$14K GRANT FOR PUDDLE RINK INFRASTRUCTURE
AT HARKNESS PARK
SUBVENTION DE 14 000 $ POUR LA PETITE PATINOIRE

Carlsbad Springs – Cumberland City Councillor Stephen
Blais is proud to announce that a $14K grant has been
secured for the purchase of a water pump to help create a
new puddle rink at Harkness Park.
Carlsbad Springs – Le conseiller municipal de Cumberland,
Stephen Blais, est fier d’annoncer l’octroi d’une subvention
de 14 000 $ pour l’installation d’une pompe à eau pour la
petite patinoire du parc Harkness.
“The puddle rink in Carlsbad Springs is an important
community facility for Carlsbad Springs,” says Blais. “In the
past few years, this rink has greatly enhanced the village’s
winter carnival and has been a focal point of this event. I
am so glad that the water infrastructure will finally be
resolved,” adds Blais.
« La petite patinoire de Carlsbad Springs est un espace
communautaire essentiel pour le village. Dans les dernières
années, elle a grandement contribué au succès du Carnaval
d’hiver du village et a été un point central pour l’événement,
souligne le conseiller Blais. Je suis très content que la
question de la pompe à eau soit enfin réglée. »
Over the past few years, there has been no permanent and
reliable water service for the puddle rink at Harkness Park.
For instance, last year devoted local residents spent hours
forming the puddle rink with a low-capacity garden hose
connected to the well on site. Now with the water pump
and its accompanying capacity, servicing the rink will be a
far less tedious and more stable task.
Il n’y avait pas de service d’eau permanent ni fiable pour la
petite patinoire du parc Harkness au cours des dernières
années. L’an dernier, par exemple, des résidents locaux fort
dévoués ont passé des heures à créer la petite patinoire à
l’aide d’un boyau d’arrosage de faible capacité connecté au
puits du parc. Maintenant, grâce à la pompe à eau de
capacité supérieure, il sera beaucoup moins fastidieux
d’assurer le fonctionnement de la patinoire.
Denis Labrèche, President of the Carlsbad Springs
Community Association agrees with the significance of this
project. “The installation of a pump system provides a
permanent solution for the creation of a puddle rink at
Harkness Park,” says Labrèche. “This initiative confirms
that Harkness park is now the hub for sports and leisure
activities and events in our community. This is great news
for families and users of our outdoor rink in Carlsbad
Springs.”
Harkness Park is located at 6020 Piperville Road, adjacent
to the Carlsbad Springs Community Centre. The
community centre and the park provide leisure and
recreational activities to residents throughout south-east
Ottawa.
The Carlsbad Springs Community Centre is a $3.2 million
facility that opened in 2011. The new water service
infrastructure at Harkness Park is the most recent
investment in leisure and recreation in the village.

activités sportives et récréatives. C’est une excellente
nouvelle pour les familles et les utilisateurs de la patinoire
extérieure de Carlsbad Springs. »
Le parc Harkness est situé au 6020, chemin Piperville, à
côté du Centre communautaire de Carlsbad Springs. Le
Centre communautaire et le parc offrent des activités
récréatives pour les résidents du sud-est d’Ottawa.
Le Centre communautaire de Carlsbad Springs, d’une valeur
de 3,2 millions de dollars, est ouvert depuis 2011. La
nouvelle pompe à eau qui sera installée au parc Harkness
constitue l’investissement le plus récent pour les activités
récréatives dans le village.

Le Club Optimiste—Toutes les activités de la fin
de semaine du 24 au 26 janvier furent un grand
succès grâce à une grande participation et à une
température clémente.
Carlsbad Springs Winter Carnival organized by
the Club Optimiste—All activities which took
place during the January 24 to 26 weekend were
highly attended and very successful - even Mother
Nature was on our side!
Nous tenons à remercier nos nombreux et
généreux commanditaires qui nous ont
encouragés – en participant au dépliant du
carnaval, en finançant une activité ou en défrayant
le coût d’impression du dépliant. Sans vous le
carnaval n'aurait pas connu le même succès!

Le Centre des Ressources de l'Est d'Ottawa
(CREO) aimerait faire l'ajout d'un nouvel
épicerie-bus pour les personnes âgées
vivant dans les secteurs Carlsbad Springs.
L'épicerie-bus offre un service «porte à porte»
aux personnes âgées en offrant une certaine
assistance sur le bus et dans le magasin. Nous
sommes fiers d'offrir ce service à travers l'Est
d'Ottawa avec l'assistance de la chaîne
d'alimentation Métro. L'épicerie bus offrirait le
transport dans l'Est au 2636, rue Innes à
Blackburn Hamlet et dans l'Ouest au 2515 Rue
Bank secteur Hunt Club. Un coût minime serait
chargé pour un allé retour. Selon le taux
d'inscription l'épicerie bus serait 2 fois par mois.

The Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre (EORC)
is excited to offer a Grocery Bus route for
seniors living in the Carlsbad Springs and
area. The Grocery Bus offers seniors "door to
door" service and some assistance onto the bus
and in the store. We are proud to offer this
service through Metro locations across Eastern
Ottawa. The Carlsbad Springs Grocery Bus in
the East would go to the Metro located at 2636
Innes Rd., in Blackburn Hamlet and for the
West they would go at 2515 Bank St., at Hunt
Club. A minimal cost would be charged for
round-trip and delivery. As per inscription, it
would be running two times per month.
