title
The magmatic evolution of Oceanic Plateaus: a case study from the Azores.
• Thesis: opus valde laudabile (magna cum laude)
• Oral examination: summa cum laude
• Overall results: magna cum laude
description
supervisor
This thesis deals with the magmatic evolution and formation of Oceanic Plateaus determined
by means of major element, trace element, and radiogenic isotope geochemistry of submarine
and subaeral lavas from the Azores Plateau. It contributes to a better understanding of the
formation, evolution, and melting dynamics of Oceanic Plateaus and plume-ridge interaction
processes.

Diploma thesis
part A
Petrogenetic evolution of the oceanic intraplate volcano Sete Cidades, São Miguel,
Azores
description
This study deals with the geochemical evolution of an oceanic intraplate volcano on the island
of São Miguel (Azores). The samples have been investigated by means of petrology and major
element and trace element geochemistry to determine the temporal and spatial evolution of
oceanic intraplate volcanoes.
part B
"The geology of an oceanic intraplate volcano: Preparation of a geological map of
the Sete Cidades volcanic system, São Miguel, Azores" (in German)
description
The volcanological mapping of the Sete Cidades volcano, São Miguel, Azores has been undertaken to gain a better understanding of the temporal evolution of oceanic intraplate volcanoes.
