SgtPatriceDudemaineenrolledintheCanadianArmedForcesthe10thofApril1991atthe
recruitingcenterinTrois-RivièresasaSupplyTechnician.PteDudemainestartedhisbasic
recruitcourseatCFLRS(RecruitSchool)the15thofApril.Afterhavingsuccessfullyfinishedhis
12weeksofrecruitschoolaswellasan8monthcoursetoperfecthisEnglishatSt-Jean,hewas
transferredtoBorden,OntariowherehewasfinallyabletostarthisSupplyTechtradescourse
(TQ3).OncecompletingthiscoursehewaspostedtoBFCSt-Jeanwherehespent6joyfulyears.
HewaspromotedtotherankofCplin1995.
In1997CplDudemainewaspostedtoBFCValcartier(Québec)to5ServiceBattalionwherehe
wouldhavethechancetomasterbeingasoldieronvariousexercisesatwell-knownholiday
resortssuchasGagetownandWainwright.Attheendof1997,hewouldcarryouthisfirst
deploymentoverseastoHaitiwherehehadtheopportunitytoworkwith3CSU(Canadian
SupportUnit),aunitwherefurtheroninhiscareerhewouldhavethepleasureofworking.In
2002hecarriedouthisfirstandonlysixmonthtouratBosnie-Herzegovine.
In2003,aftersixyearsworkingatValcartier,heispostedtoMontréalto3CSU,wherehewas
immediatelydeployedonceagaintoBosnie-Herzegovine.Onceagainin2003hewassent
overseasbutthistimetoKaboulinAfghanistan.
In2004,becauseoftheworldcrisis,heisonceagaintoreturntoKaboulinAfghanistanfollowed
immediatelybyanotherdeploymenttoHaiti.Toputthecherryontopofthisamazingyearhe
wasonceagaintoreturntoBosnie-Herzegovine.
In2005,hewasdeployedtoCampMirageintheUnitedArabEmirates.Asifthatwasn’tenough
hewasalsochosenbyhisunit,3CSUtobeapartofaselectedgrouptorepresentthecountry
inItalytotakepartintheTouroftheBattlefieldsoftheSecondWorldWar.
In2006,CplDudemainewouldreturntoAfghanistanbutthistimehewouldbesendto
Kandahar.
In2007hewaspromotedtotherankofCplcandalsodeployedonceagaintoKandaharin
Afghanistan.
Stillpostedto3CSUattheonsetof2008hewouldtakepartinhislasttouratCampMiragein
theUnitedArabEmirates.InJulyhewaspostedto5ASG(5eAreaSupportGroup)wherehe
wasputinchargeoftheinventorysectionatMontreal.
Attheendof2009beingpromotedtoSgt,hewasputinchargeastheclothingstoresupervisor
atMontreal.SixmonthslaterSgtDudemaineistransferredtoCustomerservicewhereheis
responsibleforPurchasingandalsohiringcivilianpersonnelfortheSupplytechplatoonforthe
baseatMontreal.Whilehewasresponsibleformanypilotprojectshewasalsoworking
towardsgettingisrankofWarrantOfficer.The22ndofAugust2012hewasunfortunately
struckdownnotbyonebutbythreestrokes.Paralyzedheneededrehabilitationforthenext
threeyearsandwillberetiringfromtheCanadianArmedForcesthe07September2015after
anenjoyableandfruitfulcareerof24yearsand254daysoffaithfulandloyalservice.
HisintentionistoretireintheJolietteregionwithhisdaughterMarilouwhowillsoonbe
attendinguniversity.Heplansonstartinghisretirementbygoingonacruise.CurrentlySgt
Dudemaineisinvolvedwithvolunteeringhistimetothosepersonsthatarehandicappedand
alsoinvolvedwiththeLegion083locatedatJoliette.Inthefutureheishopingtolearnhowto
speakSpanishandItalian.

que8moisdeperfectionnementlinguistiqueàl’ÉcoledeslanguesSt-Jean,ilfuttransféréà
Borden,Ontarioafindecommencersoncoursdemétierdetechnicienenapprovisionnement
(NQ3).Aprèsavoirterminél’apprentissagedesonnouveaumétier;ilfutmutéàlaBFCSt-Jean
oùilypassa6merveilleusesannées.IlfutpromuaurangdeCplen1995.
En1997,leCplDudemaineestmutéàlaBFCValcartier(Québec),au5eBataillondesServices
duCanadaoù,ilauralachancedeperfectionnersonmétierdesoldatàtraversplusieurs
exercicesdansdesendroitsdevillégiaturestelsqueGagetownetWainwright.Àlafinde
l’année1997,ileffectuerasonpremierdéploiementoutre-meràHaitioùilalachancede
travaillerpendant3moisavecla3USC(UnitédeSoutienduCanada),unitéaveclaquelleilaura
l’occasiondetravaillerànouveauplustard.En2002,ileffectuerasapremièreetseulemission
de6moisetenBosnie-Herzegovine.
En2003,après6ansàValcartier,ilestmutéàMontréal,àla3USCetseradéployédèsson
arrivéeàl’unité,enBosnie-Herzégovinepourunedeuxièmefois.Encoreunefoisen2003,ilsera
envoyéenmissionmaiscettefoisàKaboulenAfghanistan.
En2004,enraisondelasituationmondiale,ilestdenouveauderetouràKaboulenAfghanistan
suiviimmédiatementd’unautredéploiementàHaïti,etquestiondeterminerl’annéeen
beauté…unretourenBosnie-Herzégovine.
En2005,ilestdéployéaucampmirageauxÉmiratsArabesUnis.Deplus,ilestchoisiparson
unité,la3USCpourreprésenterlepaysenItalieavecungroupeselectpoureffectuerletourdes
champsdebataillesdelaDeuxièmeGuerreMondiale.
En2006,leCplDudemaineseraderetourenAfghanistanmaiscettefoisàKandahar.
En2007,ilestpromuaurangdeCplcetestaussitôtdéployédenouveauàKandaharen
Afghanistan.
Toujoursàla3USCMontréal,àl’aubede2008,ileffectuerasadernièremissionetce,aucamp
MirageauÉmiratsArabesUnis.
Enjuilletdecettemêmeannée,ilestmutéau5GSS(5eGroupedeSoutiendeSecteur)oùil
seraenchargedelasectiondesinventairesdelabasedeMontréal.
Fin2009,promuaugradedeSgt,ildevientleresponsabledumagasind’habillementdelabase
deMontréal.Sixmoisplustard,leSgtDudemaineesttransféréàlasectiondesachatsetila
aussilatâched’engagerdupersonnelcivilpourlepelotond’Approvisionnementdelabasede
Montréal.Responsabledeplusieursprojetspilotes,ilsedirigeverssapromotiond’adjudant,
lorsquemalheureusementle22Aout2012,ilestterrassénonparunmaistroisAVC(arrêt
cardio-respiratoire)paralysé,ildevraseréhabiliterphysiquementdurantles3annéesqui
suiventetseralibérédesForcesArméesCanadiennesle7Septembre2015autermed’unebelle
etfructueusecarrièrede24anset254joursdebonetloyauxservices.
LeSgtDudemaineprendrasaretraitedanslarégiondeJolietteavecsafilleMarilouqui
entreprendrabientôtdesétudesuniversitaires.Ilvadébutersaretraiteenfaisantunecroisière.
ActuellementleSgtDudemainefaitdubénévolatauprèsdespersonneshandicapées,s’implique
entantquedirecteurpourlafiliale083deJoliettepourlaLégionRoyaleCanadienne.Ilaaussi
l’intentionplustard,d’entreprendredesétudesenlanguesespagnoleetitalienne.
