Planting a container grown tree
Coupez les branches mortes, malades,
brisées ou qui s'entrecroisent.
Cut off any dead, diseased, broken or
crossed branches.
Retirez la plante de son contenant en
prenant soin de ne pas trop briser la motte.
Remove the plant from the container,
trying to keep the root ball as intact as
possible.
Taillez les racines spiralées, au besoin.
Prune the roots if the plant is root bound.
Dégagez le dessus de la motte pour
localiser le collet de la plante. Mesurez la
hauteur de la motte par rapport à ce point.
Cette mesure correspond à la profondeur
du trou de plantation. La largeur de la
fosse doit être égale à 2 fois la largeur de
la motte.
Creusez le trou de plantation à la largeur
et à la profondeur adéquate et de manière
à ce que les parois soient en pentes. Si
vous plantez une haie ou si vous désirez
créer un massif, creusez des fosses
continues. Au besoin, amendez et fertilisez
la terre qui a été retirée.
Déposez la motte dans la fosse de
plantation. Assurez-vous que la plante est
bien droite et que le collet est à égalité
avec le sol.
Tuteurez si nécessaire.
Remplissez la fosse par couches
successives avec la terre qui a été mise de
côté. Compactez légèrement le sol autour
des racines. Ajoutez du terreau jusqu’au
niveau du sol fini et du collet, sans
recouvrir ce dernier.
Modelez une cuvette d’arrosage autour de
la fosse de plantation.
Arrosez abondamment et en profondeur.
Ajoutez de la terre au besoin.
Installez un paillis à l’intérieur de la cuvette
puis arrosez pour le maintenir en place. Le
paillis ne doit pas être en contact avec le
tronc.
Enlevez le matériau de protection et tout
ce qui se trouve sur le tronc (cordes,
étiquettes, etc.)

Open up the top of the root ball to expose
the plant’s collar. Measure the height of
the root ball to this point. This is how deep
your planting hole needs to be. The hole
should be twice as wide as the root ball.
Dig the planting hole, making sure that it is
wide and deep enough, with sloping sides.
If you are planting a hedge or creating a
mass planting, dig a continuous trench.
Set aside the soil from the hole, and
amend and fertilize it as necessary.
Place the plant in the planting hole, making
sure that it is straight and that the collar is
even with the ground.
Stake the plant, if necessary.
Backfill the hole, in layers, using the soil
you set aside when you dug it. Lightly
tamp the soil around the roots. Add more
soil until it is even with the ground level
and the plant’s collar, without covering the
collar.
Build up a shallow rim of soil to form a
saucer to trap water around the planting
hole.
Water thoroughly and deeply. Add more
soil if necessary.
Add mulch to the saucer and water it to
hold it in place. Make sure that the mulch
doesn’t touch the trunk.
Remove the wrapping and anything on the
trunk (twine, tags, etc.).
