La Faculté des Sciences Semlalia en collaboration avec la Société Marocaine d’Herpétologie et l'UMR 5143 du CNRS
(Paris) ont le plaisir d'organiser le 1er Congrès International sur la Paléontologie des Vertébrés du Nord de l'Afrique
(NAVEP1). En plus d'offrir une plateforme de discussion entre chercheurs et étudiants, NAVEP1 a pour objectifs
d'établir un bilan des connaissances actuelles des vertébrés fossiles du Nord de l'Afrique et/ou des régions limitrophes
et de promouvoir la valorisation, la sauvegarde et la protection des fossiles comme partie indéniable du patrimoine
naturel. Ce congrès se déroulera dans le cadre de l’Année Internationale de la planète Terre de l'Organisation des
Nations Unies.
The Faculty of Sciences Semlalia, Marrakech in collaboration with the Moroccan Society of Herpetology and the UMR
5143 (CNRS-Paris) are pleased to host the 1st Congress on North African Vertebrate Palaeontology (NAVEP1). Besides
offering platform of discussion on various aspects of vertebrate palaeontology from North Africa and/or neighboring
regions, the NAVEP1 is intended to draw the current state of knowledge on palaeontological studies in these areas
and to promote the conservation and the protection of the fossils as an integral part of the natural heritage. This
international meeting is organized in the framework of the International Year of Earth Planet as proclaimed by the
United Nations Organization.

Résumé et publications/Abstract and publications
Les résumés des communications doivent être envoyés avant le 31 janvier 2009 au comité local
d'organisation du NAVEP1 exclusivement par courriel ([email protected]) et en fichier attaché, en utilisant
le format word. Les résumés doivent être rédigés en français ou en anglais avec un maximum de 250 mots, en
utilisant, dans tout le texte, la police Times New Roman 12 points et un interligne de 1,5. Le nom, l'adresse et
le courriel de l'auteur/des auteurs ainsi que le titre de la communication doivent être clairement indiqués.
Dans le cas de plusieurs auteurs, le nom de la personne présentant la communication sera indiqué en gras. Les
auteurs doivent préciser sous quel format (affiché ou oral), ils souhaitent présenter leurs communications. Au
moins un des auteurs devra s'inscrire au congrès.
Les communications orales. L'orateur aura 10 min pour développer sa présentation qui devra être en français
ou en anglais, 5 minutes supplémentaires seront réservées à la discussion. Les orateurs auront à leur
disposition un PC portable, un projecteur multimédia, un rétroprojecteur pour transparents et un projecteur
diapositives. Les communications orales doivent être en format PowerPoint et fournies sur clé USB ou disque
compact (CD).
Les communications affichées seront présentées durant toute la période du congrès, chaque orateur sera
responsable de son affiche. Elles peuvent être présentées en français ou en anglais et leurs dimensions seront
de 120x90 cm.
Publications et communications. Les auteurs des communications orales et affichées, sont vivement invités à
soumettre, pour publication, des articles portant sur la paléontologie des vertébrés du Nord de l'Afrique et/ou
des régions limitrophes et de leurs paléo-environnements. Les articles seront publiés dans un numéro spécial
de Historical Biology. Prière de consulter les instructions pour auteurs de la revue sur le lien suivant :
http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/journal.asp?issn=0891-2963&linktype=44. La date limite pour la soumission des
articles pour évaluation par le comité scientifique est le 27 mai 2009 avant 18h (dernier jour du congrès).
Abstracts must be submitted before January 31st, 2009 to the local Organizing Committee exclusively by
email ([email protected]) and in attached file, using the format Word. Abstract, in French or English,
should reflect the content of the paper or poster and summarize its main results. It must not exceed 250
words, using the police font Times New Roman 12points and in line space of 1.5 in all text. The name, mail
address and the e-mail of the author(s) as well as the title of the communication must be clearly indicated.
In the case of several authors, the name of the person presenting the communication should be indicated in
bold. The authors must indicate on the abstract whether the presentation will be oral or as a poster. At least
one of the authors must be registered in the congress.
Oral communications. Speakers will have 10 min to present their presentations, which should be in French
or English; additional 5 min will be consecrated to discussions. The speakers will have at their disposal a
portable PC, a multimedia projector, an overhead projector for transparency and slide projector. The oral
presentations must be in PowerPoint slideshow format and provided on flash disk or CD.
Poster should be exhibited during the whole period of the congress. They can be presented in French or
English with 120 x 90 cm dimensions.
Publications. A book of abstracts will be published before the meeting. After the meeting, a proceeding
volume will be published in a special issue of Historical Biology. Authors are invited to submit papers
related to Vertebrates fossils from North Africa and neighbouring area and all aspects of their
paleoenvironments.

Excursion / Field Excursions
Excursion pré- et post-congrès : Différentes excursions pour un minimum de 20 personnes chacune, sont
envisagées, notamment dans le Dévonien de Tafilalet, le Permien et le Trias du Bassin d’Argana (Haut Atlas
Occidental), le Jurassique Continental du Haut Atlas et/ou dans les phosphates du Crétacé-Paléocène du
Maroc. Les frais de participation à ces excursions seront précisés ultérieurement.
Pre- and Post-Congress Field Excursions. Thanks to the geographic position of Marrakech, we shall be able
to organise field excursions. At the present stage of the organization of this meeting, we envisage excursions
on Devonian of Tafilalet, the Permian and the Triassic of the Argana basin, the Jurassic of the High Atlas,
and/or the Cretaceous-Palaeocene phosphates of Morocco. The participation fees of this tour will be
specified later.

Monnaie et Change / Currency and exchange
La monnaie du Maroc est le Dirham divisé en 100 centimes. Il n'existe aucune restriction monétaire ; l'Euro, le
dollar américain et d'autres monnaies internationales se changent facilement dans les bureaux de change à
l'aéroport, dans les banques et dans les hôtels. Les taux de change y sont affichés quotidiennement. La
majorité des cartes de crédit (Master card, Carte VISA, American Express, Dinner's Club) sont acceptées dans
les hôtels, les restaurants, les supermarchés et dans certains autres magasins. / The Moroccan currency is the
Dirham, which divided in 100 centimes. There are no monetary restrictions, Euros, US Dollars and other hard
currencies can be readily exchanged at agencies in airports, banks and hotels. The majority of credits cards
(Master Card, Visa Card, American Express, Dinner's Club) are accepted in hotels, supermarket and some
shops.
