n este tercer The Tortuga
Post de esta singladura,
corresponde que, a
petición de expertos, redacte unas
líneas sobre mi persona, para que
sepan quien es el nuevo Secoin.
Es difícil alabarse, por lo que
sólo diré que el merecimiento lo
sopesaron los Capitanes
Nacionales presentes en la
Asamblea. De nombre Jorge
Patricio Sapiains Arnold,
combate Américo, nieto de
alemana que llegó a Chile en
1888 con la colonización y de
vascos franceses, seguramente
además algo de español y de
nativos del lugar. Con 66 años de
edad, felizmente casado con
Florencia por 44 años, Ingeniero
Civil, 13 años en la nao Santiago,
yate con navegación en los mares
del Sur del país y participación
en zaf. mundial de Chile, zaf. del
Caribe, zaf. de Italia y de Buenos
Aires.Editor de El Santiaguillo
por 8 años y de Revista
Abordajes, Vigía Internacional de
Chile, premio medalla Gentil
Hombre del Mar. Sean estos
datos sólo para conocernos más y
si ellos pesan, que sean para una
hermandad cada vez más grande

uelques experts ont estimé
que je devrais écrire
quelques lignes sur ma
personne dans ce 3e numéro du
Tortuga Post de la nouvelle
traversée, afin que l’on sache qui
est le nouveau SECOIN. Il n’est
pas question naturellement de
faire mon propre éloge. Je dirai
simplement que les Capitaines
nationaux présents à l’Assemblée
en faisant leur choix ont sans
doute estimé que j’avais quelque
mérite. Je m’appelle donc Jorge
Patricio Sapiains Arnold, nom de
combat Américo, descendant
d’un émigrant allemand qui
arriva au Chili en 1888 avec une
vague de colons, et de Basques
français, avec sûrement quelques
traces de sang espagnol et de
natif du lieu. J’ai 66 ans, je suis
marié et heureux depuis 44 ans
avec Florence. Ingénieur civil, je
suis Frère de la Table de
Santiago depuis 13 ans.
Navigation à bord de mon bateau
dans les eaux australes du pays.
Participation au Zaf mondial du
Chili, au Zaf des Amériques dans
les Antilles, aux Zaf mondiaux
d’Italie et de Buenos Aires.
Editeur de El Santiaguillo depuis
8 ans et de la revue Abordajes.
Vigie internationale du Chili et
GHM. Ces quelques détails, un
peu lourds peut-être, pour que
l’on me connaisse mieux et que
notre Hermandad soit toujours
plus grande et plus amicale.
A
fter the recent change, a
few experts suggested
that I write a few lines
on myself in this 3rd issue of the
Tortuga Post so that we all know
who the new SECOIN is. I have
of course no intention to praise
myself. I will simply say that the
National Captains present at the
Assembly in making their choice
must have concluded that I had a
few qualities. Therefore, my
name is Jorge Patricio Sapiains
Arnold, Brother “Americo’, a
descendant of a German emigrant
who arrived in Chile in 1888 with
a wave of Colonists, and of
French Basques and without
doubt a trace of Spanish and
native blood. I am 66 years old
and have been happily married to
Florence for 44 years. I am a civil
engineer and have been a Brother
of the Table of Santiago for 13
years, navigating on board my
boat in local waters, participating
in the world Zafs of Chile, the
Americas, Italy and Buenos
Aires. I have been Editor of El
Santiaguillo for 8 years as well as
of the revue Abordajes,
International Vigie for Chile and
GHM. These details, a bit heavy
perhaps, so that I be known better
and that our Fraternity be larger
and more amicable.

Barrault, qui vient de paraître
aux éditions Gallimard,
Pirates
des
mers
d ’ a u j o u r d ’h u i , e s t u n
document sur la piraterie
maritime contemporaine. Il
évoque les exactions
commises au cours des
dernières années, en
particulier de 2004 à 2006, en
raconte les circonstances
souvent dramatiques. La
piraterie maritime sévit
actuellement non seulement
dans le sud-est asiatique et le
détroit de Malacca mais aussi
dans l’océan indien, en
Afrique, en Amérique latine,
dans la mer des Caraïbes. Les
yachts ne sont pas épargnés,
comme en témoigne
l’assassinat de Peter Blake,
une tragédie qui exige de
poser la question de
l’opportunité de la possession
d’armes à bord d’un bateau de
plaisance. C’est un livre
passionnant, véritable roman
d’aventures maritimes vécues.

pas manquer de signaler une
parution récente, due à la
plume de son rédacteur
francophone. Dans les années
1980, Son Excellence était en
poste à Yaoundé au
Cameroun. Il a mis ses rares
moments de liberté à profit
pour explorer à bord d’un
pneumatique plus de 300 km
d’un fleuve du Sud du pays, le
Nyong. Voici les références

A message from the US National
Captain
As promised in the meeting in
Argentina, I got in touch with
Ted Dowty, the Captain of the
Bahamas Table. He reports “The
Brothers of the Table of Abaco
are very active”. The email
address that was listed for him is
no longer active. His correct
email is [email protected].
We knew that the Table was alive
and well. US Brothers visit there
frequently. In fact, Albert &
Elise, Joe & Maureen (Savannah
Table) and possibly Paul and
Erika (Fort Lauderdale) will be
here over the Christmas
Holidays. The have a party
planned at that time with several
new prospects.
Sadly, Marcel Albury has passed
away. Also, Sam Braxton’s
island is deserted and he as not
been seen in some time. Other
than that, things seem to be
progressing. They always are
quick to welcome visiting
Brothers.

Chile ha recibido un email del
Hno. Heinz Scheel de la Mesa
Luebeck-Travemuende donde
cuenta que las astillas del buque
Esmeralda que combatió en la
rada de Iquique en 1879 y que le
fueran entregadas durante la
visita al mausoleo del Capitán
Prat, durante el post zafarrancho
mundial a Chile, se encuentran
debidamente enmarcadas y
constituyen un orgullo y un
tesoro que compartirán
p e r i o di c a me n t e l a s n ao s
alemanas. Adjuntan además una
foto con los hermanos y el
cuadro.
Se encuentra en Chile el hermano
Maciej Krzeptowski de la mesa
de Szczecin de Polonia.
Permanecerá dos meses en
nuestro país; ha sido recibido por
la
nao
Santiago
y
Valparaíso y viaja al Sur, donde
saludará entre otras a las naos de
Valdivia, Punta Arenas y Puerto
Williams. Es su mayor deseo
visitar el Museo de la Hermandad
de la Costa donde quiere dejar
algunos recuerdos. A su regreso
se emitirá un informe de su viaje.

CHINA
La nao de Iquique de Chile, por
orden del capitán Nacional Taote
ha consolidado bases para la
creación de la nao de China.
Con la globalización económica
se ha concentrado gran cantidad
de personas de ese país en la
zona franca portuaria de la
ciudad de Iquique, gente que
viaja mucho, visita el lugar, hace
sus negocios y retorna a su patria,
con gran rotación de personal.
Muchos de ellos han conocido
por varios años de la Hermandad
de la Costa local, participado de
zafarranchos, se le ha prestado la
guarida para sus propias fiestas
nacionales y regresan con sabor a
hermandad. El hermano Luis
Jollan, chileno, de Iquique,
descendiente de padre chino y
madre chilena es el gran gestor
de este asalto de abordaje.
Contamos con la personal
colaboración del agregado de la
defensa de nuestra embajada en
Beijing, la empresa Terranova
Ltda y la Empresa Estatal
CHINA TRAVEL SERVICEHEAD OFFICE
de Beijing,
empresa mundialmente conocida,
por la importancia que tiene para
los chinos de usar sus contactos
para viajar, dentro y fuera de
China, tiene cerca de 426
Oficinas en China y alrededor de
26.000 empleados, con
funcionarios chinos que dominan
el idioma español.
Para el mes de Septiembre 2007
se planifica un viaje a China por
20 días en un grupo de 20
filibusteros, para hacer en lo
posible, un asentamiento físico
en el país y si es posible
enganchar a los posibles
muchachos que ya están en una
lista de postulantes.
Detalles del viaje y costos se
podrán dar por separado a quien
lo solicite, el financiamiento es
con apoyo del gobierno de la
República de China en su
programa de difusión.
La
tripulación mundial podría
también adherir a este plan.

Le Grand Frère de
France à l’Académie !
Notre frère Jean-Michel Barrault,
dit La Plume, Grand Frère de la
flotte de France pour 2006-2008,
a été élu à l’Académie de marine.
Cet organisme officiel accueille
une soixantaine de personnalités
éminentes du monde maritime,
amiraux, capitaines au long
cours, scientifiques tels que
océanographes, hydrographes,
ingénieurs du génie maritime,
juristes, historiens, écrivains,
peintres…
L’activité de
l’Académie comprend

notamment des conférences et
communications de haut niveau,
des participations à des travaux
juridiques, notamment avec la
Communauté européenne, des
voyages.
La Plume est un navigateur, avec
à son actif de multiples
croisières, dont un tour du monde
et demi sur son sloop avec sa
captive pour seul équipage.
Journaliste, il est l’un des
fondateurs de la course en
solitaire du Figaro. Editeur, il fut
le codirecteur de la collection
mer aux éditions Arthaud. Il est
l’un des quatorze membres
fondateurs du corps des écrivains
de marine et l’auteur de plus de
trente-cinq livres, la plupart
consacrés à la mer.

In January 19th to 20th, the
Brueder-der-Kueste Deutschland
started Celebrations on 30th
anniversary. Brothers and
Captives from Switzerland,
Belgium, England, Portugal, Italy
Netherlands and France and of
course, Representatives from all
four German Tables, joined on
the occasion of "bootduesseldorf" and remembered
the launch of Tisch Duesseldorf
30 years ago under the support
of Table Cagliari, Italy. 103
Brothers, Captives and Guests
were welcomed by the national
Captain Cl aus Groth at
Duesseldorf Yacht Club filled up
to the very last seat.
Tables Luebeck-Travemuende,
Berlin-Potsdam and Bavaria, will
host more visitors to come for
the River Float and
Gaeubodenfest in Bavaria, July
and August this year from the
US, Uruguay, Switzerland, Chile,
England, Italy and Belgium.
Berlin-Potsdam Table will send
Program on Christmas Goose
Fair, which was extremely
succesful last December, later the
year. For Your agenda, safe place

Notre Tournesol est parti, pour
toujours, vers la mer de
l'éternité!! André Kolly était un
de nos Frères le plus actifs et le
plus assidu. Toujours présent à
nos Boucans, il était de la partie
aux invitations des Frères des
Tables européennes. Passionné

de voile depuis longtemps, il
possédait plus d'un bateau et
passait plusieurs mois de l'année
en navigation en mer. Ses frères
des tables Suisses ne s'attendaient
pas à son départ ! Nous perdons
un ami chaleureux et un Frère très
attaché a notre Confrérie et à ses
valeurs.
Il nous a quitté si
soudainement que nous en
sommes très tristes. Il nous laisse
sur le quai et il va beaucoup nous
manquer.

host hotel (Norfolk Waterside
Marriott) has requested that each
attendee call the toll free number

own reservations. Specify your

for the Brotherhood of the Coast.
The meeting of the US Table
Captains will be held in
conjunction with this Zaf. It is
scheduled for Friday morning,
June 8, 2007 beginning at
8:00am. Coordination has begun
with our National Captain, Ursa
Major, to hold this meeting to a
limited amount of time since
there is not a lot to discuss. If all
goes well, we will do our best to
adjourn the meeting around
10:30am – this will allow for
other activities to take place in
the company of our Captives
(Sooks).
Hotel room cost: $159.00 per
night single or double occupancy
plus taxes ($180.67)
In 2007, the entire state of
Virginia and the nation celebrate
the 400th Anniversary of the
establishment of the first English
speaking colony in the new world
at Jamestown, VA.
This Zaf
will be held in conjunction with
Norfolk’s annual Harborfest
weekend and Norfolk’s tribute to
this anniversary celebration. Due
to the anniversary activities, this
Harborfest will be the host to the
largest floatilla of Tall Ships at
one location since the OpSail
2000 Harborfest. Already, the
City of Norfolk has commitments
from 20 of the world’s Tall Ships
and, if all goes well, there could
be as many as 30 – it will be
some show!!! Additionally, the
Absolute
registrations
2007!
If you have a vehicle, there will
be an additional nightly parking
fee.
NOTE: It is expected that this
Zaf will be a very popular event.
Make your commitment and
reservations as soon as possible
to permit the Chesapeake Bay
Table to make additional
arrangements if demand exceeds

Hermanos de la Costa. Es enviado libremente por Email a todos los Hermanos que se están inscritos en
BOC-Lista. Las Hermandades nacionales están
autorizadas para utilizarlo de acuerdo a sus necesidades:
copias, traducciones parciales, etc, con la condición sin
embargo que siempre se indique la fuente. Por su parte,
los Vigías internacionales comunicarán con uno u otro
de los redactores o a SECOIN las noticias de su
fraternidad. Estos comunicados serán escritos en una de
los cuatro idiomas oficiales de la fraternidad, y no
traducidos normalmente.
The Tortuga Post is the official news bulletin of the
Brotherhood of the Coast. It is sent free by e-mail to all
the Brothers who are on the BOC-List. The national
Brotherhoods are authorized to use it to fit their needs:
copies, partial translations, etc., with the condition that
the source always be indicated. For their part, the
International Lookouts will communicate the news of
their Brotherhood to one of editors or to SECOIN.
These official news will be written in one of the four
official languages of the Brotherhood and will normally
not be translated.
The Tortuga Post est le bulletin d'information officiel
des Frères de la Côte. Il est adressé gratuitement par email à tous les Frères qui figurent sur la BOC-List. Les
confréries nationales sont autorisées à l'utiliser au
mieux de leurs besoins: copies, traductions partielles,
etc., à la condition toutefois que la source soit toujours
indiquées.
Pour leur part, les Vigies internationales
communiqueront à l'un ou l'autre des rédacteurs ou à
SECOIN les nouvelles de leur confrérie. Ces
communiqués seront rédigés dans l'une des quatre
langues officielles de la Confrérie, et ne seront
normalement pas traduits.
