Depuis quelques décennies surgissent périodiquement
des vocables et des expressions (équité, fracture sociale, posture, pour les dernières
en date..) qui deviennent aussitôt « à la mode », et parfois même s’inscrivent dans
notre vocabulaire permanent.
L’un d’entre eux revient régulièrement sans jamais être vraiment commenté ou
approfondi : AUTHENTICITÉ.
Et pourtant, quelles richesses et quelles découvertes lorsqu’on l’étudie d’un peu
plus près ! Et d’abord, comme à notre habitude, étymologiquement.
Emprunté au bas latin AUTHENTICUS (original) , lui-même provenant du grec tardif
AUTHENTIA (autorité) composé d’ AUTO et HENTES (qui réalise, qui achève).
Première surprise : Authenticité et Autorité ont donc les mêmes racines.
En latin AUCTOR (instigateur), du verbe AUGERE (celui qui fait croître, celui qui
fonde et établit).
Là se trouve la seconde surprise, et elle est de taille !
Plus précisément AUTHENTES (celui qui agit sur la base de sa propre autorité)
provient du Proto-indoeuropéen * sene-( accomplir, réaliser).
Authentique implique donc que le contenu d’une action ou d’une réflexion
correspond à des faits avérés (et non pas fictionnels). Mais bien plus, l’Authenticité
permet de poser des actes fondateurs, c’est-à-dire porteurs de croissance aussi
bien pour les institutions que pour les personnes impliquées.
Bien au-delà de la morale, l’Authenticité se révèle ainsi essentielle dans nos sociétés.
La dimension éthique est donc la référence réelle de l’Authenticité ;
une éthique de la réflexion et de l’action, en fait une véritable praxis.
Sur la base de cette analyse apparemment intellectuelle, tant la vie quotidienne que
l’Histoire viennent confirmer cette approche. Je voudrais donner simplement trois
exemples : Les élections de Barack Obama ou de Nicolas Sarkozy,
peut-être demain celle de François Hollande, se sont appuyées, sans que le mot ne
soit vraiment utilisé, sur cette aspiration à l’Authenticité de la part des électeurs.
En Droit, un acte Authentique permet de légitimer un contrat et donc d’assurer une
base peu attaquable pour la création de relations nouvelles.
Au contraire, lorsque l’Authenticité n’est pas au rendez-vous, s’enchaînent alors
dangers et dérives. L’état actuel du système financier international, déconnecté de
l’économie réelle, en est malheureusement une illustration éclatante.
Finalement, si cette interpellation du réseau de Praxis International entraînait, ne
serait-ce que d’une façon infime, une réactualisation pratique et concrète de cette
valeur, alors le Réseau aurait accompli un pas utile aussi bien pour ses amis et
lecteurs que pour lui-même, dans l’Authenticité de son existence.

For the last few decades, some words and expressions
have leaped periodically and have become “trendy”, and sometimes even fit into the
scheme of our permanent vocabulary.
One of them regularly comes out without even being commented or detailed in
depth : AUTHENTICITY.
And yet, what treasures and what discoveries one finds when it is studied closely !
And first, as our usual pattern, etymologically.
Derived from low Latin AUTHENTICUS (original), itself derived from late Greek
AUTHENTIA (authority) made up of AUTO(self) and HENTES (who accomplishes,
who achieves).
First surprise : Authenticity and Authority have hence the same roots. In latin
AUCTOR (initiator), from the verb AUGERE ( the one who makes something grow,
the one who establishes, who founds).
The second surprise lies there, and what a surprise ! More precisely,
AUTHENTES : (the one who acts on the basis of his own authority) derives from
the Proto indo-european *sene (to accomplish, to act upon).
Thus, Authentic implies that the substance of an action or thought corresponds to
proven confirmed facts (and not fiction). But in addition, Authenticity allows to lay
out founding actions, that is to say bearing growth for both the institutions and the
persons involved.
Way beyond morale, authenticity turns out to be essential in our societies.
The ethical dimension is thus the real reference of Authenticity; ethics of thought
and action, in fact a true praxis.
On the basis of this apparently “intellectual” analysis, everyday life as well as History
confirm this approach. I wish to give three examples.
The election of Barack Obama or Nicolas Sarkozy, maybe tomorrow François
Hollande’s, Have relied upon, without using the word, the voters‘ longing for
Authenticity.
As far as Law is concerned, an Authentic Act allows to legitimate a contract, and
thus to insure a sound uncontestable base for new relationships.
At the opposite, when Authenticity is not present, dangers and diversions follow
on. The actual state of the international financial system, disconnected from the real
economy, is unfortunately a dazzling example.
Finally, if this interjection of the Praxis International Network conveyed, even
slightly, a practical and tangible update of this value, then the Network would have
accomplished a useful step for its friends and readers as well as for itself,
in the authenticity of its existence.

Stockholm in November. It´s dark already early in the
afternoon. Ten thousand persons are milling into the great arena.
There´s a small man down there on the stage. No wide-screen television showing
close-ups. Almost bad lighting, like in a sitting room.
So there he is, this living legend. Dressed like a gypsy, clownish, a cowboy. He sings
his songs with a croaky, broken voice. Do your own thing, go your own way, he
sings. And he sure is, disregarding trying to please anybody who does not deserve it.
Why has he become such a legend? How come every move he makes is controlled
and interpreted? How did he touch so many people, without really intending to do
it, at least not in the way it turned out?
He knew the zeitgeist, he knew the yet unspoken before it could become words.
Before it happened or could be interpreted. His voice told about something important and profoundly engaging.
The un-thought known, to use Bollas´expression.
All the people you get to know there in his songcountry; Captain Ahab, Mister
Jones, the woman with a leopard skin pillbox hat, the sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
the joker and the thief… All of them talking to you. What do they say that is so
deeply important to me?
Songpoems like stories, like journeys through places and people, open to enter into
and make a passage into your own soul.

To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?”
Open to enter into and find new openings within you, like within me. The jester, the
gypsy, the clown, the jack and ace, the queens and kings. Songstories about being
human.
Authentic.
Like the old, thin man on the stage filling the vast space of the sphere with soundstories
With broken vocal chords. No bowing to applause. No limelight. Songstory, then
darkness.
Never mind, babe.You´ll find your own soul can expand.

où le virtuel submerge irrésistiblement toute réalité,
où le débat politique se réduit à un théâtre de
marionnettes manipulées par les communicateurs et régi
par l’apparence, les «éléments de langage» et les « petites phrases»,
où « je ne vaux bien » qu’en cédant aux
mensonges publicitaires et en consommant
toujours plus,
où la seule échappatoire est
l’anesthésie par les pantalonnades
médiatiques et autres téléréalités,
où ...
Mais aussi pierre de touche pour une quête jamais assouvie de l’autre et de
moi-même dans des rencontres où j’apprends chaque jour à connaître
davantage qui il ou elle est et qui je suis.

Authenticité ; à première vue, le terme
me paraît galvaudé,
par un mauvais journal-télé de 13h qui en
fait son pseudo fond de commerce ou des
publicitaires vantant le « retour aux vraies
valeurs du terroir »…
A mieux y réfléchir, ses significations de
certification ou de vocabulaire juridique ne
m’intéressent pas beaucoup non plus.
Mais à mieux y ressentir, j’y vois le courage
de l’expression de ses sentiments et de sa
sincérité, comme un effort continuel invitant à la confiance et à l’exercice accepté
de son leadership.

« Authenticité » est un mot noble et archaïque.
Son origine grecque est « certifiée » par sa racine,
qui transparaît nettement dans son orthographe.
Authentikos signifie « dont le pouvoir, l’autorité est
inattaquable. »
Dans une monarchie classique, cette qualité est
transmise par le sang, le roi doit sa légitimité à son
origine, son pouvoir est un héritage indiscutable.
Dans notre démocratie, la noblesse a été abolie, et
le sang ne suffit plus a priori pour diriger.
Toutefois, en faisant preuve d’authenticité, les leaders
actuels continuent à assumer, aux yeux de tous, leur
autorité et leurs origines, mêmes si ces dernières
sont roturières et mêlées.
On dit d’ailleurs d’une œuvre ou d’un produit qu’il
est authentique, quand on peut en identifier l’origine
et l’auteur. C’est aussi le cas des personnes, et pas
uniquement des dirigeants, chefs d’entreprise ou
chefs d’État. Un individu est ou peut devenir
authentique, dès lors qu’il agit en auteur de sa
vie, qu’il y prend son autorité. Il acquiert ainsi de
la noblesse, pas celle qui s’hérite et se transmet,
mais celle qui se conquiert en son nom propre. La
recherche de l’authenticité est, en effet, une quête
noble et anoblissante, puisqu’elle vise la vérité.
Celui qui la désire souhaite saisir l’essence d’une
personne ou d’une chose, ce qu’elle est vraiment.

El ser humano es en tanto posibilidad

vida es el derrotero de las elecciones
que van conformando su realización
vital. Muchas veces nos perdemos en un
mar confuso. Así nuestra existencia se
convierte en un anonimato en donde
el” yo hago”, “yo pienso” y “yo digo”,
se aliena en “se hace”, “se piensa” y “se
dice”: encarnamos así la dictadura de lo
impersonal.
Lo auténtico en nuestras vidas nos
convoca a la permanente batalla por
alcanzar las verdaderas posibilidades.
Estamos sostenidos por nuestro impulso
vital que nos mantiene despiertos y nos
permite andar el camino de la libertad.
Aceptar el paso del tiempo y la muerte
como castración inevitable y final y, sin
embargo, aprender a transmitir generosamente a las generaciones siguientes,
nos enfrenta a la autenticidad de la vida
humana.
Autenticidad es una palabra que proviene de la integración de la palabra latina
“authentes”, del turco “efendi”, título
honorífico de ese pueblo y del griego

The authentic in our lives calls us to
the permanent battle to reach the true
possibilities. We are supported by our

with the authenticity of human life.
Authenticity is a word originated in the
integration of the Latin word “authentes”, from the Turkish word “efendi”, an

Hombre auténtico es aquel que permanece fiel a sus orígenes y convicciones.
Somos seres únicos determinados por

El viaje a lo que soy realmente: a mi Ser;
por eso el trayecto de toda una vida,
en el que me hayo indefectiblemente
como parte de mi condición humana.
Pero, ¿Llegaré a ser quién soy realmente y a
aceptarlo,
desnudarme y dejarme desnudar de los cueros
protectores,
caminar ligera a pesar de los cienos mucilaginosos
que son las historias que vivieron mis antepasados y
las mías propias?
¿Lograré resistir el poder hipnótico de los cuentos
que me cuento para hacerme los embates e imperfecciones de la vida más soportables?
Ahí estás tú, ¡nosotros!
¿Podréis vosotros tolerar mis desaciertos?
Acaso un día me libere del miedo a morir, a perderme…,
camine decidida a abandonar la ilusión de mi Ego y
transite abierta…, generosa…
Fuego soy que teme incendiarse,
al tiempo que candelita que ilumina de forma inconstante y que desea,
como en el poema de Gioconda Belli,
prenderse y arder para iluminar la oscuridad.

Authenticity is about being yourself,
regardless of what others may think.
In a society in which we often have to downplay
our personal feelings authenticity is not so easy
to come by.
We are too often conditioned in our professional
environment but also very often among family and
friends to hide our true feelings when they do
come as a contradiction.
This lack of authenticity only leads to resentment
and anger and comes back to haunt us.
That is why to act authentically for any person
is the only way to thrive and achieve happiness,
freeing yourself from what others may think of
who you are, while also reciprocating and respect
others for being true to their own feelings.
