The Lucerne Festival, with its unparalleled renown in the world of classical music, chose “humour” as its theme for 2015,
and thus asked Schaerer if he might combine a new composition for the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra with a
20-minute appearance by his band Hildegard Lernt Fliegen (meaning Hildegard Learns to Fly). Schaerer didn’t just grab
this opportunity, he really ran with it. What he composed was a six-movement orchestral work, with parts for 66 players.
The concert had the audience leaping from its seats. “The Big Wig” is a masterpiece by the multi-talented vocal marvel
Andreas Schaerer. This is a work which situates him quite clearly and definitively among the most important composers
and interpreters of contemporary music of his generation.

Combining Pieranunzi's piano with bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Paul Motian deserves to be called a special
encounter, and the music lives up to the billing. Two standards, My Old Flame and a beautiful You've Changed, show
what they, and especially Pieranunzi, can do with the familiar, the third, a lovely Why Did I Choose You?, is less known.
But the originals, five by the leader and three by Haden, are performances that delve even deeper into the after-hours
atmosphere that suffuses even the medium-up Secret Nights, a probing, restless but compelling example of their
collective artistry, and Haden's buoyant Waltz for Ruth. Motian is discretion itself, leaving piano and bass to their joint
communion; one track is an exquisite piano-bass duet on Pieranunzi's poignant, melancholy Miradas. (R. Comiskey The Irish Times)

John Taylor and his two minds. A cryptic title for the new work of the English piano player. This is a concise album, for
piano only (or at least so one might assume), in which Taylor bares himself, revealing two sides of his personality: his
innermost, quiet and introspective side as opposed to his more lively, vivid, and cheerful side. The weird, innovative idea
in “In Two Minds” is the use of two pianos to make the two tracks interlock, overlap, and match perfectly. Thus, one can
delight in guessing and discovering where this comes true, starting with the long “Ambleside Suite”, nineteen minutes of
outstanding music that captivate listeners right from the beginning. A piece that prepares them to travel through the other
six pieces on the album, minor, though not less shiny, gems. All of these compositions bear Taylor’s signature, except for
“Phrase The Second” by his friend Kenny Wheeler and a tribute to Duke Ellington, “Reflections In D”, that virtually closes
the album.
