus sampling might disclose
other mineralized areas on the property.
