(english version) The present thesis work shows the result of a study on the protective effectiveness of the defense on a typical low coast of the Adriatic shoreline. This study was developed by means of many experimental tests performed in the hydraulic laboratory of the Università Politecnica delle Marche of Ancone in Italy. The main objective of this study is to compare, in terms of the morpho-dynamic evolution of the crosshore profile of the movable sandy bed, the different rubble-mound breakwater configurations (emerged and submerged) while changing the conditions of extreme wave motion incident the beach. The development of this study has led to execute a campaign of experimental tests on a physical model with movable bed and reduced scale of a cross section of an existing protected beach; in particular that one of Gabicce Mare. For this purpose, specific wave stimulations were made after changing the crosshore profile of the beach due to the various configurations of coastal protection works in the wave flume of the cited laboratory. Some of the highest recorded wave storms measured around the marine coast of Gabicce were chosen to simulate the extreme wave events. In addition, an extreme hypothetic wave was created in order to facilitate the comparison between the various studied configurations. In the physical model, a particular focus was provided to the issues related to the reproduction in scale of the features of the beach sediment material present on the prototype, adopted for the so-called movable bed of the model, in order to guarantee an adequate representation of the effects of the cross-sectional solid transport, of the coastal dynamics and of the morphologic evolution of the seabed of the prototype. Thus, the first chapters of this research thesis were dedicated to the introduction of the general issues of the coastal systems, the physical hydraulic modeling and the solid coastal transportation. The chapters that follow tackle the issue of themes relative to the analysis of the beach of Gabicce Mare, the different phases of accomplishment of the physical movable bed model, the description of the performed tests and finally the analysis of the obtained results. With reference to this, results on the morpho-dynamic variations of the profile and on the elaboration of the values acquired from the wave gauges were obtained from the collected data. These wave gauges measure the development of wave motion and of the mean water level along the flume for the several hydrodynamic conditions and configurations used for the tests.
