PROFILE Philip Puimège ∙ “Burgerlijk ingenieur”: Chemical technology – great distinction – at Ghent University (June 2011) ∙ Started working with ExxonMobil in September 2011 “As a young engineer I have a wide variety of interests. Therefore, I would like to taste the different elements of the business.” All different jobs you were in at ExxonMobil (or other companies if any) What keeps you motivated in the every-day challenges of your (current or past) jobs? I started working as an inspection engineer for the offsite facilities. The development of cost-efficient inspection and maintenance strategies based on risk-analyses are my major responsibility. Beside this I also act as a University-team member for Ghent University. At the beginning of your career, you immediately receive responsibility. The day-to-day challenges offer a lot of opportunities to gain more experience from a technical point of view and develop you as a person. Every day, you are challenged to search for new, creative, cost-effective solutions. In order to do so, teamwork and communication skills are probably as important as technical capabilities. The open door policy and down to earth mentality creates an enjoyable atmosphere among colleagues. To work for the largest, privately owned, oil and gas company in the world implies a new challenge, every day…! Why did you choose ExxonMobil? As a young engineer I have a wide variety of interests. Therefore, I would like to taste the different elements of the business. An international company such as ExxonMobil offers me this possibility due to a rigorous system of job-rotation and a very well developed training plan. As a new hire, you arrive in a group of young and dynamic engineers where you will always have back-up and support from your supervisor and more experienced colleagues.
