Design of new polyurethane-based hydrogels
Topic :
Hydrogels find numerous applications in medicine. The goal of this project is to develop
together with an industrial partner, new functional pre-polymers systems as a component of
polyurethane based hydrogels. The project will be constituted of the synthesis and
characterization of pre-polymers, the synthesis and preparation of hydrogels based on these
polymers and finally by evaluation of physico-chemical, physical and mechanical properties
of the resulting materials (swelling ratio, wettability, rheology, flexibility, mechanical
properties, roughness of the surface, etc…)
The laboratory and the team :
This postdoctoral position will be carried out in the frame of an industrial cooperation at the
laboratory of Photochemistry and Macromolecular Engineering (LPIM) in Mulhouse. The
project will be held within the team Chemistry and Physico-Chemistry of Polymers under the
supervision of Professors Sophie BISTAC and Jean-François STUMBE
Profile of the applicant:
The applicant must have strong competencies in the area of synthesis and characterisation of
polymers as well as in physico-chemistry of polymeric material. An experience in the specific
area of complex macromolecular architectures and / or of polyurethanes (chemistry and
physico-chemistry) is a must. In addition, experience in the domain of hydrogels will be
strongly appreciated. Finally, the applicant should have a strong ability in French and/ or in
English (spoken and written).

Préparation de nouveaux hydrogels à base polyuréthane
Présentation du sujet :
Les hydrogels présentent de nombreuses applications dans le domaine du médical. L’objectif
de ce projet est de développer en partenariat avec un industriel de nouveaux prépolymères
fonctionnels en tant que constituant d’hydrogels polyuréthanes. Le projet s’articulera entre
une partie synthèse et caractérisation des prépolymères, puis à l’élaboration d’hydrogels à
partir de ces polymères et enfin en l’étude physico-chimique, physique et mécanique des
matériaux obtenus (taux de gonflement, mouillabilité, flexibilité, rhéologie, résistance
mécanique, rugosité de surface, etc….)
Présentation du laboratoire :
Ce contrat postdoctoral sera effectué dans le cadre d’une coopération industrielle au
laboratoire de Photochimie et d’Ingénierie Macromoléculaires (LPIM) à Mulhouse, plus
particulièrement au sein de l’équipe Chimie et Physico-Chimie des Polymère sous la direction
des professeurs Sophie BISTAC et Jean-François STUMBE
Profil du candidat :
Le candidat devra présenter des compétences solides dans le domaine de la synthèse et de la
caractérisation de polymères, mais aussi en physico-chimie des matériaux polymères. Une
expérience dans le domaine des polymères à architectures macromoléculaires complexes et/ou
dans le domaine des polyuréthanes (chimie et physico-chimie) sera indispensable. Une
expérience dans le domaine des hydrogels sera fortement appréciée. Enfin, il sera demandé au
candidat une très bonne maitrise du français et/ou de l’anglais.
