C’est à l’auberge
“zur Sonne” à Rebstein que l’histoire de la
brasserie Sonnenbräu à commencé. Eduard Graf,
connu pour sa devise : « La bière la plus fraîche
est toujours la meilleure » commença d’y brasser
en 1891.
Les débuts fort prometteurs furent brutalement
ébranlés par la 1ère guerre mondiale, puis la mort
du fondateur en 1918. Ses deux fils reprirent
l’entreprise et leurs efforts furent à leur tour
freinés par la crise économique et la 2ème guerre.
Ce n’est qu’ensuite que la brasserie put enfin grandir,
dépassant les 20'000 hectolitres dans les années 60.
En 1978, Sonnenbräu lance la première bière light de
Suisse.
Alors que beaucoup de brasseurs cachent, avec une
certaine honte, l’usage de maïs, d’autres comme
Sonnenbräu l’utilise comme argument commercial.
La brasserie emploie aujourd’hui environ 30 personnes
brasse près de 30'000 hectolitres par année.
Lager Hell – 4,8% - lager blonde
clear golden colour, few head, herbal, medium-hoppiness,
full and slightly tart, dry herbal finish – modest

Lager Light – 2,5%
This one should be exported in the USA for all the light
beer lovers ... Everything is so light in this beer that colour,
aroma and taste have disappeared.

Spezial – 5,2% - Dortmunder/Helles
pale golden colour, fresh, some bitterness

Bock – 5,4% - Bock
Brassée à Pâques et à Noël - clear pale golden colour, few
head, malt and alcohol in the nose, sweet, oily, alcohol
finish - very modest

Doppel-Bock – 6% - Doppelbock
golden colour, big head, floral and alcohol
nose, neutral, quite sweet, dry alcohol finish

Rheintaler Maisbier – 5% - lager blonde
golden colour, nice head, deep herbal aroma,
sweet and full-bodied, the finish is slightly
dry but a little bit heavy, oily and disgusting
– unbalanced

Rheinperle – 4,8% - pilsener

Ice Beer – 5% - lager blonde
This beer has the horrible honour to be the
first swiss ice beer - clear golden colour, fine
head and lace, aroma of paperboard and
grain, sweet, plastic-like - dreadful stuff

First Swiss Ale – 5,4% - Brown Ale
thanks to Andrea Schranz for bringing this
beer to me - pours a clear reddish-amber
colour under an elusive foam; fair aroma of
butterscotch whith some notes of flowers and
solvant; sweet and medium-bodied, clean
palate, some late bitterness and a
moderately dry, fruity and caramelish aftertaste - I'm not sure how the funny name of
this beer should be interpret but it is better than I was expecting
