Liaison Entreprises et Universités Université catholique de Louvain Institute of Mechanics, Materials and Civil Engineering (IMMC); Institute of Condensed Matter and Nanosciences (IMCN) Materials and Process Engineering research team of IMMC (IMAP); Bio and Soft Matter Research team of IMCN (BSMA) ARCOMAT - ARchitectured and COmposite MATerials Polymers, composites, high strength and lightweight metals and alloys, Mechanical properties, micromechanics, characterisation, multiscale modelling Questions ? Céline DESSAUCY Expert valorisateur Région wallonne Matériaux, Energie, Environnement +32-010478613 [email protected] Laboratory contact details Laboratory Head General Contact Prof. Pardoen Thomas IMAP Place Sainte Barbe, 2 1348 Louvain-laNeuve Belgium +32-10472417 [email protected] Main study areas and research topics Design and processing of advanced high strength steels, titanium and aluminum alloys. Heat treatments and forming operations (like hot rolling) to optimise performance. Thermoset composites processing encompassing Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM), Same Qualified Resin Transfer Moulding (SQRTM) and Resin Infusion. Thin coatings deposition in clean room environment involving all possibilities of lithography, etching and micromachining. A broad range of physico-chemical, thermal and morphological analysis techniques suitable for coatings, composites and metals, in particular IR/Raman spectroscopy, DSC, TGA, DMA, rheology, XRD, OM, SEM, EBSD, TEM, AFM. Integrated mechanical testing from nano to macro scale: nanoindentation, nanoscratch, tension, compression, bending, impact, fracture mechanics (static and fatigue), delamination, wear, on chip testing of freestanding coatings and thin films, all with ageing, humidity and temperature control. Macromechanical tests performed by the LEMSC laboratory are ISO17025 certified. Development of micromechanics based models for the deformation and damage of metallic or polymeric phases. Numerical modelling capability including finite elements analysis and homogenization methods.
