2009 - Notice to Shipping N° 8 MAISONNEUVE REGION MONTRÉAL / LAKE ONTARIO SECTION Alternate mooring arrangements for vessels with OAL between 130 and 150 metres As a result of a request from our customers, beginning April 21, 2009, further testing of alternate mooring arrangements will be conducted as follows: 1. Tests using less than four mooring wires for upbound vessels between 130 and 150 metres, at locks 1, 2, 3 and 4. 2. Tests using soft lines for vessels, both upbound and downbound, between 130 and 150 metres, at locks 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7. Refer to the attached chart for guidance. Masters/pilots can still request to secure in the lock chambers using four mooring lines. The Operations Centre will confirm with the vessels meeting the above criteria, whether they wish to secure in the lock chambers with the reduced mooring requirements. This information will then be forwarded to the lock crews before the vessel’s arrival at the locks. An evaluation form has been developed for you comments/evaluation (see attached). Masters/pilots are asked to forward the completed forms as per the instructions outlined on the bottom of the form. This procedure will be reviewed on an ongoing basis to ensure that it continues to meet the needs of all interested parties. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
