Au terme d’un rallye de l’Acropole fortement perturbé par des conditions
météorologiques dantesques, Craig Breen et Scott Martin montent sur la
deuxième marche du podium. Sur l’autre 208T16 de la Peugeot Rally
Academy, Charles Martin et Thierry Salva ont abandonné.
Alors tous les pilotes redoutaient la première spéciale longue de plus de 40
kilomètres, les organisateurs devaient raccourcir cette ES qui était
endommagée suite aux fortes pluies tombées précédemment sur la région de
Loutraki.
Dans ce contexte particulier, Craig Breen partait prudemment sur les deux
spéciales qui composaient la première étape. En évitant les nombreux pièges
présents sur des routes boueuses, l’Irlandais ramenait sa 208T16 à la
troisième place au terme de la première journée de course à moins de 15
secondes du leader. Le lendemain, Craig passait à l’attaque bien décidé à
porter haut les couleurs de la Peugeot Rally Academy. A la faveur de 2
meilleurs temps consécutifs dans la boucle matinale, la 208T16 flanquée du
numéro 1 prenait la tête de l’épreuve. Hélas, cette prise de pouvoir ne durait
pas, car dès la spéciale suivante, Craig ne pouvait rien faire quand son capot
s’ouvrait en pleine spéciale. Alors deuxièmes à 10 secondes de Kajetanowicz,
Craig et Scott étaient bien décidés à l’emporter quand l’organisation du rallye
décidait d’annuler les trois dernières spéciales, toujours à cause des
conditions météorologiques. Même si le résultat final n’était pas à la hauteur
des ambitions affichées avant le départ, Craig était néanmoins satisfait d’être
dans le rythme et de se battre pour la victoire.
Charles Martin a vécu un week-end difficile pour sa dernière apparition en
ERC cette année. La lauréat de la 208 Rally Cup 2014 préférait rendre son
carnet dès la première étape, jugeant les conditions de routes trop délicates.
Reparti en Rallye 2 pour la deuxième étape, il sortait de la route et devait à
nouveau abandonner, sa 208T16 étant trop endommagée.
Désormais, toute l’équipe de la Peugeot Rally Academy est impatiente d’être
en Suisse pour le Rallye International du Valais. A l’occasion de la dernière
manche de la saison, Craig Breen et Scott Martin auront à coeur d’offrir un
quatrième succès à la 208T16 !

FIA ERC / PEUGEOT RALLY ACADEMY : Retrouver le goût de la victoire !
Après une période maigre, la Peugeot Rally Academy espère renouer avec
la victoire. Le rallye de l’Acropole a une saveur particulière puisqu’il a offert à la 208T16 sa première victoire en Championnat d’Europe en 2014.
Craig Breen en était l’acteur principal…Il n’y a plus qu’à !
Réputé pour sa chaleur et la mixité terre/asphalte de ses épreuves spéciales,
le rallye de l’Acropole accueillera le week-end prochain l’avant dernière
manche de la saison. C’est dans ces conditions que Craig Breen et Scott Martin ainsi que Charles Martin et Thierry Salva devront faire briller les couleurs
de la Peugeot Rally Academy. Pour atteindre cet objectif, ils pourront compter
sur une 208T16 qui avait remporté son premier succès européen à Loutraki
l’an passé.
Fort de trois victoires depuis le début de la saison en Lettonie, en Irlande, et
aux Açores, Craig Breen est impatient d’en découdre à nouveau : « Toute
l’équipe a hâte de repartir en Grèce, où nous avons des souvenirs formidables
de l’an passé avec le premier succès de la 208T16. Cette année, le rallye sera
très différent avec moins de parties asphaltées, mais les spéciales sur terre
représenteront un sacré défi. La première spéciale dépasse allègrement les 40
kilomètres, et la deuxième se déroulera au coucher du soleil. Toutes ces caractéristiques font du rallye de l’Acropole, une des manches les plus difficiles
de la saison. »
Vainqueur de la 208 Rally Cup en 2014, dont la sixième manche se déroulera
en même temps que ce rallye de l’Acropole, Charles Martin prendra le départ
de sa deuxième épreuve ‘terre’ avec une quatre roues motrices après le rallye
des Açores au mois de juin. Satisfait par l’agilité de sa 208T16 sur tous les
types de terrain, Charles compte sur les qualités de sa voiture pour signer un
beau résultat : « Je n’ai pas roulé sur la terre avec la 208T16 depuis le rallye
des Açores, mais je sais que la séance d’essai prévue avant la course va me
permettre de vite retrouver mes automatismes. Cette épreuve s’annonce très
compliquée, notamment avec la spéciale de nuit sur la terre qui sera une nouveauté pour moi, mais j’espère prendre du plaisir et porter les hauts les couleurs de mon équipe. »

The Peugeot Rally Academy’s Craig Breen and Scott Martin completed this
year’s weather-troubled Acropolis Rally in second place. Team-mates
Charles Martin and Thierry Salva retired.
Recent heavy rain in Greece’s Loutraki region caused the Acropolis Rally
organisers to shorten the event’s opening stage which had originally been
planned to exceed 40 kilometres in length. In light of the first leg’s
horrendous conditions, Craig Breen started cautiously but overcame the
tricky, muddy stages to put his 208T16 on Saturday night’s provisional
podium, less than 15 seconds behind the overnight leader. The next day, the
Irishman switched to attack mode and two consecutive fastest times on the
morning’s loop put the N°1 Peugeot Rally Academy 208T16 at the top of the
order. The situation didn’t last, however, since there was nothing Craig could
do when the bonnet of his car flew open in the middle of a stage, dropping
him back to second spot, 10 seconds short Kajetanowicz. Craig and Scott
were intent on recovering their lead when the organisers decided to cancel
the weekend’s last three stages due to the continuing bad weather. Although
the final result failed to live up to the hopes he had nurtured prior to the start,
Craig was still pleased with the pace he showed and the fact that he was able
to battle for the victory.
Charles Martin, who was making his final ERC appearance of the season, had
a troubled weekend in Greece. The 2014 208 Rally Cup winner chose to hand
in his timecard during the opening leg after judging the conditions to be
excessively delicate. He then re-started on Sunday morning under the Rally2
ruling but crashed and retired a second time due to the excessive damage
suffered by his 208T16.
Everyone at Peugeot Rally Academy is now eager to move on to
Switzerland’s Rallye International du Valais where Craig Breen and Scott
Martin will be out to wrap up the 2015 FIA European Rally Championship with
a fourth win for the 208T16.

FIA ERC / PEUGEOT RALLY ACADEMY: Back hunting for victory
After a barren spell, the Peugeot Rally Academy is hoping to resume its
winning ways in Greece where the 208T16 secured its maiden European
Championship victory on the 2014 Acropolis Rally. The victor that day was
Craig Breen who will be keen to repeat his success this time round.
The Acropolis Rally’s mixed dirt/asphalt format and hot weather will be the
main features of the 2015 ERC’s penultimate round where Craig Breen/Scott
Martin and Charles Martin/Thierry Salva will be tasked with defending the
colours of the Peugeot Rally Academy. To achieve that objective, their chief
asset will be the 208T16 which claimed its first ERC success at the Loutrakibased event last season.
With a score of three wins to his name so far this year, in Latvia, Ireland and
the Azores, Craig Breen is keen for action to begin: “Everyone in the team is
looking forward to competing in Greece again. It was such a great event for
us last year when we notched up the 208T16’s first win. This year’s rally will
be very different, with less asphalt, but the gravel stages promise to be a
huge challenge. The opening stage exceeds 40 kilometres in length and the
second takes place at sunset. I think this has the makings of being one of the
hardest rounds of the season.”
The 2014 208 Rally Cup winner Charles Martin is looking forward to his second loose-surface appearance in a four-wheel drive car after June’s visit to
the Azores. He is pleased with the agility of the 208T16 on asphalt and gravel
and is counting on the car’s potential to pick up a good result: “I haven’t competed on dirt in the 208T16 since the Azores but the test session planned before the start of the Acropolis Rally will help me to find my marks again. It’s
likely to be a complex event, especially the night-time stage which will be a
new experience for me. I hope it will be an enjoyable weekend and I want to
do my best for the team.”
