HISTORY CHARMEX
The history of Montres Charmex SA goes as far back as 1926. This was the year when Max Bürgin,
the father of today's owner and CEO started his apprenticeship in one of the leading watch factories
near Basel, Switzerland. His exceptional talents soon caught the attention of the management - he
was promoted and eventually made head of the technical department. What he really wanted though
was to have his own watch business, pursuing the traditional art of manufacturing state-of-the-art
timepieces. His dream finally came true and in 1989 his son Manfred Bürgin together with his wife
Kathleen joined the by then prospering company. 1999 their son Frank M. Bürgin followed and thus
continued the family's tradition. Manufacturing bespoke timepieces using but choice materials of the
highest quality remains the credo of Montres Charmex SA to this very day. The brand name
CHARMEX OF SWITZERLAND® has for decades been a synonym for bespoke Swiss Made watches.
Superb engineering and the use of choice materials only are a treasured legacy born out of a long
tradition of craftsmanship.
Montres Charmex SA produces the CHARMEX OF SWITZERLAND and the SWISS MILITARY as well
as the CX SWISS MILITARY WATCH lines. The brand names CHARMEX OF SWITZERLAND® and
CX SWISS MILITARY WATCH ® are registered worldwide. Combining bespoke craftsmanship and
superb quality with an elegant design is at the core of the Charmex philosophy. Reliability &
precision describe best the credo Charmex has followed since the days of Max Bürgin, founder of
Montres Charmex SA. Modern, high-end watch movements made in Switzerland represent a near
century old tradition and are used in all Charmex timepieces.

Perfection avec tradition
L’histoire de Montres Charmex commence en 1926, quand Max Bürgin, le grand-père de l’actuel
directeur Frank M. Bürgin, s’engage dans son apprentissage d’horloger dans le village suisse de
Bubendorf. En ce temps-là, la production industrielle de masse n’avait pas encore atteint le secteur
horloger, et les produits rivalisaient de qualité. Une montre n’était pas un accessoire, mais l’objet
d’une vie, et les manufactures affichaient fièrement leurs compétences artisanales. De nos jours,
Montres Charmex s’efforce de réaliser des montres qui préservent et magnifient la qualité, le design
et la fonctionnalité des modèles historiques, se distinguant ainsi de la fabrication à grande échelle
propre à notre époque. L’entreprise aime rappeler les paroles de Sir Henry Royce, le cofondateur de
Rolls-Royce : « Exigez la perfection dans tout ce que vous faites. Prenez le meilleur et améliorez-le.
Quand il n'existe pas, inventez-le ! » L’attention pour les détails les plus subtils, la qualité inimitable

Perfektion mit Tradition
Die Geschichte von Montres Charmex SA begann im Jahre 1926, als Max Bürgin, der Grossvater des
heutigen Firmenleiters Frank Bürgin, seine Uhrmacherlehre im schweizerischen Bubendorf antrat.
Zu jener Zeit hatte die industrielle Massenfertigung noch keinen Einzug in die Uhrenindustrie
gehalten, und gute Produkte mussten sich lediglich gegen bessere Produkte behaupten. Eine Uhr
stellte kein Accessoire dar, sondern war eine Anschaffung fürs Leben, und die Manufakturen waren
mit Recht stolz auf ihre meisterlichen Fähigkeiten. Heutzutage ist Montres Charmex SA bemüht,
Uhren herzustellen, welche die Qualität, das Design und die Funktionalität der Vorväter
perfektionieren und sich wohltuend von der Massenware der heutigen Zeit abheben. Gerne erinnert
sich die Firma an die Worte von Sir Henry Royce, dem Mitgründer von Rolls-Royce: «Strebe nach
Perfektion in allem, was du tust. Nimm das Beste, das es gibt, und perfektioniere es. Wenn es nicht
existiert, so erfinde es». Montres Charmex SA ist der festen Überzeugung, dass wahre Perfektion
