L’Afrique francophone: recherches
A worksheet and multiple-choice quiz about four francophone countries (Benin,
Cameroun, Mali and Senegal) in West Africa. The resource is based on some
country fact files (fiches pays) from the Canadian website www.in-terre-actif.com.
Objectives
 To develop student awareness and knowledge of four French-speaking countries in
West Africa.
 To develop confidence and ability in reading strategies by exposing students to
authentic texts.

Use of resources
Students can either work individually or in groups to find out about these countries and
complete the grid in the worksheet. The relevant pages of the downloadable pdf files in
the country links above can be printed out or students can access the information online.
Students should be encouraged to scan texts for key information and to intelligently guess
the meaning of words they don’t know through context / recognition of cognates.
The quiz can serve as a plenary, in which students could use mini-whiteboards in their
groups to give their response (A, B, C or D) each time, before revealing the correct answer.
Students could keep their own score of how many answers they knew.
