At the age of six years, Matthias Gunsch takes his first drum lessons. By the age of eleven years
he founds his first band - a Guns’n’Roses-coverband. He then falls in love with energetic rhythms
and plays in different Trash-, HC- and Crossover-bands, with whom he publishes his first demos
and performs live several times. Matthias then gets attracted by the microphone and sings (or
shouts) the HC-hit `Set it Off` from the Madball-album of the same title. At the same time he
teaches himself the piano.
As his teenager-years fade out, his musical horizon widens and he plays in many endless and
legendary jam-nights where he indulges in the rhythms of Drum`n`Bass & Breakbeat, of Krautrock
and free play.
Most of the time, Matthias takes a more relaxed approach to music. He plays the drums in the
Indie-Postrockband forstattnorm and also plays in a Drum’n’Bass-combo. 2002 sets another
extension of his musical spectrum; Matthias forms and plays the drums in the Jazz-Rock-formation
Delfi. In 2006, under his first artist name kakophon (later graet and chalkh), he starts to write and
record his own song material. Due mainly to a lack of confidence in his ability as a
singer/songwriter, none of his recorded EPs and CDs are published.
In 2009 Matthias meets the band dukush, with whom he records and publishes the CD `dukush` in
2011 and two years later the CD `mycorrhiza', recorded in Bristol. `Good Knight Frank` from that
album is the first published song with his singing. Both albums have been much acclaimed by the
press and songs like `Phoenix` or `Masquerade` are still played on indie-radio stations. With the
end of dukush in early 2014 Matthias Gunsch is finally focussing on his own project called
nówfrago and has been recording his debut `In Love With The Blackbird` in the winter 2014/2015
which will be released on january 29th 2016 at Zoey Records / Godbrain. His first release, the
`Grandiosa EP` has been released in August 2015 on Zoey Records.

Bereits im Alter von sechs Jahren nimmt Matthias Gunsch Schlagzeugunterricht. Mit elf Jahren
gründet er seine erste Band, eine Guns’n’Roses-Coverband. Von schnellen Rhythmen angetan,
spielt er in den folgenden Jahren in verschiedenen Trash-, HC- und Crossover-Bands, mit denen
er auch Demos veröffentlicht und zahlreiche Male auf der Bühne steht. Bereits da zieht es ihn
vereinzelt ans Mikrofon, er singt resp. schreit den HC-Hit "Set it Off" vom gleichnamigen MadballAlbum:-). Zur selben Zeit beginnt er autodidaktisch mit dem Klavierspiel.
Gegen Ende der Teenager-Jahre wird der Horizont etwas breiter und an genauso legendären wie
endlosen Jam-Nächten gibt er sich den Rhythmen des Drum`n`Bass&Breakbeats, des Krautrock
und des freien Spiels hin.
Mit der Volljährigkeit geht es musikalisch etwas ruhiger weiter, Matthias wird Schlagzeuger in der
Indie-Postrockband forstattnorm. Gleichzeitig ist er auch in einer Drum’n’Bass-Combo aktiv. 2002
erweitert sich das musikalische Spektrum erneut: Matthias sitzt in der Jazz-Rock-Formation Delfi
am Schlagzeug. Unter dem Namen kakophon (später graet und chalkh) beginnt er ab 2006,
eigenes Songmaterial zu komponieren. Er veröffentlicht aus Mangel an Vertrauen in seine
songwriterischen und gesanglichen Fähigkeiten keine einzige seiner EPs und Alben. 2009 trifft er
die Band dukush, mit denen er in den folgenden vier Jahren die CD "dukush" (2011) sowie die in
Bristol produzierte CD "mycorrhiza" (2013) veröffentlicht. Auf "Good Knight Frank" tritt er zum
ersten Mal gesanglich in Erscheinung. Beide Alben heimsen in der Presse sehr gute Kritiken ein
und Songs wie "Phoenix" oder "Masquerade" werden noch immer von Indie-Stationen gespielt.
Seit dem Ende von dukush (2014) fokussiert Matthias Gunsch nun auf sein eigenes Projekt
nówfrago und hat im Winter 2014/2015 sein Debüt "In Love With The Blackbird" eingespielt,
welches am 29. Januar 2016 bei Zoey Records / Godbrain erscheinen wird. Im August 2015 wurde
die "Grandiosa EP" ebenfalls bei Zoey Records veröffentlicht.

À l’âge de six ans déjà, Matthias Gunsch commence à suivre des cours de batterie. À onze ans, il
fonde son premier groupe de reprises des Guns’n’Roses. Passionné de rythmes entraînants, il
s’engage pendant plusieurs années dans divers groupes de trash, de HC et de crossover, avec
lesquels il publie aussi quelques démos et acquiert une solide expérience sur scène. À l’époque
déjà, le micro l’attire parfois, il chante, ou plutôt hurle le tube HC «Set it Off» de l’album de Madball
au même titre. C’est durant cette période qu’en autodidacte, il se met au clavier.
Vers la fin de l’adolescence, il étend son horizon. Les rythmes Drum’n’Bass et Breakbeats,
Krautrock et la libre improvisation animent les interminables et inoubliables nuits de jam sessions.
Au fil des années, Matthias s’intéresse davantage à des styles plus calmes. Il intègre le groupe
indie-postrock forstattnorm en tant que batteur, tout en participant activement à un combo
Drum’n’Bass. En 2002, il élargit une fois de plus son éventail musical, les baguettes en main pour
la formation de jazz-rock Delfi. Sous le nom de kakophon (par la suite graet et chalkh) qu’il
commence, à partir de 2006, à composer ses propres œuvres. Par manque de confiance en ses
capacités de compositeur et de chanteur, il ne publie aucun de ses EP et albums. C’est en 2009
qu’il rencontre le groupe dukush, avec lequel il publie les CD dukush (2011), et "mycorrhiza"
(2013), ce dernier produit à Bristol. Dans «Good Knight Frank», on entendra sa voix pour la
première fois. La presse fait l’éloge de ses deux albums, dont les pièces «Phoenix» ou
«Masquerade» sont régulièrement joué par des radios indépendantes. Depuis la séparation de
dukush en 2014, Matthias Gunsch se concentre sur son propre projet nówfrago. En hiver
2014/2015, il enregistre son premier album «In Love With The Blackbird», qui sortira en 2016 chez
Zoey Records / Godbrain. Or, «Grandiosa EP» sortira déjà en août 2015 chez la même boite
productrice.
