LEO Pharma | We help people achieve healthy skin Press release, 21st September 2012 LEO Pharma: Picato® (ingenol mebutate) gel recommended for approval in the European Union for patients with Actinic Keratosis LEO Pharma today announced that it has received a positive opinion from the European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP), recommending the approval of Picato® (ingenol mebutate) gel for the cutaneous treatment of adult patients with non-hyperkeratotic, non hypertrophic actinic keratosis. Picato® has in Phase 3 trials showed a significant reduction in actinic keratoses after three days of treatment 1 with the 150mcg/g strength on the face and scalp and two days treatment with the 500 mcg/g strength on trunk and extremities, both administered once daily. Commenting on today’s announcement Kim Domela Kjoeller, Senior Vice President Global Development said “The positive opinion from CHMP recommending Picato® for use in the European Union follows approval by the FDA and ANVISA in the US and Brazil respectively. Picato® represents a new treatment option of just two or three days to combat the growing problem of actinic keratosis.” A CHMP positive opinion is one of the final steps before marketing authorisation is granted by the European Commission. Picato® gel was approved by the FDA in the US in January 2012 and approved by ANVISA in Brazil in July 2012. _______________________ 1 Lebwohl M, Swanson N, Anderson LL, Meldgaard A, Zhenyi X, Berman B.
