UNIT OF INQUIRY—Grade Five How the world works October 30 —December, 2015 Lines of Inquiry: An inquiry into: 1) The different forces of nature. 2) The causes of the different forces of nature. 3) The impact of natural forces on living things both locally and globally. Attributes: Inquirer, knowledgeable and communicator Attitudes: Curiosity, confidence and independence Skills: Transdisciplinary Theme An inquiry into the natural world and its laws; the interaction between the natural world (physical and biological) and human societies; how humans use their understanding of scientific principles; the impact of scientific and technological advances on society and on the environment. Central Idea: Forces of nature can have an impact on all facets of life. Les phénomènes ont un impact sur l’ensemble de la planète. Self-management, research and communication Key Concepts: 1) form 2) causation 3) connection Summative Assessment: The students will film a newscast dealing with a natural disaster of their choice. There will be four members to a team: anchor person, meteorologist, scientist and reporter. We are always looking for guest speakers who can enrich our units. If you have expertise in the area of natural disaters or know someone who would be willing to come and talk to the class or skype with us, please let us know.
