First marriage of daughter Marie Ursule Bolduc, PRDH Individual #5917, to Henri Brault Pominville, 11
August 1692, Québec City; her second marriage, to Jean Drapeau, 11 August 1700, Pointe-de-Lévy (Lauzon); and
her third marriage, to Richard Tallard, marriage contract Dubreuil, 5 October 1712. PRDH Individual #57541 has
Marie Françoise Stevens listed as Marie Françoise NESTYUS ESTIVE STYVES, “from pemaquid, nouvelleangleterre (auj. [today] woolwich, comte de sagadahoc, maine, etats-unis).” I have a number of other sources and
references in my Family History for the last name of Stevens. Records before 1800 confirmed at PRDH. Later
records are from photocopies ordered from parishes or digital images available on either Ancestry.ca or
FamilySearch.
See André Vachon, “BOULDUC, LOUIS,” in Dictionary of Canadian Biography, vol. 2, University of
Toronto/Université Laval, 2003–, accessed March 6, 2014,
http://www.biographi.ca/en/bio/boulduc_louis_2E.html.
Louis Boulduc was censured by the governing body of New France and returned to France. The last two
paragraphs of Vachon’s article read, with my additions in square brackets:
Madame Boulduc had gone back to France in 1685, provided with a pass by [Governorgeneral] Denonville, who declared himself happy to “rid the country of a rather poor
piece of goods.” Boulduc followed her, perhaps the year after. They left behind

“children who are dependent upon the charity of honest folk.” The Boulducs had indeed
three sons and two (or three) daughters [see below] whose ages ranged from 9 to 17
years. The youngest girl, Louise, who may or may not have been still alive, was
Frontenac’s god-daughter. [Their son Louis was Frontenac’s godson.] They all remained
in the colony and took the name of Bolduc. As for the parents, they died in France,
apparently without seeing their children again.
Who would venture to pass final judgement on Boulduc? Whatever may have been his
faults, he was perhaps above all the victim of a troubled age. Intendant de Meulles seems
to have thought so: “Much passion having been stirred up in this affair, the King would
be wise to reinstate this magistrate,” he wrote on 12 Nov. 1686.
