Rob Ryan est né en 1962 à Akrotiri, sur l'île de Chypre. Il a étudié les Beaux Arts au Trent Polytechnic
et au Royal College of Art de Londres où il s'est spécialisé dans les techniques d'impressions.
Depuis 2002 il utilise essentiellement du papier découpé comme medium. A travers un travail plastique
minitieux de découpe de papier, il s'adapte très rapidement à la Sérigraphie plus facilement à
transposer sur la céramique, les tissus, les découpes au laser et toutes sortes de surfaces.
Son travail montre souvent des figures fantasques appariées à des textes de scènettes sentimentales,
sérieuses, déclaratives et occasionnellement humouristiques dont certaines sont autobiographiques.
Rob Ryan a collaboré avec Paul Smith, Liberty of London, Tatty Devine et Vogue en autres.
Ses œuvres ont déjà fait l'objet d'expositions comme "The Stras All day Too" à la London's Air Gallery et
"Your Job to take this world apart and put it back together again…but even better!" qui présentait des
œuvres en céramique et en papier découpé à la Shire Hall Gallery Stafford. La Charleston Gallery a
récemment dédié une exposition à ses céramiques.
Rob Ryan a écrit et illustré 2 livres, "This Is For You" et "Asky Full Of Kindness". Il vit et travaille à
Londres.
Rob Ryan was born in 1962 in Akrotiri, Cyprus. He studied Fine Art at Trent Polytechnic and at the
Royal College of Art, London where he specialised in Printmaking. Since 2002 he has been working
principally within the paper cutting medium. Although he views himself first and always as a fine artist
his intricate papercut work adapts itself readily to screenprinting which can be easily transferred to
ceramics, fabrics, lasercutting and other surfaces. He has collaborated with Paul Smith, Liberty of
London, Tatty Devine and Vogue along with many other established companies. His work, often
consisting of whimsical figures paired with sentimental, grave, honest and occasionally humorous
pieces of writing he readily admits are autobiographical. Exhibitions have included "The Stars Shine All
Day Too" at London's Air Gallery on Dover Street, "Your Job is to take this world apart and put it back
together again.... but even better!" - an exhibition of papercuts and ceramics at The Shire Hall Gallery
Stafford - and recently an exhibition of ceramics at The Charleston Gallery. He has written and
illustrated two books, 'This Is For You' and 'A Sky Full Of Kindness'. He lives and works in London UK.
