Surfing was introduced to Europe via the Basque Coast? Specifically,
in Biarritz in 1956, at the hands of the Hollywood screenwriter Peter
Viertel, whilst filming a film featuring his wife Deborah Kerr. This sport
now boasts over 20 million practitioners around the world.

World Class. Lorsque les conditions de vent, de swell et les marées sont
idéales, ces déferlantes offrent des sessions mythiques, notamment
celles de Punta Galea, Meñakoz, La Centrale, Mundaka, Ogeia et Orrua.
NATURAL AREAS / ESPACES VERTS
Euskadi boasts 9 natural parks, as well as biotypes. Some are found on the
Basque Coast, standing out given their beauty and proximity to the waves,
the Marine Biotopes of San Juan de Gastelugatxe, Iñurritza and La Rasa
Material and the Flysch cliffs. The Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, declared by
UNESCO, is without a doubt the natural area of most ecological value.

The waves at Itzurun beach are ideal
for bodyboarding as they bounce off
the cliffs and form take off “ramps”
for the most radical moves. The
beach shares the scene with the
Flysch cliffs.
Les vagues de la plage d’Itzurun, sont idéales pour la pratique du bodyboard,
car elles déferlent sur la falaise et constituent des « rampes » de décollage
pour les manœuvres les plus radicales. La plage et les falaises du Flysch
se partagent la vedette.

the same beach, and according to the
low pressure, different, large waves
break. Only for experts. From the road
the long day sight is worthy of
