The department of Pyrénées-Orientales has a fauna and flora whose species must be
preserved. In this respect, animal parks have been created to enable all nature lovers to
visit and discover the department’s animals in their natural habitat.
In addition, animal parks also feature species from around the world so that you can
discover other species "mother nature" has bequeathed us.
Visit Les Angles Animal Park, unique in the Pyrenees, and live an intense mountain
adventure rewarding in many aspects, both summer and winter. Along the trails, visitors will
discover all the specific animals of the Pyrenean fauna: from the brown bear to the wolf and
the bison.
At the foot of the Canigou, in the Conflent territory, Casteil Animal Park enables you to
discover many species such as lions, bears, llamas, deer, monkeys, various birds... Created
at the initiative of a local family, the visit is done on foot along a 3-km long mountain trail.
La Vallée des Tortues (The Valley of the Turtles), located in the heart of the Vallée Heureuse
(Happy Valley) in Sorède, is a wonderful wildlife park with nearly 35 species of turtles in a
2-hectare wooded environment. Discover these turtles from all over the world along a
pleasant botanical path, introducing you the garrigue (Mediterranean scrubland) and its
local wildlife as well as a carefully reconstructed landscape of the Seychelles. Visitors will
for sure go around the world....that of the turtle. The marked path features information
boards explaining each species to help visitors better understand and appreciate the
mysterious world of turtles...
Les Aigles de Valmy (The Eagles of Valmy): raptors show (hawks, owls, eagles and
vultures) with tamed birds of prey in free flight over the beautiful park of Château de Valmy.
