FIDEL CASTRO’S REIGN, FROM EVERY ANGLE
A documentary on the dreams and disillusionment created by Fidel Castro’s revolution,
between the fifties and eighties.
The first chapter, THE DREAM, describes the origins and first years of the dream, up until
the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion. The second chapter, WAKE-UP CALL, opens with the 1962
Cuban Missile Crisis and shows growing awareness of the reality of the regime, leading
to the mass exodus of Cubans from Mariel Harbour in 1980.
A tiny communist bastion holding out against its giant U.S. neighbour, Cuba long fired the
imaginations of many, but the dark sides of Russia’s Cold War ally have since come to light.

Radio-Canada propose un documentaire sur le rêve et la désillusion qu’ont suscités
Fidel Castro et sa révolution, entre les années 50 et 80.
La premier chapitre, LE RÊVE, raconte la genèse et les premières années du rêve, jusqu’à
la tentative d’invasion de la Baie des cochons. S’ouvrant sur la crise des missiles de 1962,
le deuxième chapitre, LE RÉVEIL, décrit la prise de conscience de la réalité du régime,
jusqu’à l’exode par le port de Mariel.
Petit bastion communiste tenant tête au géant américain, Cuba a longtemps fait rêver, mais
on connaît maintenant les côtés sombres d’une expérience qui s’est longtemps confondue
avec la guerre froide.
