Editorial
Dear members, dear parents,
We are pleased to be able to present to you this first issue of Ad
Parentes in the school year 2008-2009. There have been several
important and interesting events both before and after the school
holidays that we have been looking forward to inform you about.
First of all, it is our pleasure to include in this issue of Ad Parentes
a list of what the hardworking baccalaureates of 2008 decided to
do following their graduation. Also, we are proud to present the list
of prize winning graduates rewarded for their extraordinary
accomplishments in specific school or extracurricular subjects and
activities.
We are also pleased to include a list of class delegates with e-mail
addresses for the maternelle and the primary cycle and a list with
the names of the principal teachers in the second cycle. We hope
this small compilation of practical information will come in handy in
the course of the new school year.
As you may have noticed from the cover we are also able to share
with you some information and a number of photos from the last
Fête de l‟Ecole.
Finally, with this issue of the Ad Parentes we would like to inform
you about a number of issues related to the Parent Association‟s
(the APEEE‟s) activities, including the upcoming General Assembly
on 24th November 2008. Allow us to use this opportunity to ask to
consider joining the Association and thereby offer your contribution
to ensure greater influence through unity for the parents of the
pupils in the European School. Inside this newsletter you will find
all the information you need to sign up.

Cela nous rend heureux de vous presenter ce premier numéro de
Ad Parentes de l‟année scolaire 2008-2009. Il y a eu plusieurs
évènements importants et intéressants avant et après les conge
d‟été que nous sommes impatients de vous communiquer.
Tout d‟abord, veuillez trouver dans ce numéro de Ad Parentes une
liste de ce que font les bachéliers 2008. Nous sommes également
fier de presenter la liste des prix pour divers accomplissments
académiques, périscolaires.
Ce numéro comprend également une liste des délégués de classe
pour l‟année en cours avec addresses email et noms des
professeurs principaux du cycle secondaire, en esperant que ces
informations pratiques vous seront utiles pendant l‟année.
Comme vous pourriez constater de la page de couverture, nous
pouvons également partager avec vous certains informations et
images de la dernière Fête de l‟Ecole.
Finalement, avec ce numéro de Ad Parentes nous souhaitons vous
signaler quelques aspects des travaux de l‟APEEE, y-compris l‟
Assemblée Générale qui qura lieu le 24 novembre 2008.
Permettez-nous de vous inciter à rejoindre l‟APEEE si vous ne
l‟avez pas encore fair afin de travailler ensemble pour la benefice
des enfants et et parents de l‟Ecole Européenne. Au sein de ce

What is the A.P.E.E.E. for?
À quoi sert l'A.P.E.E.E.?
The A.P.E.E.E. is the Parents Association of the European Schools in
Luxembourg (Association des Parents d'Elèves des Ecole Européennes
à Luxembourg). It is a non-profit organisation registered under
Luxembourg law. Detailed objectives are set out in its Articles of
Association (Statut).
The principal aim of the A.P.E.E.E. is to foster open
communication and provide a medium through which parents
of current students can develop their interest in the education
of their children, participate in and support the work of the
school, becoming genuine partners in the decisions that affect
children and families - and thereby enhance the quality of the
student and parent experience during their time associated
with the European Schools in Luxembourg.
Le sigle A.P.E.E.E. désigne l'association des parents d'élèves des
écoles européennes à Luxembourg. C'est une association sans but
lucratif de droit luxembourgeois. Ses objectifs détaillés sont fixés dans
ses statuts

vise
principalement
à
promouvoir
une
communication ouverte et à servir d'outil permettant aux
parents d'élèves de cultiver leur intérêt dans l'éducation de
leurs enfants, d'apporter leur concours et leur soutien au
travail de l'école, d'avoir une position de véritables
partenaires dans la prise de décisions ayant une incidence sur
les enfants et sur leur famille - et d'ainsi faire de leur période
de fréquentation des écoles européennes de Luxembourg une
expérience positive.
What does that have to do with me?

Educational research has long shown that children do best when
families are involved in and understand the schools which their
children are attending, and teachers/school administrations value the
views and contributions of parents.
All parents are represented by the A.P.E.E.E., which is the only such
organisation officially recognised by the European School statutes.
The A.P.E.E.E. is therefore the only valid representative as concerns
the school and third parties. A.P.E.E.E. officials take part in various
formal school committees, including the Administrative Board (Conseil
d'Administration), the Education Council (Conseil d'Education), and the
Health & Safety Committee (Comité de Santé et Sécurité).
La recherche en sciences éducatives a démontré depuis longtemps
que les enfants obtiennent de meilleurs résultats lorsque leur famille
est impliquée et comprend le fonctionnement de l'école qu'ils
fréquentent et que, par ailleurs, les enseignants et les administrations
scolaires apprécient les observations et les contributions des parents.
Tous les parents sont représentés par l'A.P.E.E.E. qui est la seule
association de ce type reconnues officiellement dans les statuts de
l'école européenne. L'A.P.E.E.E. est donc le seul représentant valable
au regard de l'école et des tiers. Les représentants de l'A.P.E.E.E.
siègent aux différents comités de l'école qui comprennent le conseil
d'administration, le conseil d'éducation et le comité de santé et de
sécurité.

The A.P.E.E.E. helps to organise extracurricular activities (activités
périscolaires), to manage the school canteen, to coordinate language
exchanges (échanges linguistiques), to arrange school trips (voyages
scolaires), to run the annual summer fair (fête de l'école), to arrange
book sales, to supervise discos and other events - and collaborates
with related organisations, including the Transport Association
(ATSEE), the Library Association (Mots-de-Zaza) and the Study Centre
Association (APCPE).
It maintains a social fund to provide financial assistance under certain
conditions, and raises money to donate equipment and materials to
the school. In recent years this has included buying musical
equipment, sponsoring school sports teams, purchasing playground
equipment, donating transport, and contributing to other school
projects.
The A.P.E.E.E. provides advice to parents on all issues relating to
education, including category III fees (minerval), integration of SEN
children, learning support (rattrapage), SWALS, discipline, bullying
(harcèlement), choosing between subject options, transfers between
the nursery (maternelle), primary (primaire) and secondary
(secondaire) cycles, private tuition, administrative attribution
Lux.1/Lux.2.
L'A.P.E.E.E. apporte son soutien aux activités périscolaires, à la
gestion de la cantine, à la coordination des échanges linguistiques, à
l'organisation de voyages scolaires, de la fête annuelle de l'école ou de
la vente de livres. Elle supervise les soirées dansantes et autres
événements et collabore avec d'autres associations apparentées telles
que l'association des transports scolaires de l'école européenne
(ATSEE), l'association qui gère la bibliothèques («Les Mots de Zaza»)
ou l'association des parents du centre polyvalent de l'enfance (APCPE).
Elle entretient une caisse de solidarité destinée à fournir une aide
financière à certaines conditions et collecte des fonds afin de faire des
donations d'équipement et de matériel à l'école. Au cours des
dernières années, cela s'est concrétisé notamment par l'achat de
matériel pour l'enseignement de la musique, la subvention des équipes
de sport de l'école, l'acquisition d'équipements pour la cour de
récréation, l'offre de moyens de transport et la contribution à d'autres
projets de l'école.
L'A.P.E.E.E. offre des conseils aux parents sur tous les sujets relatifs à
l'éducation, tels que le minerval des élèves de catégorie III,
l'intégration des enfants à besoins spécifiques (SEN), les dispositifs de
rattrapage (LS), l'accueil des élèves sans section linguistique (SWALS),
la discipline, le harcèlement, le choix des options, le passage de la
maternelle au primaire et du primaire au secondaire, les cours privés
ou la carte scolaire (inscription à Lux. 1 ou à Lux. 2).
How do you keep me informed?
The A.P.E.E.E. coordinates the network of class delegates and
arranges various information evenings and other events and activities.
As well as a website ( www.apeee.lu ), the A.P.E.E.E. produces regular
information briefings for members by publishing and distributing the
school magazine "Ad Parentes" and operating a permanent
secretariat.

What does it cost to join?
Combien coûte l'adhésion?
A.P.E.E.E. membership is inexpensive (the subscription is currently
EUR 24 per family per year). It gives the right to vote on policy, and to
stand for election to the management committee. WE NEED AND
APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT. To ensure your registration is up to
date, please complete the registration form below and return it to the
address on the back page.
La cotisation à l'A.P.E.E.E. est d'un montant modique (actuellement
24 EUR par an et par famille). Adhérer donne le droit de se prononcer
sur les choix de l'association et de se présenter à l'élection du comité

Aux élèves, parents, enseignants, sponsors et visiteurs!
C'est grâce à vous tous, qu'une fois de plus, la fête d'été de l'Ecole a connu un franc succès et ce malgré un temps mitigé.
MERCI aux élèves de l'école maternelle pour leur beau spectacle, à ceux du primaire pour leur prestation d'animation tout
au long de la journée, à ceux du secondaire pour leur participation active qui aux stands nationaux, qui à la vente de
tombolas ou à la participation au marché aux puces ……
MERCI aux parents pour la tenue des stands nationaux, leur approvisionnement, à ceux qui ont surveillé et animé les jeux,
aux volontaires présents pour aider et démonter les stands, à effectuer différentes tâches tout au long de la journée et…. à
ranger et nettoyer.
MERCI à l'école pour son soutien,

Le bilan financier est plus que satisfaisant, l'APEEEL ayant réalisé un bénéfice net de 7.311,66 € (après

Soit un total de 5.109,69 €, auxquels s'ajoutent les recettes des autres stands, des jeux et de la tombola.
Le "Comité Tiers Monde", les "Mots de Zaza" et "Friends of the Secondary Library" participent également mais gardent et
disposent de leurs propres recettes.

Chaque année, le bénéfice de la fête est destiné à un cycle d'études. Cette année il sera réparti entre le primaire de
Luxembourg I et celui de Luxembourg II et servira à équiper en matériel les salles de musique des deux écoles.
Il est évidemment impossible de remercier tout le monde nominativement, mais je ne voudrais pas oublier ceux dont le
travail est moins apparent : je pense particulièrement à notre secrétaire, aux concierges, aux "Messieurs Securitas", aux
employés de l'atelier de l'école, qui répondent présents tous les ans et participent à la réussite de la fête.
N'oubliez pas d'être au rendez-vous l'année prochaine, car sans la collaboration des parents, des élèves et des
enseignants l'organisation de cette fête n'est pas possible.
ENCORE MERCI ET BRAVO À TOUS !

It is thanks to you all that, once again, the summer fair of the School was a great success despite changeable weather conditions.

flea market.
THANK YOU to the parents for their support and help in the national stands, their supplies, to those who supervised and managed
the games, to the volunteers on hand to help set up and dismantle the stands, to carry out various tasks throughout the day and to
clear up at the end of the day.

The balance sheet is more than satisfactory, the APEEE having realised a net profit of 7,311.66 € (after deduction of all expenses).

Each year, the surplus generated from the fair is targeted to one or other of the study cycles. This year it will be distributed
between the Luxembourg I primary and the Luxembourg II primary and will be used to purchase equipment for the music rooms of
both schools.
It is obviously impossible to thank everyone by name, but I would not like to forget those whose work is less apparent: I think
particularly of our secretary, to the concierges, to the security personnel, to the employees of the school workshopsl, who are
present every year and contribute to the success of the fair.
Mark your diaries already for next year, because without the collaboration of the parents, of the pupils and of the teachers the
organisation of this fair is not possible.

CATEGORY III COURT CASE
Up-date and Background
On April 9th of this year, 25 Category 3 parents met and took the decision to sue the Luxembourg European School for the
fee increases dating from the school year 2003-04 to the present. The decision was contingent on at least doubling the
number of families willing to commit to such a legal action by June 15 th, in order to keep the lawyer and court fees viable.
The goal was reached, and to date there are 69 Cat3 families registered for this action.
A history of the Cat3 situation, for those of you who are new to the school:
As the ES is in effect a public and not a private school, the Cat3 school fees had always reflected this situation, and had been
marginal, owing to the fact that the infrastructure of the school was in place for the Category 1 families, who do not pay
“school fees”, but have the costs of schooling their children figured into their salaries. Cat3 students were always only
admitted when there was space in the classroom, so did not actually add cost.
In 1994, the Board of Governors, who vote on and establish school fees, set up a 10-year plan where the fees would double
at the end of that period. At that time the cost of a pupil in Secondary was 51,091 LUF or €1277. (For the school-year 2003,
the cost of a pupil in Secondary was €3657).
During the 1990‟s, in some language sections, families were actually invited to join the school, to help maintain healthy
pedagogical numbers in the classrooms, which sometimes helped to preserve whole language sections.
In 2001, the BoG departed from their plan, and raised the prices by 10% for school year 2001-02, and by 9.5% for school
year 2002-03.
In 2002, the Board of Governors, under budgetary pressure from the Commission, decided to dramatically increase the
school fees for Cat3 families, raising the fees by 33% for the school year 2003-04, and by 13% for 2004-05. Their goal was
to continue to raise the prices so that they would reflect the “real costs” of schooling our children, or what it would cost if
the ES were a private and not a public school. However, there has never been any official calculation about what the “real”
cost per pupil would be throughout the system of the ES. Ideas were tossed around of differentiating fees between existing
and new students. There were proposals in 2003 of a 5-year plan that would take the fees for Secondary students up to
€10,400 for the 2008-09 school year we are presently in, and €12,500 for Secondary students in the school year 2009-10.
These were scary years for parents who already had children in the school, who had counted on their children going through
to the European Baccalaureate, and who were hoping to educate their other younger children in the European School as
well. Obviously, the further along a child was in the system, the less chance they would have of being able to transfer
successfully and survive in the National system. Some families left the school because they were priced out, others left
fearing that they would be priced out in the future.
Parents fought back by lobbying the BoG and all other European Institutions. Brussels went to court to fight the increases,
and won in the Court of First Instance in 2006. The Brussels ES went into Appeal, and the parents are awaiting the
outcome. In Luxembourg we tried fighting back by registering complaints with the EO, an unfortunately lengthy procedure,
which did not bring us justice.
Today:
The 69 parents signed up to take the Luxembourg ES to National Court had to make an initial down-payment of €250,
towards legal fees that should not exceed €26.000. The next step was to organise these families into a data-base, according
to the years of enrolment of their children, and according to which of the two Luxembourg ES they paid their fees. As
children from the same family are sometimes billed and pay fees to both schools, or have paid, over the years, for the same
child to both schools, the records are very complicated. Thankfully, Peter de Vos, one of the Cat3 parents subscribed in the
action, stepped forward this summer and volunteered his time and expertise to create a working data-base, into which the
parents have submitted their details. It has been sent to the lawyer, Marleen Watté, herself a parent of a former student of
the school, who has been working on the Cat3 case from the beginning, and who is well-familiar with the history, as she also
registered our complaints to the European Ombudsman.
The case will be filed before the 15th of October of this year, the end of the 5-year delay period.
The first hurdle will be to see if the Luxembourg National Court deems itself competent to handle our case.
The objectives of the case go beyond 69 parents recuperating the money they have over-paid. The “plans” of the BoG to
elevate the fees to the extent they talked of in 2002 have not materialized. We can only conclude that this is due to the
court actions taken in Brussels and the complaints registered to the European Ombudsman in Luxembourg. Parents have

never had any real security about fees, as we have to pay whatever fees are established by the Board of Governors, and the
Board can always find justifications for more increases in the future. Therefore we can never be truly complacent. Our court
action should act as an insurance policy against future increases above inflation, and will benefit all Cat3 families. The Lux
APEEE is contributing €2500 towards this action.

Le 9 avril de cette année, 25 parents de catégorie 3 se sont rencontrés et ont pris la décision de poursuivre l'école
européenne de Luxembourg pour les augmentations des frais d'inscription depuis l'année scolaire 2003-04 à ce jour. La
décision était tributaire d'un doublement du nombre de familles disposées à intenter une action en justice d'ici le 15 juin, afin
de maintenir les honoraires d'avocat et de justice, à un niveau raisonnable. L'objectif a été atteint, et il y a à ce jour 69
familles de Cat. 3 qui ont souscrit à cette action.
Ci-dessous, un résumé de la situation des CAT 3, pour ceux parmi vous qui sont nouveaux à l'école :
Puisque l'Ecole européenne est en réalité une école publique et non une école privée, les frais de scolarité des Cat 3 avaient
toujours reflété cette situation, et avaient été marginaux, à cause du fait que l'infrastructure de l'école était en place pour les
familles de Cat 1, qui ne payaient pas de frais de scolarité et bénéficiaient d'une indemnité intégrée à leurs salaires. Les
étudiants de Cat. 3 n'ont toujours été admis que s'il y avait de la place dans les classes et n'ont pas augmenté le coût d'une
classe.
En 1994, le conseil supérieur, qui décide et établit les frais de scolarité, a prévu un plan décennale au bout duquel les frais
de scolarités auraient doublés À ce moment-là le coût d'un élève du secondaire était de LUF 51.091 ou €1277. (Pour l'année
scolaire 2003, le coût d'un élève du secondaire était de €3657).
Dans l'es années 90, dans certaines sections linguistiques, les familles ont même été invitées à rejoindre l'école, pour aider à
maintenir un nombres d'élèves pédagogiquement sain dans certaines classes, ce qui a parfois permis de préserver des
sections linguistiques entières.
En 2001, le Conseil supérieur s'est écarté de son plan, et a augmenté les prix de 10% pour l'année scolaire 2001-02, et de
9,5% pour l'année scolaire 2002-03.
En 2002, le conseil supérieur, sous la pression budgétaire de la Commission, a décidé d'augmenter considérablement les frais
de scolarité pour les familles CAT3, augmentant ces frais de 33% pour l'année scolaire 2003-04, et de 13% pour 2004-05.
L'objectif était de continuer à augmenter les prix de sorte qu'ils refléteraient les coûts réels de l‟instruction de nos enfants, ou
ce qu'il en coûterait si l'Ecole européenne était une école privée et non une école publique..
Néanmoins, il n'y a jamais eu de calcul officiel sur ce qui pourrait être considéré comme "coût réel" par élève dans tout le
système des écoles européennes. Des suggestions ont été faites pour différencier les frais entre les étudiants existants et les
nouveaux. En 2003, il y a eu des propositions pour un plan quinquennal qui aurait porté les frais pour les étudiants de
secondaires à €10,400 pour l'année scolaire actuelle 2008-09 et à €12,500 pour les étudiants secondaires pour l'année
scolaire 2009-10.
Celles-ci étaient des années effrayantes pour les parents qui avaient déjà des enfants à l'école, qui avaient compté sur le fait
que leurs enfants réussiraient le baccalauréat européen, et qui espéraient que leurs autres enfants, plus jeunes, puissent
également bénéficier d'une instruction à l'école européenne. Évidemment, plus longtemps l'enfant était dans le système,
moins la possibilité de pouvoir opérer avec succès un transfert vers le système national et y réussir était grande. Certaines

familles ont quitté l'école parce qu'elles ne pouvaient plus payer, d'autres de crainte de ne pouvoir assumer la charge
finanicère à l'avenir.
Les parents ont riposté en faisant pression sur le Conseil supérieur et toutes les autres institutions européennes. Bruxelles
est allé en justice pour combattre les augmentations, et a gagné en première instance en 2006. Les écoles européennes de
Bruxelles ont interjeté appel et les parents sont en attente du jugement. À Luxembourg, nous avons essayé de nous
défendre en enregistrant des plaintes auprès de l'Ombudsman, malheureusement une procédure longue, qui ne nous a pas
apporté satisfaction.
Aujourd'hui :
Les 69 parents qui ont signé pour assigner l'école européenne de Luxembourg devant les tribunaux nationaux, ont dû verser
un premier accompte de €250, pour le paiement des frais juridiques qui ne devraient pas dépasser €26.000. L' étape
suivante a été d'organiser ces familles dans une base de données, selon les années d'inscription de leurs enfants et selon
l'école à laquelle ils ont payés les frais de scolarité. Comme les enfants d'une même famille sont parfois facturés et payent
des frais de scolarité aux deux écoles, ou les ont payé, au fil des années, pour le même enfant aux deux écoles, les
enregistrements sont très compliqués.
Heureusement, Peter de Vos, l'un des parents CAT 3 ayant souscrit à l'action, a mis son temps et ses compétences à notre
disposition cet été pour créer une base de données de travail interactive où les parents peuvent détailler les informations les
concernant. Ces informations ont été envoyées à l'avocat, Marleen Watté, elle-même parent d'un ancien étudiant de l'école,
qui s'est consacrée au problème Cat3 depuis le début, et qui est bien familiarisée avec le dossier, puisque c'est elle qui a
également enregistré nos plaintes auprès du médiateur européen.
L'affaire sera déposée avant le 15 octobre de cette année, délai d'expiration de la période de cinq ans. Le premier obstacle à
franchir sera celui de savoir si la Cour nationale luxembourgeoise se considère compétente pour traiter notre cas.
Les objectifs de l'affaire vont au-delà de la récupération par 69 parents de l'argent qu'ils ont payé en trop. Les projets du
Conseil supérieur d'augmenter les frais scolaires jusqu'au degré dont ils parlait en 2002 ne se sont pas concrétisés. Nous ne
pouvons que conclure que cela est dû aux actions en justice intentées à Bruxelles et aux plaintes enregistrées par le
médiateur européen à Luxembourg. Les parents n'ont jamais eu aucune réelle sécurité quant aux frais de scolarité, puisque
nous devons payer n'importe quelle somme établie par le conseil supérieur, et celui-ci peut toujours trouver des
justifications pour d'autres augmentations à l'avenir. Par conséquent, nous ne pouvons jamais être vraiment confiants. Notre
action en justice devrait agir comme une police d'assurance contre les augmentations supérieures à l'inflation, et profitera à
toutes les familles Cat 3. L'APEEEL contribue avec €2500 à cette action.

Connaissez-vous les Mots de Zaza ?
Il ne s‟agit pas des mots collectionnés par Zaza la souris du
fameux livre de Jacqueline Cohen mais bien de l‟association
des parents d‟élèves qui gèrent les bibliothèques Maternelle et
Primaire.
Quel est le principe de fonctionnement
bibliothèque « les Mots de Zaza » ?
de
la
Lancée avec un don de la part de l‟APEEE en 1994, la
bibliothèque est officiellement enregistrée en A.S.B.L
(Association sans but lucratif). Elle est divisée en sections
linguistiques. Sa gestion est assurée par des parents
volontaires, pour chacune des sections linguistiques.
Elle est financée grâce aux contributions volontaires des
parents d‟élèves.
Divers événements organisés par le Comité comme la Foire
aux livres annuelle ou un stand à la Fête de l‟école avec
notamment le très apprécié lâcher de ballons permettent
également d‟enrichir constamment les collections de livres.
Quels types de livres sont disponibles ?
Outre les romans de fiction, on y trouve des ouvrages dans des domaines aussi divers que les Sciences, l‟Histoire, la
Géographie, l‟Architecture, les Arts, la Bande Dessinée, le Bricolage ou la Cuisine. De quoi faire rêver, penser, bricoler
et surtout aimer les livres à nos enfants.
Comment sont gérés les livres ?
Les livres sont achetés pour les différentes langues et domaines précités. Ils sont ensuite étiquetés et enregistrés par
les gestionnaires des sections correspondantes et par les bibliothécaires. Lors des visites hebdomadaires ou bimensuelles des classes, on les aide à choisir, on gère les pertes ou les retards. Les livres retournés sont rangés après
avoir éventuellement été réparés ou nettoyés. Mais le plus agréable est quand même l‟histoire qu‟on leur raconte
surtout en Maternelle et petites classes primaires.

Do you know the Mots de Zaza?
We’re not talking about the words collected by Zaza the mouse of the famous book by
Jacqueline Cohen, but the association of parents who manage the nursery school and
primary school libraries.
What are the operating principles of the "Mots de Zaza" library?
Launched with a donation from the APEEE in 1994, the library is an officially
registered A.S.B.L (non profit making association). It is divided into linguistic
sections. It is managed by parents on a voluntary basis, for each linguistic
section.
It is financed by voluntary contributions.
Various events organised by the Committee, such as the annual Book Fair or the
traditional stand at the School Summer Fête with it’s popular ‘ballon release’
feature, also allow us to constantly enrich the collections of books.
What types of books are available?
In addition to fiction novels, one can find works in various fields such as
Sciences, History, Geography, Architecture, Arts, Sports, Religion, Do-it-yourself
or Cookery. Anything to encourage a love of literature amongst children.
How are the books managed?
Books are purchased in the various languages for the fields referred to above. They
are then labelled and recorded by the managers of the corresponding sections and by
the school librarians. During the weekly or fortnightly visits of the classes to
the library, volunteers help the children to choose books, and chase up lost books
and late returns. Returned books are arranged on the shelves after having been
repaired or cleaned as necessary. But the most enjoyable part is the telling of
stories especially in Nursery school and early years of primary.
You wish to contribute?
As you can understand, managing the library requires considerable effort by the
volunteers. If you wish to help us with the organisation of events, the management
of the library or to read stories to the children, we would be very happy to count
you among us!

Library in Secondary School
The Association 'Friends of the Library' was created in 2005 by a small group
of parents. Our aim is to improve and increase the choice of books available in
the English Section of the Secondary Library. The school has a very good
library staffed by dedicated librarians but they and the teachers are constantly
striving to improve and update the collection. Your children would also like to
find the latest, up to date stories from their favourite authors in the school
library.
We ask for an annual financial donation of €10 - as happens in the primary
school.

Qui sommes-nous ?
Le Comité Tiers-Monde de l‟École européenne de Luxembourg existe depuis 1987. Il a été fondé par un groupe de parents, professeurs et
élèves, dans le but de sensibiliser les jeunes aux problèmes du Tiers Monde et de venir en aide aux enfants en difficulté.
Que faisons-nous ?
Le Comité organise diverses manifestations de sensibilisation et de collecte de fonds au sein de l‟École: le marché de Noël, la natation
parrainée, les buffets des entractes des théâtres scolaires, des expositions, des concerts, etc.
Rappelons que les 100% des fonds collectés vont aux projets soutenus et qu’aucun voyage n’a jamais été subventionné par
notre Comité.
Il soutient des projets d‟aide au développement dans les régions les plus défavorisées du monde.
Il s‟engage envers des projets à long terme.
Au cours de l‟année scolaire 2007/ 2008 : 10 000 € furent répartis entre des projets situés au Brésil, Mali et en Bolivie en janvier
2008 et 12 000 € entre des projets situés au Togo, R.D. du Congo et en Ethiopie en mai 2008.
De plus, une fois par an, il accorde une aide ponctuelle aux projets soumis par les membres de la communauté scolaire.
En 2007/2008 un montant de 19 100 € fut réparti entre les neuf projets adoptés par le groupe: au Burkina Faso (4x), Maroc, Vietnam,
R.D. du Congo, Philippines et Kenya.
Le Comité remercie chaleureusement tous ceux et celles qui ont soutenu et soutiennent encore son action.

Les problèmes du tiers-monde vous intéressent ? Vous avez très peu de temps à consacrer à une cause humanitaire ? (1h par quinzaine)
