Bureau d Electronique Appliquee - BEA
Founded in 1965 by Fernand Van Genechten, self-taught with a passion for electronics, and run today by his son Philippe, the family owned business is considered as the market leader in detection for automated doors. The company, integrated since 2002 within the Anglo-Saxon group Halma, owes its success to its inventiveness which is echoed in exports around the world. Drawing from its qualified experience in the market for the detection of pedestrian and industrial automated doors, BEA creates and develops detectors which guarantee the security and comfort of its users. A philosophy and ability which have won over the confidence of the biggest international brand names such as Deutsche Bank, Brussels Airport… A large part of the budget is allocated to research. We continue that which is our strength : innovation, says Philippe Felten, Director. The technology which propulsed BEA into the world rankings is that of radar revised and improved upon for other applications. For example, the Eagle, their best selling product is based on digital techniques, profiting temporarily from analog and taking reliability and conviviality to a level previously never reached in the industry. We were the first to create overhead detectors for industrial doors, capable of confronting bad weather, of distinguishing between pedestrians and vehicles and differenciating their sense of movement, he states. Though the list of innovations is long (intelligent communication detectors for the management of buildings, detectors able to distinguish movement and presence in order to avoid the unecessary opening of doors and to save energy), BEA possesses an advantage which is not insignificant : the integration of the design process. I wanted to confer readability and emotion to these technically constrained products explains Pierre Nicolaï, freelance designer also responsible for the design of the registered office of Sart-Tilman and the exhibition stands. Thus, for Geze, we integrated the spherical volume of the aerial into the first detector evoking an eye. Opposite to this is the new asymetric electronic Eagle in the modular style of the BEA, the aerial being clearly distinguished from the electronics. For the stands of the future, the key words are : movement, comfort and waves concludes the designer. To resume, BEA develops products to be seen without being seen ! V.M.
